PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Last Thursday we held our annual TAP’s On! Day. We seem to always bring on the rain for our community, we hope this is always a welcomed weather change! A big thank you to whole school community on their continued support for our Timboon Agriculture Project. The continued support demonstrated by local businesses is outstanding. Again our student body stepped by delivering some of the workshops and sharing their skills and knowledge. It’s hard to believe that this project is nearly six years old and it keeps going from strength to strength. Well done Timboon! Congratulations to our Year 12 students who completed their final exams this week. Last Friday evening we held our Year 12 graduation (photo below). I would like to personally thank the contributions made by parents and staff this year in supporting students with their education.

Pictured above: Our proud year 12 students Well done to our Year 10 students who this undertook the mock interview process on Tuesday. This is an invaluable experience for our students as they embark on their final two years of school. Preparation for this process has been taking place through the Year 10 Homegroup curriculum. A big thank you to Careers Co-ordinator Drew Deppeler and all of the local businesses that support this process.

Pictured above: Some of year 10 students ready to impress! Congratulations to the large number of Timboon P12 students who participated in and achieved placings in the recent triathlon held in Warrnambool recently. On Monday School Council President, Matthew Bowker and I had the pleasure of accompanying other school principals and personnel from other senior schools in the shire on a tour of the near complete trade training facilities. This was an opportunity to see first-hand the newly created VETIS (vocational education in schools) programs and facilities our students will have access to

now and in the future. Students in Years 10, 11 and 12 are able to undertake a VET unit and many students currently access these certificates in Warrnambool at SWTAFE. The following schools will be providing the following units now and into the future: Timboon P12- Hospitality, Engineering and Music (all running in 2018) Camperdown P12 College - Hairdressing & Beauty (to run in 2019) Terang P12 College- Community Services (to run in 2019) Derrinallum P12- Agriculture (to run in 2019) Cobden Technical School - Building and Construction (running in 2018), Automotive and Electrotechnology (to be confirmed if running in 2018 or 2019)

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Congratulations to all of our students who have completed their Year 12 exams. They concluded Tuesday with the Japanese and Indonesian exams. Thank you to all students, families and staff who attended the Year 12 Formal on Friday night. It was a lovely celebration of 12 years of schooling. We wish the 2017 cohort of Year 12s all the best in the coming year and for a safe Christmas break. Coming up next week are our Year 9 and 10 exams. Students are reminded that they are required at school for the entire week; they need to be in class when they are not in exams and they should be in full school uniform. Please see the timetable attached. Lastly a big thank you to the staff, students and community who helped to run TAP’s On! last week. The tap was certainly on with the weather but it didn’t dampen a fantastic celebration. Lastly, a reminder to parents: please contact your children through the front office. Students are not meant to have their phones out at recess, lunch or in class. If you call through the front office we will get the message to your child and they can call you back. We’re working really hard to ensure our students respect the school policy around mobile devices, which for the most part they are fantastic at doing. Regards, DAN WALKER 7-12 ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

‘Precious pumpkin package coming soon’

TAP’s On! learning about the life cycle of a pumpkin and pumpkins in literature.

Coming to your garden in the next two weeks: one of twenty varieties of heirloom pumpkin seedlings. FISHCARE WORKSHOP FOR JUNIOR PARK RANGERS We were very pleased to have Jacinta Early from Fishcare come and speak with the Junior Rangers about fish biology and conservation last Friday. Students considered bag limits, size and season restrictions and the interesting lives of fish. We are off to put the theory into practice on the 1st December. Stay tuned… Denise Murray

YEAR 7 GEOGRAPHY EXCURSION – TOWER HILL Well it was a hot day, but most students came prepared with hats, water and plenty of snacks. We climbed the peak and learnt about the geology of the region. A nice breeze and great view of the area from the top was enjoyed by all! A walk, talk and gawk around the visitor centre informed students of the local plant and animal species, and how people may have used the items in the ‘bush pantry’. A wetland specialist educator took the students to investigate the wonderful Wagon Bay and the discussion centred on the natural resources available at this location. Of course we had a boomerang throwing lesson as well. Fortunately we were not relying on catching our dinner because most of us needed some more practice! Congratulations to the students who participated positively by asking and answering questions, and getting involved in the day’s activities. Denise Murray Humanities Coordinator

WALK OCTOBER Our school has supported VicHealth’s initiative in promoting healthy well-being during the month of October. Primary school students have been energetically walking around the school grounds to get their 60 minutes of physical activity, each day. By participating in this event and registering our weekly tallies, Timboon P-12 School has managed to win a great regional prize: $300 worth of vouchers from Camperdown Benallacks Sports and a 2-hour activity session on healthy eating with Kylie Treble from the Place of Wonder. Students have not only benefited from practising good exercise habits, but they will also benefit from this

generous gift for all their efforts.
