PRESIDENT’S PIECE
Well, it is August and it is ‘Fair time’ once again. We have a new venue for the quilt
show and I am anxious to see how it goes - I guess we all are. Marcia Bryant has spent
many hours working with the fair group and bringing all the changes to us. Thanks Mar-
cia for all of your time and hard work. Elizabeth Shapland did such a great job with the
small quilt auction. And, of course, thanks to all of you - more than I can name - for all
of your help and hard work and support. You know who you are. That’s all I have ex-
cept that this summer is moving way too fast so I hope you all enjoy every minute of it.
Word to Live By:
As we express our gratitude, We must never forget that the highest
appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.

Treasurer’s Report: not available
The donation of fabric to the Guild was discussed. The general donation
of fabric, sewing rooms, etc., will now be handled by Mary Olson as
First Director at Large.
Fabric donations to Community Sewing, need to be 100% cotton and a
half yard or larger. Mary will investigate the donation of fabrics, sewing
supplies, and other craft items to the villages.
Marcia reported that the Quilt Barn and Quilt Show were coming to-
gether.
Annual meeting: Elaine is looking at caterers and will ask for a commit-
tee to help at the August meeting.
We discussed Kat’s suggestion of a Demonstrations Committee Event
position. We felt that this was covered under the Community Sewing
Committee.
There was discussion on updating the Brochure. Linda will update the
changes and we will review at a later date, creating a new brochure, if
needed.
We continued and finished reviewing the By-laws. The Guild still needs
a Director of Record and a Parliamentarian. Pat is continuing to purge
old files and stated that we needed a record of past presidents. She stat-
ed that we should have a log of past Officers filed in the archives at
UAF.
There was discussion of pictures of Show and Tell being posted to the
Guild’s website. Elaine will contact Linda to see if Bobbie can have per-
mission to post to the site.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:30 pm.
Respectfully submitted, Elaine Thompson McGee

Salted Peanut Chews Shared by Veronica Belton
Heat oven to 350.
Base
1 pkg Yellow Cake Mix
1/3 cup butter, softened
1 egg
3 cups miniature marshmallows
Topping
2/3 cup corn syrup
1/4 cup butter
2 tsp vanilla extract
10-oz pkg (2 cups) peanut butter chips
2 cups Rice Krispie cereal
2 cups salted peanuts Line a 13” x 9” pan with parchment paper; leave enough so you can lift
the baked bars out to cut. I spray some Pam on the pan to keep the
parchment paper in place. In a large bowl, combine all base ingredients except marshmallows at
low speed until crumbly. Press into bottom of pan. Bake at 350 for 12-18 minutes, or until edges
are light golden brown. Remove from oven and sprinkle marshmallows
evenly. Return to oven 2-3 minutes or until marshmallows just begin to
puff. Let cool while preparing topping. In a large saucepan, heat corn syrup, butter, vanilla, and chips just until
melted and mixture is smooth, stirring constantly.
Remove from heat, stir in cereal and nuts. Immediately spoon warm topping over marshmallows, spread to cover.
Chill.
Lift parchment paper out of pan. Cut into (36) bars. Store covered.
