    EU energy efficiency policies cover all energy consuming sectors. This session focusesspecifically on buildings where 40% of EU's final energy is consumed and where 36% of

    CO2 emissions are induced. This makes the building sector the EU's single largest energy

    consuming and climate change inducing sector. It contains large potential for cost-effectiveenergy savings, cheap greenhouse gas emission reductions and job creation. To increase the

    use of this potential the Commission proposed a recast of Energy Performance of BuildingsDirective (EPBD) (2002/91/EC).

    Objectives

    Present the proposal for EPBD recast*

    Discuss how to speed up its adoption and implementation

    *Demonstrate the role of buildings for EU economic recovery and discuss the financing

    possibilities*

    Present the new Build-up Initiative of the European Commission on energy efficiency of

    buildings
