Grand Council was wonderful! I enjoyed seeing all the Unit performances from a different view and Sphinx Court made me proud. Thank you to Gina Baird for her escort and to the Director Staff for a fun hospitality room and night out. Everyone had a great time. Lady Debbie Jones is not a “mushroom” any more and she looked lovely in her new class outfits.

I look forward to watching her class grow. Congratulations to our new Grand Council appointments for 2016-2017. The new Honorary Aides are: Ladies Linda Curry, PHP; Linda DuBois, PHP; Lou Ann Speas; Dorothy Cameron; Pam Wade; Sally Wulff; and Marsha Young. I was so happy to see Lady Pam and Lady Marsha at their first Grand Council. We always have a lot of fun at Grand Council and the line officers get to know their Classmates from all over the country. At the September 26th Court meeting I would like all the line officers to wear their “fatigue” outfits and I would like all the Past High Priestesses to wear something from their Class. It’s fun to see all the different Classes and I hope everyone will enjoy the change. Summer is here and soon we will be planning our trip in September to Medford Oregon for the Western Area Or-ganized Unit Meet. This is the last one before we host the event next year. I hope many of you will be able to attend and get some tips on how to throw a good one. Watch your email for the details as we have not seen the packets yet. I hope everyone has a great summer. While we are away, please remember to send Lady Janet Massey some names of ladies you would like to join us. Our first Membership Tea is on October 2nd. We will be inviting the potential candidates to the “Sunset by the Sea” Painting Party on September 24th, so get those names in to us soon. See you in September when all the fun starts up again!

Princess As always, Grand Council was exhilarating, and it is so exciting to be Princess. So many things of-fered to do, and so little time. We all managed to do everything, and I came home with so many ideas. I hope I can remember the ones I did not get written down. Airfare to Medford will have to be purchased before our next Court meeting. Here is the information I

have at this time: Southwest does NOT fly to Medford; I found NO non-stop flights; United and Alaska had 1 stop at either Salt Lake, Seattle, or San Francisco; Prices ranged from $203.00 to $149.00 and higher. I will send out more information in the mail and make phone calls for those who do not have email.

HAPPY SUMMER From the Sun Unit

Associate Princess At the April Court Meeting, I encouraged everyone to participate in the AmazonSmile program. AmazonSmile is a website operated by Amazon that lets you shop the same selection of products, same prices, and same shopping features as on Amazon.com. The difference is that when you shop on AmazonSmile (smile.amazon.com), the AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of the

purchase price to the eligible charitable organization of your choice, which of course is Shriners Hospitals for Chil-dren.

It’s easy to use. Just go to http://smile.amazon.com, and choose Shriners Hospitals as your charity. Then when you shop, go to this website – it will say “Supporting Shriners Hospitals for Children” on the top left under the “Search” bar. Encourage your family, relatives, neighbors, friends – anybody you know – to shop Ama-zonSmile to support the Shriners Hospitals. They will be helping you to support the hospitals without any extra effort (or contribution)! The more shoppers we get on this program, the more money we get for the hospitals.

I hope everyone has a fun and safe summer. I am looking forward to seeing everybody at the next Court Meeting on Monday, Sept. 26th. Remember to bring a friend who hasn’t been to Court recently. It’s always fun to see old friends, or meet new ones!

Rainbow Smiles and Yellow Roses, Lady Mary Lou Burger

First Ceremonial Lady Hello wonderful ladies, Well we are all back from Grand Council and this 1st Ceremonial Lady keeps learning more and more every time I go. I met several of the new ladies who were initiated at the Ceremonial at Grand Council.

It was really fantastic to see. The units performed outstandingly and people stayed to watch the Indian dance from the Director Staff.

The 2nd CL and I were up to a bit of mischief and everywhere we went we were known as #1 and #2 from Sphinx Court. They talked about Membership and we have made it almost level as we initiated a lot of ladies but we lost too many who have sadly departed from us. So over the summer several of us will be working on making the first Membership Social in October a strong and successful one.

Please remember, if you need anything I’m just a phone call or email away. Owl be seeing you, Lady Janet Massey

Second Ceremonial Lady Hello Ladies! I can’t tell you how honored I am to be your 2nd Ceremonial Lady. Grand Council was a great time. I am no longer your Mushroom; my class name is Women of the West! Our Motto: Women of the West stay strong together so we may help others! I met 15 terrific ladies from all over and we

are going to have a lot of fun growing and learning together. Over the next month you will be getting an email from me with the updated Permanent Dinner List. Please

look it over and let me know if you need to be added or deleted. You may call, text, or email me. I want to have the new list updated when we come back in September.

I hope you all have a great summer. If you are traveling be safe. Happy Trails to You, Raggedy Ann and Andy Hugs and Angel kisses from your Woman of the West!

Clowns The Clowns have been busy as usual and on

April 30 painted faces on children and adults at the Teachers Appreciation Day at Steele Indian Park. Four Clowns attended and earned $100 for their efforts.

Over the summer we will have two Clown Fun Days the first on June 18 at Pam Wade's and the second at Trish Whalen's community building. We will work on make-up, balloon twisting lessons and face painting to mention just a few of the activities.

We have several events coming up over the summer which put us in view of the public to represent LOS to people who may not have heard of us. They might not know what we do for the Shriner's Hospitals and the children.

Our Western Meet gift final design was approved and we can hardly wait for 2017 when we are the hosts for this event.

We are starting our own Facebook page to share pictures of the fun things we do.

We had several Clowns in attendance for the Grand Council session; however, we did not perform.

Remember, if you clutter up your mind with little things, will there be any room for the big things? Enjoy the summer!

Thanks for all you do, Lady Kay Akers, Vice President

Ceremonial Pageantry Everybody did such a great job on our dance at

Grand Council. I was so proud of all of you! Our next meeting will be on Friday, November

18th. We will be setting up for Ceremonial that day also.

Have a safe and healthy summer. And while you are relaxing, put on your thinking cap and see if you can come up with some ideas for changing our dance.

Lady Jane Sheldon, President

Unit and Club Happenings Director Staff

The Director Staff was very pleased to perform at Grand Council. The dance was well received by the audience and several of us received favorable com-ments on it. It was fun and we did very well. Thanks to the Princesses who became part of the dance.

Just a reminder that Director Staff will be meeting the first WEDNESDAY of each month this next year. So our meeting will be September 7, 2016, at 7o'clock. We will eat at the Shrine around 5:30, no host dinner, then into the meeting at 7. So put this on your calendars now, so you have it for September. Sometime this summer we will be repairing and re-placing the feathers on the Chief ‘s headdress, the tie-on tail feathers and arm feathers. You will be notified of the date, place and time.

We hope everyone has a nice, cool, restful sum-mer. Be safe in your travels, and we will see you in the fall.

Sphinx Patrol The Patrol did a good performance with nine

members and 2 banner carriers at Grand Council and had a great time in Costa Mesa.

We wish everyone a good and restful summer, stay cool and healthy!

We will meet again on Sept 6th and I look forward to seeing you all back at the Shrine.

Lady Renate Sweat, Captain

PHP Club The Past High Priestesses are working on their

project, "Filling a Purse” for homeless women. You don’t have to be a Past High to participate in this pro-ject. We would love to have help with this project. Thank you to the ladies who have given us purses and items to help fill the purse.

The next meeting of the PHP is September 21, 2016 and the November meeting has been changed to the 16th.

We hope everyone has a fun and safe summer Lady Mary Hammer, PHP, President

Sun Unit First off, the Sun Unit would like to wish you a

safe, busy, and happy summer – and let’s hope that it’s even a little bit cooler this summer!

Our next meeting is scheduled for Friday, Sep-tember 9, 2016, at 11:30 AM. We will be meeting at the 5 and Diner at 11340 W. Bell Road. We have their private area reserved for us so it should work really well! We’ll have our meeting first and then we’ll enjoy a nice lunch. We encourage any and all of you to come visit us and join if you can. We only meet 4 times a year so it’s not a huge time commitment – and if you live not too far from there, it would really be a nice group for you to join. Hope to see you there!

Lady Linda DuBois, PHP, President

Greeters Unit The next meeting of the Greeters Unit will be on

October 1, 2016 at 11:00 at 808 E Missouri; 3rd floor of the Madison Gardens Senior Community with lunch after at a local restaurant. Since we have a lot to dis-cuss, I have moved the meeting earlier so we don't go to lunch late. We will also be discussing WAOUM 2017 and our upcoming performances, so come pre-pared with your suggestions.

We have a lot on our plates with our unit being the travel unit for the court this year. I need to know how many are planning on attending Grand Council next May in Ohio. We may need to have some spe-cial meetings to work on our performances and fund-raisers. We have the permission of the court for the sale of the Village Inn pies and the Italian dinner. We need committees for both of these.

For all who have ordered name badges, we are looking at the orders and organizing the order process and design.

Our Un-Birthday party will be held July 23rd. Place to be determined, notification will be sent as soon as this is decided. If anyone has any sugges-tions, feel free to send them to me.

Have a great summer, and Congratulations to our newest line officer, Debbie Jones a “Woman of the West”.

We will be making our last presentation to en-courage attendance in 2017. After we find out who will be going, we will be contacting everyone going and assign parts and costumes for our presentation.
