On behalf of the Cross-Cultural Business Conference Team, we are pleased to welcome you! Many people have been involved in the organization of our Cross-Cultural Business Conference, hosted by the Study Programme “Global Sales and Marketing” at the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria, Campus Steyr. We would like to thank all conference participants for their valuable contributions.

“HR Challenges in a Global Company. Exemplified by a discussion on values”Franz Hubmer, Director of Labor Affairs for the SKF Group
Franz Hubmer is Director of Labor Affairs for the SKF Group. SKF is a Swedish bearing and seal manufacturing company, having its headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden. The company is the leading global supplier of products, solutions and services for bearings, seals, and lubrication systems and services. SKF goes back for more than 100 years, evolving to an international conglomerate with a market presence in 130 countries and an annual turnover of 8.1 billion euros. As early as the 1920's, SKF was able to establish its international market presence, which emerged to a network of more than 17,000 dealers and 94 production sites. The company currently employs approximately 44,000 people, worldwide. . Dr. Hubmer has worked for the company since 1996, starting as the HR manager for Austria. Shortly after, he worked in various international projects and had international responsibilities for the SKF Group – Industrial Division as HR Manager and Manufacturing Excellence for their Global Manufacturing Sites and similar for the Business Unit for Renewable Energy. Currently he is involved in projects concerning digitalization of the company and the future of work and its impact on the employees of SKF. In his role as Labor Director, he works with SKF’s European and World Works councils, balancing different settings and demands. .Franz Hubmer graduated from the University of Salzburg, majoring in Political Science, Communication, and Psychology. He then carried on, completing his Doctorate in Organizational Development in a Global World.

“Sales in Transformation. An OEM's strategy in a changing sales world” Gerd Liebig, Chief Executive Officer at Sumitomo (SHI) Demag
Since 2017, Gerd Liebig has been Chief Executive Officer of Sumitomo (SHI) Demag. The company is one of the world's largest manufacturers of injection molding machines. Being a subsidiary of the Japanese company Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Sumitomo (SHI) Demag focuses on the production and marketing activities of precision machinery. The Japanese-German company has a global development and production network consisting of four plants in Japan, Germany and China with more than 3,000 employees. The headquarters is based in the German city of Schwaig. Gerd Liebig has worked in strategic sales and marketing functions in the injection molding machine industry for over 25 years. Liebig joined Sumitomo (SHI) Demag already in 2015 as Chief Sales Officer. In his position as CSO, Liebig developed and strengthened the sales, service, and marketing of the company. From 2015 – 2017, Sumitomo (SHI) Demag established new sales and service locations in Hungary, Austria and Spain, and thereby strengthened the company’s advisory skills as well as its problem-solving competence and internationalized customer service. International market coverage with good proximity to the customers is the focus of Gerd Liebig’s strategy. Liebig took over the position as CEO in 2017. During his period as managing director, turnover grew from 234 Mio. EUR in 2016 to 295 Mio. EUR in 2019. This resulted in investments in the expansion of production facilities, optimization and automation to enhance the capacity. Before Gerd Liebig joined Sumitomo (SHI) Demag, he worked for ENGEL and Sumitomo (SHI) Demag’s predecessor company, Demag Plastics. Liebig completed his studies in Economics and Social Sciences at the Friedrich Alexander University in Nürnberg, Germany.
