INSTALLATION Dimensions of the Filling Machine Weight 31kg, height 760mm, width 270mm, and depth 255mm. It is recommended that lifting and positioning of this machine is a two person operation. Positioning the Filling Machine The Filling Machine must be operated on a firm, stable and level surface. The adjustable feet fitted to the Filling Machine should be used to ensure that the machine is level before use. The Pneumatic Circuit The pneumatic intake coupling is found on the lower left side of the Filling Machine. Air supply pressure to the Filling Machine should be within the range of 7-10 BAR it is suggested that the pneumatic circuit, which supplies the Filling Machine, contains a valve that can be used to isolate the Filling Machine during periods of non-operation. Draining and inspection of the pneumatic circuit should be undertaken at regular intervals. Periodic lubrication of the pneumatic piston will ensure continual smooth operation as laid out in the Trouble Shooting Guide. The correct operational pressure for the Filling Machine is 6.5-7.5 BAR at the Pressure Gauge on the left side of the Filling Machine. In order to adjust the Filling Machine operating pressure use the Pressure Control Valve by pulling the knob outwards and turning it clockwise to increase the operating pressure or anti-clockwise to decrease the operating pressure. Cleaning Ensure that the Filling Machine is kept clean, the Piston and Filling Cup should be washed with a suitable solvent following each filling operation. NB. Do not soak the components in solvent for extended periods, e.g. overnight. Inspection and Maintenance Regular inspection of the condition of the components listed below will ensure effective operation of the filling equipment.

Air feed lines The Piston The Filling Cup orifice

The Filling Cup orifice should be checked to ensure that it is clean and contains no obstructions before each filling operation.

HEALTH AND SAFETY NOTICES

• VERY IMPORTANT –

Do not charge the CUSTOM CAN more than once.

• Ensure maximum air pressure is not exceeded, 10 BAR. • Avoid contact with moving parts as risk of injury/entrapment. • Point can/cup assembly away from the body when attaching or detaching. • Do not insert any objects into or damage the aerosol valve in any way. • Keep labels legible. • Wear eye protection and other personal protective equipment where

appropriate. NOTE

All moving parts are enclosed in order to protect the operator. Exposure of operatives to sharp edges has been avoided by careful design and

manufacture. Any abnormal interruption in the air supply to the Filling Machine will cause the

machine to shut down automatically. Should any problem occur during the filling process slowly opening the door will

stop the filling operation and the Filling Platform will withdraw to its starting position.

Door must be closed or operation is terminated.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR FILLING A CUSTOM CAN

1. Gently fully insert the clean Filling Cup onto into the valve of a Custom Can. SAFETY NOTICE POINT THE FILLING CUP/AEROSOL ASSEMBLY AWAY FROM THE BODY DURING USE. U-POL RECOMMENDS THAT OPERATIVES WEAR EYE PROTECTION DURING THIS OPERATION.

2. Place this assembly onto a firm and even surface, and pour 100ml of mixed paint into the attached Filling Cup.

3. Place the Custom Can and attached filled cup onto the Filling Platform, ensuring unit is pushed firmly home into the clip.

4. Locate the Piston and tip in position, a click will occur once the Piston is correctly in place.

5. Check that the Piston, Filling Cup and Custom Can are aligned vertically. 6. Close the Front Door and check that the Filling Machine has reached minimum filling pressure (6.5 BAR) by looking at the Pressure Gauge.

7. Press the operation button - The Filling Machine lifts the Custom Can assembly, thus charging the aerosol. Once the filling operation is complete the Filling Machine cuts off pressure automatically and the Filling Platform descends to its starting position.

SAFETY NOTICE DO NOT CHARGE THE CUSTOM CAN MORE THAN ONCE.

8. Open the Front Door, then remove the Custom Can and attached Filling Cup (now empty).

10. Fit the spray button supplied with the custom can. 11. Invert the Custom Can and spray out excess paint in order to evacuate the dip tube. 12. Shake the Custom Can for 1 minute before use. 13. Remove the Piston/tip assembly from the filling machine. 14. Clean the Piston and cup in a suitable solvent. NB. Do not soak the components in solvent for extended periods, e.g. overnight. 15. USER INSTRUCTIONS / TROUBLE-SHOOTING GUIDE

a) Aerosol will not fill: - Check air pressure, pressure required 6.5 to 7.5 BAR, max drop off 1 bar during filling. - Does machine need lubricating, disconnect air supply, squirt oil into air fitment, run machine for 5 cycles. - Check paint is not too thick. - Check cup orifice is not damaged or blocked. b) Paint comes past the piston or the piston jams in the cup on the upward/downward cycle. - Check your tip for damage, your tip should look like the one on the left, if your tip looks like the one on the right, replace the tip!

- Please note, use virgin cans only, even a single shot of air will partially fill the custom can, if charged again excessive pressures could lead to poor spray performance and ultimately in failure of the can structure. c) When the filling cycle is finished , excessive paint residue remains in the cup: - Check height setting of cut out switch trigger and the upright bolt on the middle cross-member. The height should be approximately 75mm. d) Cycle will not complete, the machine stops at to p of cycle: - Check height setting of cut out switch trigger and the upright bolt at rear of middle cross-member. The height should be approximately 75mm. - Do not complete more than 5 filling cycles without cleaning the piston and cup, this may lead to jamming of the machine, this will show itself as a popping/banging at the end of the cycle.

CUSTOM CAN CUP REFURBISHMENT Use the Custom Can Refurbishment Accessory Kit (CCRFBKA ) to transform worn cups (as shown below) into brand new units.

1. Remove and discard all 8 used studs with the tool provided. 2. Remove base and ring and replace with new base and ring supplied in the accessory kit. 3. Re-tighten firmly with the 8 new screws provided.

NOTE: The spacer plate should be inserted under the aerosol if the clearance gaps allows for this. This will ensure optimal performance of filling system for variable height of aerosol cans.

MACHINE ADJUSTMENT FOR NEW STYLE CUP

(only to be used with plastic piston tip marked “M”)

Adjust height of Filling Cup Positioning Bar by loosening the 30 mm lock nut, then, turn the larger of the two nuts ante clockwise until there is sufficient gap to insert the gauge (supplied) between the bar and the base plate. Finally re-adjust the lock nuts to secure. All adjustments should be possible without the need for spanners; however the nuts may be seized because of paint on threads, cleaning the paint off should cure this problem. 30mm nuts Hold tube and turn Nuts Anti Clockwise
