The festive season in Edinburgh is a holiday celebration like no other. Set against the stunning backdrop of the Castle, sparkling lights adorn the city giving it a magical, mystical feel. We invite you to meander through the winter markets, gaze in wonder at the Festival of Light and enjoy the most convivial time of the year.
The Balmoral, in the heart of Edinburgh, has celebrated the festive season for over 100 years. Our warm-hearted approach is embodied in our Christmas traditions. From our enchanting decorations in the main hall, renowned throughout the city and beyond, to our magnificent Hogmanay Gala Ball; this is our favourite time of year.

The Festive Season at The Balmoral
The Balmoral has partnered with Scotland’s luxury jeweller, Hamilton & Inches and luxury cashmere house, Hawico Scotland, to celebrate a magical festive season where wishes really do come true.
Working with our florists, three wishing trees will take centre stage in Palm Court. Set within the heart of the hotel, the trees will feature twinkling lights and white and gold wishing leaves, creating a world of enchantment.
Guests are invited to submit their wish for the festive season and beyond, allowing the trees to blossom as the leaves, featuring beautiful messages, are added each day. Gold leaves will add a little extra sparkle and allow guests to give the gift of a donation to our nominated charity.
Over 12 days in December every wish will have the chance to win a special gift or experience from The Balmoral, Hamilton & Inches or Hawico - our gift to you this festive season.

Our Hogmanay Gala Ball is one of the hottest tickets in town. This glamorous celebration commences with a superb pipes and drums performance.
A Champagne and canapé reception launches the evening in style. You will then enjoy a magnificent dinner, coupled with the finest of wines – all served in the Sir Walter Scott Suite. After dinner, the rousing ceilidh band will get you on your feet guiding even the most inexperienced guests through each step. The Bells of 2020 will be ushered in as our ceilidh musicians lead you in a traditional Auld Lang Syne. Watch the world renowned fireworks display against the magnificent backdrop of Edinburgh Castle before dancing into the wee small hours.
