Page 2: Celeste's Obituary

Celeste Janae Williams entered the living domain on November 2, 2012 Chicago,

IL. She was born to Natasha Sloan and Jarell Williams - two beautiful young people that

only grew in brilliance in her presence. In her time on earth, she brought joy and hope to

all who were graced with her presence. She even touched the hearts of many through the

numerous photographs taken by various family members.

People would often say, “That baby has been here before!” It is for this reason that

we now recognize Celeste as our “abiku”. Abiku is defined in Nigerian Yoruba tradition

as : ‘a West Africa reincarnated being: a spirit in the form of a child who must repeatedly die and

be reborn.’ With her she brought love, peace and hope for a better tomorrow to our

families.

Celeste ascended to ancestor status on January 11, 2013. She leaves to cherish her

brief presence her parents; her maternal grandmothers – Janean L. Watkins, Lakeesha

Harris; paternal grandmother – Rynetta Harris; maternal grandfather - Demetrius Sloan;

paternal grandfathers – Maurice Grant and Marvin Harris; great grandmothers –

Yvonne Williams, Brenda Watkins, Saundra Treadwell and Jacquelyn Reed; maternal

great-grandfather - James K .Watkins; godmother - Sonja Newby; 17 aunts and uncles;

and a host of family and friends.

Celeste Janae—Our Heavenly Light Prayer to the Orisha, Yemaya

Yemaya, Blessed Mother of the Seas,

Let Your Sacred Waters wash over me.

Mother, embrace me, Your humble child.

Cleanse me, Nurture me, Sustain me.

Yemaya, Beautiful One.

You Who wears the Seven Skirts of the Seven Seas,

Swirl around me and create a flow of energy

that can wash away all bane.

Yemaya, Mistress of the Moon,

Shine Your light onto me,

And fill me with your magic.

Help me to accomplish my goals

Yemaya, Healing Ocean Mother

I ask You to fill me with Your Healing Energy

Let Your Cleansing Waters wash over me

Heal me with Your Regenerative Powers.

The Cord—Author Unknown

We are connected,

My child and I,

By an invisible cord,

Not seen by the eye.

It's not like the cord

That connects us 'til birth

This cord can't be seen

By any on earth.

This cord does its work

Right from the start.

It binds us together

Attached to my heart.

I know that it's there

Though no one can see

The invisible cord

From my child to me.

The strength of this cord

Man could create

It withstands the test

Can hold any weight.

And though you are gone,

Though you're not here with me,

The cord is still there

But no one can see.

It pulls at my heart

I am bruised…. I am sore,

But this cord is my lifeline

As never before.

I am thankful that God

Connects us this way

A mother and child

Death can't take away!
