One child, age five and under, rides free when accompanied by a fare paying adult passenger. Additional children receive Discount fare rate. Does not include LINK Express or Local Commuter routes. Exact fare required; drivers cannot make change. Regular and discounted fares apply for Sunday Special service. Discounted fare available to those 6 to 17, seniors age 60 and over, persons with disabilities and those with Medicare cards. A driver’s license or non-driver’s identification card issued by the Vermont DMV may be required to prove eligibility of age.

Google TransitNeed help planning your trip? Try Google Transit. Google's trip planner can provide directions between any two points on our system - including bus times, stop locations and any necessary transfers. Give it a try by going to google.com/transit. Special NeedsBoarding the BusAll CCTA buses are equipped with wheelchair lifts/ramps and two spaces to accommodate wheelchairs. Driver will operate the lift/ramp and secure you and your wheelchair in the tie-down area. Many buses can also be lowered to make it easier to enter and exit. Paratransit Service Curb-to-curb lift-equipped vans are available for those who cannot use the regular bus service. For information and to apply for eligibility, please call 864-CCTA (2282).

Hearing and Sight Services Passengers can contact CCTA through the Vermont Relay System by calling 800-253-0191. Bus Map & Guides in large print and braille are available upon request. Please call 864-CCTA (2282).

Programs Provide-A-Ride CCTA’s Provide-A-Ride program provides one free bus ride to social service and non-profit organizations for every CCTA adult monthly pass sold in Chittenden County in a month. CCTA donates nearly 200 free bus rides each month to community organizations throughout the seven municipalities it serves. Unlimited Access With a valid ID, UVM, Champlain College, and St. Michael’s students, faculty and staff ride CCTA buses for free. Middlebury College faculty and staff also ride CCTA buses for free with a valid ID. Visit cctaride.org for complete program information for each school.

CCTA School TrippersCCTA provides school tripper service that connects to the following schools: Champlain, The Integrated Arts Academy at H.O. Wheeler, Flynn, C.P. Smith, Hunt, Edmunds, The Sustainability Academy at Barnes, and Burlington High School. This service is open to the general public. Fare and schedule information is available at the Cherry Street Station, CCTA’s administrative offices and cctaride.org. NEW in the 2013-2014 school year, School Trippers service will be altered on Wednesday afternoons. Please see cctaride.org for specific details.

Riding Is Easy!Plan to get to the bus stop five minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive. Due to fluctuations in traffic, please keep in mind that the bus may arrive a few minutes past its scheduled arrival.

Please have your fare ready. All CCTA buses have electronic fare boxes that accept coins (including the dollar coin) and dollar bills. Neither the CCTA driver nor the fare box can make change. You may also use single ride passes or a bus pass.

If you need to take more than one bus to get where you want to go, ALWAYS tell the driver you will need a transfer to your next bus when you board the first bus. (See Transfers section for more information.) Transfer centers are at the Cherry Street Station in Burlington, the Amtrak Station in Essex Junction, Champlain Mill in Winooski, and the University Mall in South Burlington. Please keep in mind that you cannot transfer back to your original route.

HolidaysThere is no bus service and the CCTA office and kiosk are closed on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Easter (no late morning and afternoon Sunday Service; no Sunday Williston, South Burlington Circulator), Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. CCTA operates a shortened schedule on Christmas Eve, please contact us at 864-2282 for more information.

Locations: Buses arrive atlisted locations at the designated times. You must be at a posted CCTA bus stop to board the bus. Ring the bell or pull the cord to exit the bus.

Transfer Icon: You can transfer toanother CCTA bus route at this location.

TransfersTransfers are issued for free and are to be used to complete a one-way trip (please keep in mind, you cannot transfer back to your original route). Transfers are not transferable between riders.

Transfers are valid for one hour after issuance. Always tell the driver you will need a transfer as you board the first bus. Driver will issue a transfer ticket as you exit the bus. Please note that monthly pass holders do not need a transfer, simply swipe your pass on the next bus.

CCTA offers transfer assistance only at designated transfer locations (Cherry Street Station, Amtrak, Champlain Mill, and the University Mall). Buses can be held for transfers up to three minutes and will depart once connecting passengers are on board, but no later than five minutes past their scheduled departure. Transfers at other locations cannot be coordinated by CCTA and are at a rider’s own risk. CCTA cannot hold buses operating on 15 minute service for transfers (Williston Rd., Essex Junction, Pine Street and City Loop at particular times) nor can we hold buses that are specifically indicated as not making transfers in the Bus Map & Guide.

Transfers to the LINK Express from any CCTA local route can be made by asking for a transfer and then paying any applicable additional fare to ensure you are paying the full LINK Express fare. Transfers from the LINK to a CCTA local route are free.

Put Your Bike on the BusAll CCTA buses are equipped with easy to use bike racks. Each bike is held securely by a spring-loaded clamp. The bikes don’t touch the bus or other bikes in the rack. There is no extra charge for using the bike racks. You must load and unload your own bike.

CCTA bike racks hold a maximum of two bikes, including children’s bikes. Bike racks are available on a first come, first served basis.

Ten bike lockers are available at Union Station in Burlington, courtesy of CCTA. These lockers are managed by Local Motion. Please call 652-BIKE for rates. Please do not lock bikes at the Cherry Street terminal.

Folding bikes are allowed inside the bus provided they can be kept out of the aisle or under the seat. Control of the folding bike must be maintained at all times. Drivers may limit the number of folding bikes allowed on board depending on bus capacity.

Lost and FoundItems lost on the bus may be picked up the next day after 10:00 a.m. at the CCTA Administrative Offices located at 15 Industrial Parkway in Burlington. Call 864-CCTA (2282) to be sure your item(s) have been found — items are kept for 30 days. CCTA is not responsible for items left on buses.

The following rules of conduct will be enforced to ensure that all CCTA passengers have a pleasant ride while using our services.

1. For your safety and good health, smoking is prohibited on all CCTA buses. Drivers shall inform passengers in a courteous, but firm manner that smoking is prohibited on the bus.

2. Federal regulations prohibit the operation of any bus with passengers standing ahead of the white line.

3. Passengers are prohibited from disturbing other passengers and the Driver. Drivers should courteously request that the offending action cease. Examples of such disturbances include, but are not limited to: excessive noise (including cell phone use), excessive odor, throwing objects, physical violence, offensive behavior and speech, public intoxication, and harassing behavior.

4. Articles which, because of their size or the nature of their contents, may be dangerous to passengers shall not be allowed on the bus. Articles prohibited on all CCTA buses include but are not limited to:

» car batteries

» gasoline, kerosene or any other flammable liquid

» weapons, including but not limited to guns or knives

» illegal drugs

» open containers of alcohol

» animals other than service animals for passengers with disabilities, except those animals that can safely be carried in a closed and secured bag or carrier

» any article that cannot safely be held by a passenger or stored underneath a seat that could have potential to hurt another passenger if it were to collide with that passenger during an unscheduled stop

5. Passengers are prohibited from soliciting the sale of goods or services on all CCTA buses.

6. For your safety, passengers are prohibited from throwing objects from the bus, or sticking anything, including body limbs, out of the bus window.

7. It is a serious health risk to all passengers to allow patrons whose bodily fluids are exposed to ride the bus. Passengers who are experiencing this condition will be removed from the bus or denied access to the bus. This includes, but is not limited to, bodily eliminations, spitting and blood.

Code of Conduct

8. Passengers are required to pay the proper fare for all CCTA transportation.

9. Passengers may not place advertisements on the inside or outside of buses, nor may they remove or deface those placed on the buses by authorized representatives of the company.

10. Passengers are prohibited from eating on the bus. Only beverages with a lid or cap are permitted.

11. Passengers are prohibited from playing musical devices on all CCTA buses, unless headsets with reasonable level of volume are being used.

12. Passengers are prohibited from performing any personal hygiene task while riding the bus (i.e. clipping fingernails, toenails, putting on perfume, etc.).

These Rules of Conduct are in place to ensure that all passengers enjoy their time spent on CCTA public transportation.

Thank you for your cooperation and for using CCTA! Be Safe! Please be sure to give yourself adequate time to get to the stop before the bus is scheduled to arrive. Passengers should not cross the street unsafely or run out in front of a bus preparing to depart. The bus may not be able to stop for passengers who are not at the stop at the scheduled departure time.

HOW TO RIDE...CHECK DESTINATION SIGN: Before getting on any bus, always look at the destination sign on the front of the bus. The sign tells you the route name and number.

INSERT FARE:As you get on the bus, drop your money in the farebox next to the driver. You are required to pay when you board. You can use dollar bills or coins, but neither the farebox nor the drivers can make change.

REQUEST A TRANSFER: T If you need to take more than one bus to get where you’re going, ALWAYS ask the driver for a transfer to the next bus. You must do this as you board the first bus. This way, you’ll continue your trip without having to swipe your card again – and it keeps an accurate account of total bus trips, keeping everyone’s costs down.

REQUEST YOUR STOP: When you are ready to get off the bus, push the vertical strip or pull the horizontal cord on the side of the bus to signal the driver about a block before your desired stop. For your safety, wait for the bus to come to a complete stop before standing to exit the front doors.

SWIPE YOUR PASS:Swipe any valid pass through the farebox and wait for authorization of your pass from the driver. Passes can be purchased at any of our ticket outlets.

Advanced Reservation Required

The Tilley Drive Shuttle offers a FREE connection between the University Mall and Tilley Drive. The service is operated by the Special Services Transportation Agency (SSTA). Passengers can access the Tilley Drive Shuttle by making a reservation with SSTA 24 hours in advance and boarding the shuttle at the University Mall. The Tilley Drive Shuttle follows the same holiday schedule as CCTA routes. Please see page 4 for the holidays when service does not operate. The Tilley Drive Shuttle is free, but regular fares apply on the Williston and South Burlington Circulator routes in order to travel to and from the University Mall.
