APD is a leading online supplier of wall and ceiling access panels. By using innovative design methods and processes, we provide a full range of access panels for internal and external uses. Available in standard sizes or custom made to suit individual requirements.

Fire Rated, Acoustic, Airtight and Loft Panels are also available, together with SRH Roof Hatches and Zip Retractable Ladders.

APD access panels are designed to fit into any type of ceiling/wall system, allowing easy access into the ceiling void/wall cavity where services, controls, need to be quickly accessed for maintenance or emergency measures.

Three main options are available as standard in both non-fire rated and fire rated:

• APD.MD.PF – Combines a flush metal door with a 25mm wide picture frame.

• APD.MD.BF – Combines a flush metal door with a concealed beaded frame.

• APD.PB.BF – Combines a plasterboard-clad door with a concealed beaded frame for use within plasterboard wall and ceiling systems.

The access panel frame surround enables the panel to be inserted directly into a clear structural opening and screw-fixed into position through the side of the panel frame.

Manufactured from 1.2mm and 1mm Zintec steel, with a polyester powder coating of matt white RAL 9010 20% gloss (other colours available upon request). Each panel type has a removable door and is secured using a budget lock as standard. Alternative locking options are available upon request (see locking options).

We also offer an economy range of access panels (see pages 10 & 11).

HOW TO ORDER1) Establish the required frame size.

2) Specify code type eg. APD.MD.PF., indicating hinged side (if not square) and quantity.

3) Indicate locking option.

4) If required panel is to be fire rated specify code with additional FR60 eg. APD.MD.PF/FR60.

5) Specify alternative operation if required. Above applies to standard range only, for economy version, see appropriate details.

FireThe APD.MD.PF/FR60/120 has been successfully tested to give up to 1 Hour Integrity in a ceiling system and 2 Hours for a wall system. All in accordance with EN1634, part 1:2000. Fire doors have intumescent strips fitted on the frames. DO NOT interfere with these seals.

Tile faced wall access panel APD.CTD wall panels are designed to fit into any type of wall system allowing easy access into the void, to be finished with ceramic or marble tiles. The doors are designed to be concealed and match the tile arrangement, the gap around the door matching the grout width. A quick release hinge allows removal of the door to give maximum access and eliminates contact between the edges of tiles when in use. For areas of high humidity please specify a stainless steel version.

APD.CTD/B1 budget range of ceramic wall access panels has been introduced to cater for situations where minimal access is required to gain entry to stop taps, plumbing joints etc, which are hidden behind a tiled wall/partition. APD.CIRC.PF Circular ceiling panels are designed to fit into any type of ceiling system allowing easy access into the void.A 25mm wide picture frame surround is provided for retrofit. DimensionsPlease ensure that on installation of the access panel, the actual size of the structural opening in the ceiling needs to be 5mm larger than the overall panel size eg. Structural opening for 600mm diameter would need to be 605mm diameter (See sizes below). Non standard sizes are available.

Accessories and Installation

It should be noted that the access panel will require independent bracing and support which is sufficient to secure and also allow the safe opening of the access panel within the ceiling/wall system. For ceiling access panels greater than 600 x 600, it is advisable to request the fitting of safety chains or friction hinges.

Dampers/friction hinges can be fitted for controlled descent. Alternatively a safety chain can be incorporated to prevent ceiling door from dropping.

Internal handle for operation from above. A female Tee key operates the door from below.

Internal catch. Used to prevent the door from dropping.

The lid is held shut by a heavy duty 24v electromagnetic solenoid switch, which can be wired into the FAS or BMS system.

Operated by a 24v DC actuator. A 24v transformer can be supplied with controls. Contact our sales department for further details.

FITTING INSTRUCTIONS

1. Mark wall using inner flange as a guide.

4. Place panel into the prepared aperture, make sure frame is level and press firmly until adhesive is set. Use suitable adhesive for permanently damp or wet areas.

5. Fit door to frame. 6. To open door prise open with a screw driver at the visible slot on one edge of the door.

2. Cut aperture on wall 5mm larger than the door size.

3. Apply thin layer of caulking adhesive to rear of frame.

FITTING INSTRUCTIONS

5. Skim over the frame. 6. Work around the frame. If using panels with a PLASTERBOARD door, skimming over door should be done at the same time as frame.

1. Cut the plasterboard to the aperture,which needs to be 5mm larger than the panel size.

2. Place the panel into the aperture, ensuring frame is flush with surface.

7. Clean out the plaster from between door and frame before painting.

8. Apply the first coat of emulsion to the door and ceiling. Simple to operate; remove the plastic plug, insert the Tee key into the budget lock and rotate 45 degrees. Ensure there is sufficient clearance for the lock to operate correctly.

3. Fix the panel through the side of the frame only, using the pre-punched holes. Screw fix through fixing points. Additional packers may be needed to prevent distortion of the frame.

4. Apply scrim tape around the frame. Access panels with a concealed beaded frame are designed for a wet finish. Scrim tape must be applied to all beaded edges prior to plastering. (If using panels with a PLASTERBOARD door, apply scrim tape to door)

IMPORTANT NOTE: if scrim tape is not used the plaster may not adhere to the access panels frame.

SRH Roof Hatch

SRH single or double leaf roof hatches are manufactured in aluminium with an optional polyester powder coated finish to any RAL colour. Each SRH is insulated against heat loss and condensation to maintain the thermal integrity of the building. Weighted sounds reductions can also be incorporated.

The gas spring assisted opening lid is supported by heavy duty aluminium hinges and features an integral ‘wrap over’ edge, incorporating double unbroken EPDM seals. The upstand has a purpose made flashing to accept the roof felt to make it weatherproof. The hatch also incorporates a safety hold open stay to prevent against accidental closure. Various locking options are available.

Retractable Zip Ladders

The retractable ZIP ladder provides the simple solution to ceiling access. Incorporating deep and wide treads, a counterbalance spring ensures that the stairway can be opened with a minimum of effort.

Mounted on a head board for easy installation. Maximum loading 200kg/tread or 500kg/m² of the overall structure.

A complete roof access package can be provided consisting of; SRH roof hatch with an integral ZIP retractable ladder, factory fitted to a reinforced extended skirt liner and APD ceiling access door.

*Note: Add 50mm to allow for frame thickness of APD ceiling door. Customer to ensure the aperture size is large enough for their requirements.
