Reflections with Father Uju Seventh Sunday of Easter

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of Pentecost, the Solem-

nity of the birthday of the Church as a sign for the world to

see, and as the Ark of the new Covenant. This new cove-

nant is the birth of a new nation of believers. From the Jew-

ish root of Christianity, the symbolism of this Day is in the

fact that it falls in the season when Jews gather to celebrate

the birth of their nation as a free people—an event that took

place on their pilgrimage to the land of promise. The sig-

nificance of the celebration was in the fact that those who

left Egypt were not only the Jews but also all the non-

Egyptian slaves who hungered for freedom. These different

peoples were bound together in a covenant relationship with

the God of the Hebrews who is the architect of the Exodus

and who delights in the freedom of all He created. That God

chose this day to send the Holy Spirit is because He wanted

a new covenant, though inaugurated in Christ. This new

kingdom is for all who seek the freedom of the Children of

God and who realize that they are on pilgrimage to the

home, which God has prepared for us all. Members of this

new nation need a new leader, they need a new command,

and they need a new song. The Holy Spirit comes to set

them on fire. It comes to set the people free by breaking

every barrier so that the message of God can no longer be

an exotic item. God comes to all and speaks in the lan-

guage of all people and what it communicates to us all is

that He is wonderful in our lives. If you have received this

Spirit, therefore, you are imbued with the power of His

presence, you have a new song, and you carry a powerful

message. Do not allow your message to be held down by

any force. The pandemic that has changed a lot of our lives

and approach to things will not last forever. Yes, it has been

devastating but the Holy Spirit comes to renew our world

and us. And in the name of Jesus, the month of June will

begin, more powerfully, to restore to us what we have lost

through the lockdown. So let us begin now, with the

strength of the Holy Spirit to live as free and renewed peo-

ple. The ways you make these known are the languages you

are speaking. Let no one shut you up—Speak to His glory,

sing to His glory, and work for His glory.

Sharing the Gospel

The apostles were given the power to for-give sins. When you tell the priest your sins, he has the power to remind you of

God's forgiveness. Jesus died on the cross so your sins can be forgiven. Because God forgives you, he wants you to forgive oth-ers. Forgiving those who hurt you is very hard when you are an-gry and hurt. Ask God to fill you with love and make you strong enough to say, "I forgive you."

Mission for the Week When I hurt others, I will say, "I'm sorry. Will you forgive me?"

Prayer

God, help me admit it when I am wrong. Amen.

We would like to thank all of our parishioners and visitors for

being generous with your weekly donations. We depend on your generosity to meet the financial needs of our parish.

May God bless you for your continued support!

Prayer in the time of COVID-19 Pandemic

O good and merciful God we thank you for the beauty of creation and ask pardon for how we have abused the universe you created and found good. At this time of universal pandemic we come helpless before you asking for mercy for ourselves and our world. Grant eternal rest to the dead and your healing favors to all infect-ed with this virus. Through your help may a lasting remedy be soon found. Protect all essential workers and all in the frontlines, as professionals and as families, who risk everything for the care and support of others. Grant to our political leaders, the spirit to work together for the common good. To our spiritual leaders, the zeal for the salvation of the souls in their care. And to us all, the determination to do all that are asked of us to be safe and to en-sure the safety of others. May the prayers of the Blessed Virgin Mary, invoked as help of Christians and health of the sick, grant

us the favors we ask, of you, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
