Cefn Bryntalch Hall dates to 1869, was designed by GF Bodley and is reputed to have played a pivotal role in the Neo Georgian movement. Built for Richard Edward Jones who made his fortune in the flannel trade, the property was later the home of famous composer Peter Warlock who wrote much of his music in the amphitheatre within the grounds. The property occupies an extremely private location yet is within easy access of the A483 and Montgomery with its Michelin Star restaurant.

Beyond the sweeping driveway and striking elevations of the main house is a stunning courtyard with clematis lined pathways and lawns, surrounded by an annexe, a groom’s cottage and a range of beautiful barns currently home to a cinema room, games room and studio above. The property is surrounded by approximately 18 acres of grounds including formal gardens, Bronze Age Motte and Bailey, grazing and woodland.overview

This handsome property, which was once

home to British composer Peter Warlock, was

one of the first designs of the Georgian Revival

movement that began around 1869, and as

such is credited with helping launch an interest

in 18th Century design in the late Victorian

period. The designs of both the house and hugely

impressive gardens have been attributed to

GF Bodley, one of the most prolific and

important church architects of the late

19th Century.

One of the initial attractions for the current owners, Rick and Angela Smith was the fact that it was so rare to find a

small country estate complete with the main house, buildings and

land intact and being sold as a whole. This of course is the same

case today and is now, arguably, even more rare an opportunity.

Cefn Bryntalch Hall has an elegant interior that is awash with beautiful period features, one of the most striking of which is the broad main

staircase that is a stunning focal point of the main reception hall. It sweeps up and

splits to form galleried landings on both the right and left hand sides, above which is

a huge Venetian window.

“The house was in definite need of some TLC when we bought it,” says Rick, “and so we have carried out a lot of

renovation work. We did things such as put in new bathrooms and a new kitchen, but we have gone with the house and done everything

very sympathetically.” “We’ve also converted one of the barns into a cinema and games room with a studio above,” says Angela, “we’ve

fully renovated the Grooms Lodge and we’re in the process of finishing off the four bedroom annexe. We actually held our daughter’s

wedding here not long ago and we were able to accommodate fifty of the guests.”
