PERSONAL SERVICES

Body Measurements & AnalysisAges: 14 years & upFee: Y Member $25 Community $37Your body weight can be deceiving! It is more meaningful to take measurements such as circumferences and body composition. When starting a weight loss program it is very important that you remember that muscle weighs more than fat. By tracking your inches and body fat percentage you will have a much clearer view of your progress. Our new software program can track your progress over time, and give you an easy-to-read print out filled with important information that a qualified Personal Trainer will interpret with you! Remember, weight is not the clearest indicator of a healthy lifestyle! Sessions are 30 minutes in length. CAY By appointment

Physical Therapy ScreeningsIf you experience pain or suffer an injury while participating in your sport or activity, it is important to consult a physical therapist. A prompt evaluation may save you from a more serious injury. We will be offering free physical therapy screenings presented by Spaulding Outpatient Center, Cape Ann. Licensed Physical Therapists will be available to examine problems such as tendonitis, sprains, strains, aches and pains. Sessions are by appointment or on a first come, first serve basis. Please visit the welcome center or ask a fitness instructor regarding upcoming screenings.

GIVING

Did you know...?The Cape Ann YMCA is a charity. We are a non-profit organization focused on community and human services. 100% of your donation goes directly to those in need. Every dollar donated to our Y For All annual campaign is used to support local children, families and individuals through Y programs, membership and camp. Y For All is more than donors and dollars. Our annual campaign is a grassroots effort led by dozens of volunteers and businesses from our communities.

Help the Y make a difference. It’s never too late to help my community with a gift to the Y For All campaign. Swing by the front desk or visit:

All gifts benefit our endowment, a permanent fund used to support the Y. Gifts made to the endowment today will help support future generations. All those who make a gift will be invited to join the Triangle Society, our planned giving recognition society. FOR SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITYGIVING BACK AND PROVIDING SUPPORT TO OUR NEIGHBORS

Seeing Noah Mondello perched in the lifeguard stand on the Cape Ann Y pool deck, calmly scanning the pool and ensuring the safety of its swimmers, you wouldn’t guess right off the bat that he is also a top caliber athlete for the Gloucester High School cross country team. In a sport in which success relies heavily on a combination of dogged determination, the steady cool of a calculating strategist, and deep reserves for explosive strength at the end of a dynamic endurance run, Noah’s subtle composure and easy-going demeanor belie his competency and commitment to excellence in his chosen sport.

The beginning of Noah’s story is anything but typical as well. Although Noah grew up in Gloucester, his place of birth was Russia. He was adopted at 14 months of age and brought back to Gloucester where he and his younger brother have been raised ever since. The family began coming to the Y when Noah and his younger brother began taking swimming lessons. Some of those lessons were done at the very pool he now stands guard over! When Noah entered Middle School, he was approached by Cape Ann coaching legend Jim Munn and encouraged to participate in cross country. Noah accepted the challenge, and although much of his early success was based on his natural ability, he had to practice hard to learn the skills that would allow him to ascend to the upper echelon of Massachusetts high school cross country runners.

Now as a senior, one of the fruits of Noah’s success is the flood of college recruitment letters he has received (more than 40 by his own estimate) as he considers his post-graduation plans. When asked about his plans after high school, he responds with a pronounced affability, seemingly unaffected by the gravity of the decision that has created so much stress for others at his stage in life. Options mentioned by Noah include attending one of the colleges he is being recruited by, or maybe attending technical/vocational school due to his interest in automobile mechanics.

In addition to his demanding training regime as an elite runner and despite being a heavily recruited high school athlete on the verge of graduation, Noah hasn’t lost track of the things that he enjoys - things like working on cars in Dennis Martin’s auto shop, action movies, and slap-stick comedy.
