CELEBRATING THE PEACE DAY AT TEOBALDO POWER ince 1948, the UN established January 30 as the Day of Peace

and Nonviolence, commemorating the assassination of the

pacifist and spiritual leader Mahatma Gandhi.

Articles 1 and 2 of the UN reflect the

basic principles of the rights of Liberty,

Equality, Fraternity and Non-discrimination, and emphasize the need

for men to be peaceful, to be

considerate and respectful to all human

beings.

We live in a super technological era. New

communication devices and tons of

information bombarded at us every day.

This allows us to know the about the world around us at the touch of button.

We should be able to respond in some

way to the people living with no opportunities, in violence and in wars.

We can all take a stand and do something about this. Human rights

are "rights and freedoms to which all humans are entitled. We must

make sure all people are treated fairly, have the same opportunities,

have the right to education and health. We must stop discrimination and distribute wealth fairly among everyone and do away with this

world where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. This way we

will be able to reach that peaceful place in the world. Where we are

all different but all equal -as Mahatma Gandhi alleged.

Gandhi also said that you can

not preach nonviolence to a

coward, like you can not invite a blind man to enjoy a

beautiful landscape.

Nonviolence is the ultimate

value of human rights and non-violence can be seen

when we do away with

cowards. He who has not

overcome fear can not

practice non-violence.

Therefore, with courage and determination, democratic awareness

and belief in the equal rights of all men and women, we can build a

world of peace and hence a better world.

Igualdad, Fraternidad y No

mejor.
