Del Ray Artisans 2019 Exhibit Schedule Calls for Entry [as they become available] are at www.DelRayArtisans.org/cfe

January: Faces (All Artists) Call for Entry Available - Entry Deadline: December 16, 2018 by Midnight 12/30 &12/31 receiving, 01/04 opening, 01/27 closing Curators: Rita Schooley & Kathy Turner Portraits show the life a person has lived, the joy a person emanates, the wisdom gained through years of living, and focuses on the soul of the person. This exhibit is for the fresh face of a two-year old toddler or the lived-in face of an octogenarian, and all living in between. Full-length portraits are encouraged, but this exhibit centers on faces, however the artist portrays them, whether realistic, impressionistic, surreal, or abstract. Bodies in motion, thoughtful faces, eyes as the mirror of the soul are all part of the portrait. February: New Beginnings (All Artists) 01/27 & 01/28 receiving, 02/01 opening, 02/24 closing Curator: Tracy Wilkerson A recycled materials show, where the artwork submitted is asked to be at least 50% recycled materials March: For the Artist (Members Only) 02/24 & 02/25 receiving, 03/01 opening, 03/31 closing Curators: Jeff Lodge & Jenny Nicholson

This show features works that the artist has always wanted to create. Create that piece that has been bugging you, calling to you, and been on your New Year’s resolution list several years running. Although this can be considered an open show, we challenge participants to reach into that wish list and create that special piece they’ve dreamed about doing. Two and three-dimensional works and photography will be accepted. April: (No) Comfort Zone (Members & Students Only) 03/31 & 04/01 receiving, 04/05 opening, 04/28 closing Curators: Joe Franklin & Kelly Sincock In your comfort zone things feel familiar and you are at ease and in control of your environment. You experience low levels of anxiety and stress. This is where a steady level of performance is possible. Uncertainty, scarcity and vulnerability are minimized you have access to enough love, food, talent, time, admiration. You feel like you have some control. Leave your comfort zone for the fun and excitement of the new! Savor the unknown, the unfamiliar and the uncertain. Travel; meet the people who are not you. At first, fear and excitement drive you. If you stay, eventually it all seems normal. Creativity wanes, spontaneous solutions go back to sleep and you are normal again. Go to the edge and a new zone. May: Sacred Feminine (All Artists) 04/28 & 04/29 receiving, 05/03 opening, 06/02 closing Curators: Lynn Fernandez & Tamara Wilkerson For the last several thousand years the dominant religious belief systems of our world have been patriarchal. This has sanctioned societal ethics that elevate “God the Father” over “Mother Earth” and as a result, this power dichotomy elevates the wants and desires of men over women. The sacred feminine has been replaced with the easily exploited stereotypes of virgin or whore. For hundreds of years women with knowledge of childbirth, medicine, science, or even just the ability to read were burned at the stake as witches to repress the sacred feminine. Despite all of its progress, our modern world still skews away from honoring the sacred feminine. We promote unhealthy body standards to keep women enslaved to an unobtainable ideal. We use the bodies of women to sell products from fast food to luxury cars while simultaneously shunning women for a flash of skin while breastfeeding in public. We discard women as disposable or less believable based on their sexual history. The world constantly debates a women’s right to have fundamental human rights like voting, driving, and basic autonomy over their own bodies. This multi-media show seeks to define the essence of the female energy in all its forms. What does the Divine feminine look like to you? How do you picture the goddess in her many permutations from Isis, Ishtar, and Gaia, to Kali, Kuan Yin, and the Virgin Mary. What does it mean to be female? What is your experience positioned firmly at the juxtaposition of what society constantly tells you to be and the reality of what you are? What does the sacred feminine mean to you as a person who identifies as female or not?

Del Ray Artisans 2019 Exhibit Schedule Calls for Entry [as they become available] are at www.DelRayArtisans.org/cfe

June: Art in Meditation – Chakras (All Artists) 06/02 & 06/03 receiving, 06/07 opening, 06/30 closing Curators: Joyce A Frank & Kitty Russell What do the Chakras or just one individual Chakra mean to you? Chakras are light, energy, color, feeling. Chakras are the 7 energy centers of the body. Each of the 7 is represented by an element of nature, color, positive and negative sides. Many yoga and mediation practices are based around these energy centers.

1. Root chakra — base of the spine — red 2. Sacral chakra — just below the navel — orange 3. Solar Plexus chakra — stomach area — yellow 4. Heart chakra — center of the chest — green 5. Throat chakra — base of the throat — blue 6. Third Eye chakra — forehead, just above area between the eyes — indigo 7. Crown chakra — top of the head — violet

This show will accept up to 7 entries if each of the chakras is represented in 7 separate works of art, space permitting. Otherwise the usual maximum limit of 3 works of art per entrant applies. August: In with the new (New to DRA 2018 & 2019 Members Only)07/28 & 07/29 receiving, 08/02 opening, 09/01 closingCurators: Brittany Gabel & Kurt Peterson DRA shows love to new members. This exhibit will serve to welcome new DRA members who have joined in 2018 and 2019, up until the entry deadline for this show. New members are invited to enter this special exhibit for free. This will be an open theme show, so new members will have maximum ability to showcase their art. Welcome to DRA! September: High Note (All Artists) 09/01 & 09/02 receiving, 09/06 opening, 09/29 closing Curators: Nicole Mahoney & Dawn Wyse Hurto High Note explores the connection between music and the mind. Music has a profound influence on us, shaping the way we feel and think. We often associate music with major life events. A familiar melody can unleash powerful memories, transporting us in space and time. What does your mind “see” when you hear your wedding song or a selection off the playlist from your first marathon? This show explores the connections between music and the mind. Whether symphonies make your spirit soar, or doo-wops do it for you, artists are encouraged to submit works that capture the high notes from the soundtrack of their lives. October: The 5th Dimension (All Artists) 09/29 & 09/30 receiving, 10/04 opening, 10/27 closing Curator: Gordon Thomas The eerie drama of The Twilight Zone has had a pervasive influence on modern art and pop culture. Surreal, supernatural, fantastic, and whimsical events occurred each week with an uncanny twist. I want to bring this timeless television show to life through art and photography. November: $100 & Under - [3rd edition] (Members Only) 10/27, 10/28 receiving, 11/01 opening, 12/01 closing Curators: Stephen Lally & Kathy Turner The popular $100 & Under exhibit makes its biannual return, featuring art priced at $100 or less. This is a great chance for people to directly support the arts in your community at pocketbook-friendly prices. The art will be sold on an art-to-go basis, with buyers taking art home when purchased. Additional artworks will be added as others are sold. This will be a rapidly evolving exhibit, as sold artwork is replaced each week with new work. Expect to find lots of great art at prices most art-lovers can afford. Artists may enter up to 5 pieces, with only the first 3 to be displayed initially. Artists will be asked to reserve and self store the other 2 pieces as replacements if any of their first 3 pieces sell.
