CBE Livable Building Award 2017: Delta Products Corporation, Americas Headquarters

Project Narrative: The Delta Products Corporation state-of-the-art, 178,000 square foot, LEED Platinum, Americas’ Headquarters stands as a testament to Delta’s commitment to the Americas market. Many of Delta’s own leading technologies are incorporated into the design achieving an elite level of sustainability. Through Delta’s 616kW Solar Photovoltaic (PV) power system, over 1,000 MWh of electricity is generated per year utilizing Delta’s own solar inverters that have energy conversion efficiency up to 98.5%. Additionally, Delta’s Americas HQ boasts a geothermal heating and cooling system that reduces HVAC energy consumption by 60% compared to traditional systems. The geothermal heating and cooling system uses a ground source heat pump connected to a loop field of pipes located at 15ft and 30ft depths below ground. The ground source heat pumps loops into the building’s bi-directional radiant floor and ceiling tubes embedded in the concrete slabs – in total, more than 92 miles of pipe are circulating 12,000 gallons of water. Delta’s energy-saving Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) are used throughout the facility in conjunction with Pumps, Heaters, Chillers and are able to harness regenerative energy from the elevators in conjunction with Delta’s Active Front Ends (AFE). The facility also features a 140,000-gallon Rainwater Harvesting tank for irrigation collecting water from the rooftops, while uncollected water is directed to a bioswale. The design team carefully selected the building orientation to align with true north and designed each façade to react to its orientation. The South elevation features sun shades and the East/West elevations have solid insulated materials with deep recessed windows. The building skin is designed with a high performance envelope incorporating R-30 insulation in the walls, R-45 insulation in the roof, and spectrally selective glazing. These exterior building skin systems will protect the building from heat gain and loss at the source and reduce the load on interior systems.

Additional Features include: • Delta Controls and LOYTEC Building Automation Systems (BAS) are used in the

facility • 20% of the building materials are reclaimed: including steel, aggregate in

concrete and millwork. Additionally, all wood elements are from FSC certified forests.

• The Facility is built 20% above California Earthquake Standards. • (34) Clean-Air Vehicle parking spots


• 100% Fresh Air Ventilation • Operable Skylights and Windows

PV Solar System: Through Delta’s Solar Photovoltaic (PV) power system, consisting of 2,464 Solar Panels and (28) of Delta’s high efficiency Solar Inverters – over 1,000 MWh of electricity is generated each year.

The pipes cover an area greater than 5 football playing fields. Heat is transferred to or from the ground to boost efficiency and achieve the 60% reduction in energy consumption compared to traditional HVAC systems. Active Chilled Beams: In addition to the Ground Source Heat Pump and Bi-Directional Radiant Heating Cooling System, Active Chilled Beams are installed in enclosed conference rooms and offices. The Active Chilled Beams provide rapid cooling in enclosed spaces, quickly responding to room conditions meeting the set point temperature.

Variable Frequency Drives: (18) Delta Energy-saving Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), up to 52% energy saving, are used in the following systems: Geothermal System, Heat Pumps, Chillers, Air Handling Units and Elevators.

EV Chargers: Delta’s own (18) Level 2 7kW AC Chargers and (1) 50kW dual-standard Fast DC Charger are installed and available to employees and guests.
