Minutes for June 1, 2016 NEOVC Meeting

The meeting was called to order by the President, Paul Reynolds, at

6:25 PM on Wednesday, June 1 with 28 members in attendance.

Sam Mansell has planned two socials for June. On Wednesday, June 8,

Sam has arranged dinner for us at Mario Fazio’s. Our second social is our

club picnic on Sunday, June 26, at West Woods located in the Geauga Park

District. As of today’s date we have 33 members signed up for this event.

Sunday, September 18, is the date for our clambake, once again, graciously

hosted by Ted and Kathy Mowinski at their home. The club will pay for the

clams, Ted and Kathy will provide corn on the cob and clam chowder.

Everyone else is asked to bring a dish to share.

Along with the Aurora Farms Exhibit on July 23 and the Tim Lally

Memorial Car Show on August 14, several other local car shows our

    members plan to attend are:

June 7 Corvette Night Solon Commons

July 23 St. Justin Car Cruise St. Justin Festival

  • July 30 Solon Benefit Car Show Solon Commons

August 27 Anna Maria Charity Car Show The Atrium-Anna Maria

T.R. Aldrich informed our club the NCCC Low Speed Autocross Events will

be held at the Richmond Mall during the July 4th weekend. Three of these

sanctioned shows are the ones we gave back to the region. T.R. Aldrich

made the motion, and Sam Mansell seconded, to donate our portion of the

money received from these three events back to the region to help offset

    their financial cost. Motion Passed.

Several items relating to the Tim Lally Car Show are as follows:

    1) ”Save the Date” letters are being sent out tomorrow to all the Classic

Chevy and Non-NCCC car show participants from last year’s show.

    2) Dave and Shelley Zuber volunteered to purchase 200 pens. The club

    will reimburse them.

    3) Chuck Bart will furnish the tents.

    4) Paul Reynolds has started to discuss with Kim Lally the logistics of the

show. Since we are in a new facility we need to know where we can

set up the registration, food, etc. Kim will get back to him before

    the next meeting.

    5) A vendor requested permission to sell items at our show. The

members present voted not to allow any vendors at our show.

Ed Suit met with Kyle Hersh from Aurora Farms on May 11 to go over

items relating to our Car Show Exhibit on July 23. Everything is

proceeding nicely. We still need Classic Chevys for this event.

The trip by our members to view Ken Ligenfelter’s car collection in

Brighton, Michigan this fall was cancelled due to lack of interest.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 PM. Rosemary Suit, Secretary

President's June 2016 Message As I sit here writing this June report, it was almost 90 degrees in the Midwest today. Spring is ending and summer is on its way here and I have some exciting news to share with everyone.

The 2017 NCCC National Convention is back! August 21st through 25th, 2017 and heading to Bowling Green, KY home of the National Corvette Museum, Motor Sports Park, and GM Corvette Factory for a week of fun.

Coming soon July 17th through the 22nd 2016, the NCCC Convention is in Omaha Nebraska. There is still time to sign up for this event. Contact Convention Director Gene Gau or Treasurer Bernyce Molenda and they can sign you up to attend all the

activities planned for the week. Check the NCCC Website for info and contact information.

Here is the exciting news. NCCC’s new Director of Charity is Michele Cantelmo who will start NCCC’s new raffle program to win a certificate for a new Corvette. You pick where and what Corvette you want, and NCCC sends a certificate to the dealer of your choice for $54,000.00. Not bad…however, if you need cash, NCCC will give you

    http://www.geaugaparkdistrict.org/parks/westwoods.shtmlhttp://thebertraminn.com/

  • $40,000.00 cash instead. Only 2000 tickets at $50 each. Good odds! Check the NCCC Website application under Charity to obtain tickets.

The NCCC Officer Report for June is from VP of Membership Steve Johnson. Below Steve’s report is a sample the new raffle ticket and a message from the new Director of Charity Michele Cantelmo.

Enjoy the summer. It only comes once each year. Remember, we can’t change the past, so make the most of your future and get involved doing things with your Corvette.

    Dave Heinemann, President NCCC

June 2016 Membership Update Highlights The greatest thing about being elected the NCCC Vice-President of Membership in the fall of 2012 and commencing the first of two terms has been the Corvette people I have met and talked with around the country. Our members are very enthusiastic about their cars and the many competition events and club activities they do. I know there are a lot of members and other non-members out there across the country that would like to be more involved in NCCC events and/or a NCCC club but, life certainly can keep us busy.

Our members like to share their expertise and knowledge of repairs and “fixes” they have done on their own cars throughout the years. This is very close to our “Family

Helping Family” program and, when it comes to repairs, this could be re-named “Member Helping Member Who Needs a Mechanic’s Help.” Just to demonstrate how helpful a fellow member can be was when I recently tried to change my water pump and Opti-spark unit on my 1994 Blackrose Metallic coupe. Marty Specht, governor of USA-1 Corvette Club, State College, Pennsylvania, has been a tremendous help in getting me through my difficulties. With wrenches in hand as the droplight has been illuminating the engine compartment, I have had Marty on “speaker” walking me through the steps. As the lead Corvette brains at the dealership where he works, Marty’s expertise has been amazing. Too bad he lives 175 miles away.

Our current membership total number count at the end of May is 18,605 and 249 clubs. The springtime always gets busy with new members joining the clubs and sending Member-at-Large applications. Thankfully, we get quite a number of late renewing members who have realized they had forgotten to renew at the end of the previous year. We should be back to around 19,000+ members in the coming months!!

If you see someone wearing a Corvette hat or any other piece of Corvette apparel, you should always start a conversation by asking “What year?” or “What color is your Corvette?” You just might end up getting another member to join your club or you can refer them to a club in the area where they live.

    Spread the good news.

    Steve Johnson, V.P of Membership

    NCCC Director of Charity Message

I am excited to take this opportunity to introduce myself to members that may not know me. My name is Michele Cantelmo and I am currently Treasurer of my local club High Point Cruisers in Montague, NJ, and Secretary of the East Region NCCC. I have been an NCCC member for 22 years, and recently ran my first auto cross and thoroughly enjoyed it!

At the April National Governors Meeting, Dave Heinemann appointed me as Director of Charity. I am grateful for this opportunity to serve NCCC and to expand my charitable work on a National level.

Many exciting things have happened with NCCC Charity Program since the April 22nd meeting. In April, Governors voted for their Charity of choice and St. Jude

  • Children’s Research Hospital was chosen. NCCC is now registered with St. Jude.

I would like to introduce you to our new raffle system. I, Betty Parks and Betty’s niece who helped with the graphics created a new raffle ticket. For $50 you can take a chance to win $54,000 to put towards a new Corvette or take $40,000 in cash. Proceeds will also be awarded to St. Jude. The drawing will be at the November 12th, 2016 National Governors Meeting. An example of the ticket is shown below. Tickets will be sold at Bloomington Gold, 2016 Convention in Omaha, Mid America Funfest, Corvettes at Carlisle, September National Governor’s Meeting, and November National Governor’s Meeting. The new Raffle Order Form is posted on the NCCC website for those members who will not be at these events and want to order tickets.

We are all blessed as Corvette owners and enjoy the fellowship and competition of NCCC, but it is our desire to be charitable that makes this a special unique organization. Additional information about the Charity Program will be available in the August issue of Blue Bars.

  • 1978 Silver Anniversary Corvette With Just

    4.1 Miles Hits eBay

Low mileage is one thing, but this 1978 Silver Anniversary Chevrolet Corvette has just 4.1 miles on the odometer. Once it was purchased and shipped to the original buyer, he rolled it into his garage and that’s where this Corvette has been for the last 38 years.

According to BestRide, there were two special editions made up for the Corvette’s 25th anniversary. The first was an Indy 500 pace car replica and the second was this Silver Anniversary edition. It was available on any Corvette as a paint option for $399 and 15,283 people opted for the two-tone paint combination.

  • This particular example has the more powerful L82 engine and every option you could possibly add. This includes power windows and locks, sport mirrors, 60-series white-letter tires, and a built-in CB radio because that was a mighty fine extra in the 1970s.

The original price was $13,658.21 which would be close to $50,000 in today’s dollars. That would be a steal for a brand new Corvette. You better have more cash in the bank if you want to own this today because it’s a true collector’s gem. If you do have the cash, head on over to eBay.

  • 2017 Chevrolet Corvette Zora ZR1: The Next-

    Level Vette

The mid-engined Corvette we've demanded for about half a century.

    What It Is

The mid-engined Corvette that GM has teased us with—and that Don Sherman has demanded—for about half a century.

    Why It Matters

Moving the engine rearward enables significantly improved acceleration and braking performance. Fresh exterior proportions should woo new customers even as they tip some old ones into cardiac arrest.

    Platform

While the aluminum space frame and composite coachwork matrix continues, only a few structural and chassis parts will graduate from the current C7 Vette. Low production volumes will give GM an excellent excuse to show off advanced technology, such as door structures formed from sheets of magnesium.

    Powertrain

For this top-hole Zora ZR1 version of the C8, we’re betting on a supercharged small-block V-8 with the fortitude to top Chrysler’s 707-hp Hellcat V-8. It will collaborate with a dual-clutch automatic transaxle. Later in the C8’s life, the engine bay could host a naturally aspirated DOHC

  • V-8 or a twin-turbo V-6. In the likely event that Chevy decides to play the i8/NSX game, the front end is package-protected for electric motors.

    Competition

Ferrari 458 performance at a Porsche 911 Turbo price should send ripples through the blue-blood clique (Audi, BMW, Jaguar, Lamborghini, Mercedes-AMG, Porsche).

    What Might Go Wrong

Development delays might force GM management to leash the beast for a bit. Or, this could all be a recurring dream.

    Estimated Arrival and Price

The 2017 model should arrive in dealerships by the end of next year. Expect a sticker starting at $150,000.
