Assignment II-Observing On The Go-

Submitted byDeborah Sibble

A Bit About My Submission…

I was able to devote a very limited amount of time to this assignment, but I tried to take in as much as possible in between obligations as I went about my busy week. I took quick photos of stores and businesses and tried to record quick observations, impressions, and any ideas I had for new opportunities that arose in my mind. It may not show, but I did have fun! Thanks for taking the time to look.Deborah

Charlotte Douglas AirportMain Atrium

Observations, Impressions and Insights• A relaxing, garden inspired shopping

and eating area amidst the chaos and stress of air travel.

• Despite a large volume of travelers, this shopping area felt spacious due to use of high, loft inspired ceiling treatment and a wall of floor to ceiling windows.

• Light, airy and fresh with lots of white and earth toned accents.

• The tree lined “street” design gave the feeling of a calm stroll in the park.

• Hip atmosphere combined with rows of country style rockers which invite harried travelers to sit and rest for a spell

• Accommodating, cheerful, staff readily available to assist and make you feel welcome

New Opportunities• Do this in more airports and other

hectic places. It makes people feel more comfortable, relaxed and happier!

military personnel as well as other customers’ sense of patriotism

Observations, Impressions and Insights• Thoroughly inspiring, uplifting, cozy

store in Franklin, TN that was pure eye candy. This store was seeping creativity from every nook and cranny! Sorry I couldn’t take lots of photos.

• Gave me lots of ideas around cause-driven retail as opposed to strictly for profit selling, and also for creative display.

• Lots of absolutely beautiful, one of a kind, hand made items sold to benefit the people who make them.

• 10% of profits go to partner charities. This made me likely to buy here as opposed to other stores.

• I could spend the day here and never get bored!

New Opportunities• Create more stores like this that are

visually interesting, inspiring and a joy to visit in order to entice people to shop in-person instead of online.

KANGAROO EXPRESSGas Station and Mart

Observations, Impressions and Insights• I really enjoyed my visit here as an

observer. Went for gas and noticed lots of things I’ve missed in the past.

• The color scheme reminds me of McDonalds, which could be bad but it’s not. You can’t help but notice.

• Friendly, attentive service and a bright, happy interior

• Loved the used of road map wall paper and the red, metal grid dropped ceiling.

• Well organized, neat and clean• I’ll remember this place for it’s

appeal and cheap gas!• I liked that they have a shopper

card which enables special deals and money back to repeat customers.

New Opportunities• Boring old gas stations can take a

lesson from this company about making gas stops a pleasure.
