With a small swell running at about 2ft, the view from the
shark tower was not real inviting. The reports coming in from
the surrounding beaches were not building any excitement in
the small crowd. So after much deliberation it was decided
that with the incoming tide the pines would be the venue for
the day.
The clouds loomed ominously on set up, but hey this is club
day and we always get to finish before the weather beats us.
The incoming tide unfortunately didn’t assist the bank, and
nothing much changed in the wave quality with it going from
bad to painful, it was definitely break your board stuff in the
small close outs.
With the second round underway it was time to see how many
holes we had in the tent, the downpour saturated everyone
and everything in its path, so the last couple of rounds were
called off due to a chronic lack of interest.
Now you cant dampen our spirit with a little rain, everything
was packed up quickly, and a B Line made for some cover at
Avoca Tennis courts, Our sumptuous feast was the highlight
of the day thanks to our very own master chef, Phil Morgan.
This months Club Day is at Lakes beach, see you all there this
Sunday the 1st of June, Lakes Beach Surf Club @ 7.00am
Cheers Ed
Its been a whilesince the April comp, but unfortunately itwas one to forget.
The 2014 Magoo charity classicwas a huge success, with over120 competitors from up anddown the coast, convergingon Soldiers Beach. The forecast was not looking too kind on the Friday with a
waning 1-2ft swell predicted for the Saturday, oh no we gasped!
Friday night was spent thinking of alternatives over a few cold
ones with the contest director Hayzy in case we were faced with
the unthinkable! What were we thinking the Magoo never
disappoints and Soldiers had every inch of the 2ft swell with
light offshore winds and a nice right hand bank that had the
loggers hanging 5 and 10 for an absolute eternity! Setup was a
breeze thanks to all the CCMB members, and the lions club were
parked right next to us tempting all and sundry with the smell of
bacon and eggs. Combine this with cloudless sky's and a balmy
25 degree day, it was a great day to be on the beach.
The comp started bang on 7.00am, which was awesome, as it was
going to be a busy day right up to 4.00pm.
With the mellow tunes playing in the background all the surfers
were in the zone enjoying the spectacle unfold in front of them,
both in the water and on the land, with Booths Hyundai demo
cars, the Hogs Breath Hog parading around the beach, and
Beachin Boardland demo boards.
The tally tent was like a well-oiled machine with the dulcet tones
of Al on the mic, backed up by Leanne and Steve furiously
adding up the numbers as they came in. A new addition to the
weekend thanks to Macintype Design was live results, available
instantly on your phone, ipad, or computer if you were sitting at
home. This worked amazingly, and as the judging tent was half a
kilometer away from the tally tent, if there was a question they
just went to the website. Amazing work Steve!!
Sunday was a carbon copy of Saturday although a little smaller,
and set the stage for some great surfing in the Finals.
There were some real standouts, and it was unreal to see Beau
Nixon returning home to the coast and competing in no less
than 4 finals winning the SUP event, combine this with
outstanding performances from Ray Smith, Christian Pimm,
Shane Baker, Hayden Emery, and Kai Ellice Flint, the beach was
buzzing. But the biggest cheers were saved for young 85 year old
Magoo competing in the over 60s, who paddled out and snared
some great rides and he got chaired up the beach on his board by
his fellow competitors.

The event this year raised over 30,000 INCREDIBLE!!This is only possible because of the competitors, and our
amazing sponsors so a huge thank you to them and make
sure you check out the website! And Support our sponsors
the way they have supported the event.
A weekend such as the Magoo only comes together with a lot
of hard work from the CCMB members, and your dedication
and enthusiasm in getting involved makes it all happen.
There are so many people to mention, so rather than miss
anyone, thank you to the sponsorship people and organising
committee, talliers, contest director, judges runners, packers,
setup people and all the rest of the crew who worked tirelessly
behind the scenes.
The Final results are on the website, with a great gallery of
photos all posted as the comp was running.
