Greetings Sisters and Brothers,

Praise God from whom all blessings flow!—is first line of the

Doxology that we sing in church following the collection of

our offering. In these first seven words, we lift up our thanks

and praise hoping that it is pleasing to God. We do this

knowing that Jesus looks right into our heart, our very soul,

and knows if we are true in our thanksgiving. It doesn’t

matter if we gave a dollar, or five, or twenty or a hundred, as

long as our giving is true to our heart and reflects the true

nature of our created image. That is the true image that

Jesus reveals to us as he gives his heart and soul and yes, all

that he has in this world to the mission of God. But what is

God’s mission? I will answer that as simply and completely

as possible, letting you know in advance that it cannot be a

complete answer, nor can we fully grasp it until we have

completely and fully accepted God as the absolute first

purpose of our life. And in saying that, I have already given

you a part of the answer.

The mission of God is to bring all people together as

believers in God so that we may all be made righteous, and

therefore join in the communion of saints for all time. Now

remember, I said this is not a complete answer, but I do

believe it is a concise answer which gives us a place to

begin.

Who do you think were the first missionaries on earth?

Some people might say Adam and Eve are a representation

of the first missionaries because even though they had

broken God’s law, God sends them out into the world to

proclaim their in God whose love, grace and forgiveness is

boundless. It is the first story where a man and woman

proclaim God’s word and desire for the world.

The very next story of Cain and Able, teaches us that

Able’s offering to God came from the heart, but Cain’s

offering to God did not and therefore it fell short of what

God expected. When God let Cain know this, he became

angry with his brother for doing what was right and pleasing

in the eyes of God, instead of placing the true fault on his

own shoulders. Something we still struggle with when we

come before God with our offerings of time, talent and

resources.

Now, this past week we celebrated Easter and as we

read the 20th chapter from the Gospel of John where we

heard how Mary Magdalene approached the tomb of Jesus

“while it was still dark” because she was filled with great

sorrow. But then Jesus called to her “Mary” and her eyes

were opened to the risen Jesus. Jesus told her, “Do not hold

on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go

instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my

Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’” Mary

was commanded by Jesus, one person of the Triune God, to

go and proclaim his words, the words of God. That makes

Mary the first Christian missionary to proclaim the God’s

words to the disciples. Later, the disciples are told by Jesus to

go and proclaim God’s word making them Christian

missionaries too!

Now it is our turn to proclaim the word of God through our

words and our actions. Men and women; young, younger,

and youngest; in the light and in the dark; and in good times

or bad; we are to be Christian missionaries by proclaiming

the word of God to all people in hopes that they too will find

their way to our risen Savior, Jesus Christ! Praise be to God!

Grace and peace,

Pastor Steve To participate in mission is to participate

in the movement of God's love toward

people, since God is a fountain of

sending love. David Bosch

Christian Education News:

Ronald McDonald House Mission Trip – March 9, 2016

Since this fall; our oldest Sunday School class has been preparing to

take a mission trip to the Ronald McDonald House in Iowa City.

The class decided they wanted to make tie blankets for patients at

the University of Iowa Hospital. We spent some time in class

making six blankets to give away. We also asked other classes if

our Annual Bake Sale proceeds could go as a donation to the

Ronald McDonald House. The classes agreed and together with the

support of the Missions Committee we were able to deliver a

monetary donation of $640! Thanks to everyone making this

possible!

With six young, active students it was a difficult task to make a date

work for everyone but we finally made it happen on March 9th

!

Special thanks to Dean Behrens who volunteered to drive all of us

and help out on the trip! We first were given a tour of the house.

There are thirty-one rooms for families to use while a family

member is in the hospital. We were all impressed with the

facilities! Next we were put to work. Three of the girls headed to

the pop tab collection room to sort tabs that were metal. The

sorting needs to happen before the tabs are boxed up and turned in

for redemption. The other three girls headed to the kitchen to make

some desserts for dinner and cinnamon rolls for breakfast. At about

an hour into the process; we switched jobs and continued with our

mission to help out and lend a hand. As we worked we met a

couple patients that were given a tie blanket and showed sincere

appreciation for them! Each family tells their story on a dry erase

board on their door. The girls decided to read the stories and select

three other families to leave the blankets for at their doorstep. We

ended our time at the Ronald McDonald with a group prayer. I

believe each of us were touched by the stories we heard and took

away a good feeling inside us that we could help make their day

brighter! It is my hope this trip can become an annual one with our

older youth! Please consider saving your pop tabs and we will soon

have a collection box here at church for all pop tabs to be collected

in and given to the Ronald McDonald House. Thank you!

Kelly Nabb Christian Education Coordinator

Greetings to you my Brothers and Sisters,

Is God tempting you with his glorious beauty? Spring is here!!! It

is a time of rebirth and renewal. Everywhere we look God is

sharing his love for us and with us. As we look upon the landscape,

no longer do we see only darkness and drab, but we see beautiful

shades of green. Our world around us is springing forth new life.

We are greeted each day with songs from the many birds which

have returned bringing us hope for another season. Flowers are

poking up from the once frozen soil and the majestic trees are

once again starting to bud. God’s promise of new life is evident in

our homes and on our farms with the many babies being born.

Yes, spring is here indeed.

Our annual Spring Dinner is almost upon us. Please be sure to

check the worker’s list in this Herald for your time to work or bring a

dish. Remember if something comes up and you are unable come

to the dinner; please call another member on the reserve list

which is also in this Herald. As a capstone to our Spring Dinner, it

would be wonderful if anyone who is working till the end would

join together and enjoy their meal in the main dining room.

Let us, as a community in Christ, come together in a spirit of

rebirth and renewal and enjoy God’s promise of new life together

as one body.

Senior High Fellowship met on Sunday,

February 28th following the worship service. All

members were in attendance. The Luepker’s

provided a splendid meal. Avery Luepker gave

the opening devotional an

d prayer. President, Cody Fields, then

called the meeting to order. Makayla Schluter

gave the financial report. There was a vote to

buy Easter lilies, which was passed. As a fun

activity SHF decided to join Christian education

in their trip to Air-Fx at the end of the year. There

was a discussion held about finding a new SHF

sponsor for next year. The Food Drive held

February 22nd through the 25th at North Cedar

schools was a success. We collected a good

amount of food and it got split up between the

Lowden UCC and the Clarence UCC food

pantries. The Easter Sunrise service was planned.

Senior High Fellowship’s next meeting is

Saturday, March 26th at 10:00 am to practice

and set up for the Sunrise service and Easter

breakfast on Sunday, March 27th.
