(Amd) 90.4 Enforcement

Administration of this code shall be in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 1 of the 2003  International Building Codeportion of the 2005 State Building Code

The State Building Inspector may grant variations or exemptionsfrom, or approve equivalent or alternative compliance with, theState Building Code where strict compliance with the StateBuilding Code would entail practical difficulty or unnecessaryhardship or is otherwise adjudged unwarranted, provided the intent of the law shall be observed and public welfare and safetybe assured

Inspection of framing and masonry construction shall be madeafter the roof, masonry, all framing, firestopping, draftstopping,and bracing are in place, and after the plumbing, mechanical andelectrical rough inspections are approved.

When alterations, additions, or repairs requiring a permit occur,or when one or more sleeping rooms are added or created in existing dwellings, the individual dwelling shall be equipped with smoke alarms located as required for new dwellings

EXCEPTIONS:

2. Installation, alteration, or repairs to plumbing, mechanical,or electrical systems are exempt from these requirements

(Amd) R314.4 Power Source

Smoke alarms shall receive their primary power from the building wiring when such wiring is served from a commercialsource, and when primary power is interrupted, shall receive power from a battery…. Smoke alarms shall be interconnected

EXCEPTIONS:2. Interconnection and hard-wiring of smoke alarms in existing,

areas shall not be required where the alterations or repairsdo not result in the removel of interior wall or ceiling finishesexposing the structure

Carbon monoxide alarms shall be installed outside of eachsleeping area in the immediate vicinity of the bedrooms andon each additional habitable level of the dwelling unit…….

EXCEPTIONS:1. Carbon monoxide alarms shall not be required in dwelling

units that do not contain a fuel-burning appliance, fireplaceor attached garage

(Amd) 300.4.1(A) Drilling and Notching ‐ Structural Members

(1)  Solid Sawn Lumber‐ Notches in solid lumber joists, rafters, andbeams shall not exceed one‐sixth of the depth of the member, shallnot be longer than one‐third of the depth of the member and shallnot be located in the middle one‐third of the span….The diameterof holes bored/cut into members shall not exceed one‐third the depth of the member. Holes shall not be closer than 2 inches to the top or bottom of the member, or another hole in the member….

(B)  Studs‐ Any stud in an exterior wall or an interior bearing partitionmay be cut or notched to a depth not exceeding 25 percent  of itswidth. Studs in non bearing partitions may be notched to a depthnot to exceed 40 percent of a single stud width…..

Exceptions:1. A stud may be bored or drilled to a diameter not exceeding 60 percent of its widthprovided that such studs located in exterior walls and interior bearing partitionsare doubled and not more than two successive doubled studs are bored
