The Global Alliance in Management EducationFounded in 1988, CEMS is a global alliance
of academic, corporate and social institutions
dedicated to educating and preparing future
generations of business leaders. From faculty
cooperation to multinational corporate and
social partner involvement in the curriculum,
the centrepiece of CEMS is its Master’s in
International Management (MIM) programme.
The CEMS MIM is a pre-experience postgraduate
degree open to students enrolled in a Master’s in
Management programme at one of the
CEMS member schools.

Beyond the global allianceIn the late 1980s, a new standard in Pan-European Management education was established through the creation of the Community of European Management Schools (CEMS). In the 2000s, CEMS reached beyond its European borders to become a truly global network by adding 12 schools on 4 continents and introducing the CEMS MIM. This all resulted in the CEMS MIM achieving a number-one world ranking by the Financial Times. However, past glories are not sufficient for an organisation with a strong collective ambition to positively im-pact the way business is done in the future.
Confronted with major shifts in the business world and economic environment in the late 2000s, CEMS was faced with a major challenge: how to promote responsible behaviour within a Management education organisation? Whether it
be emphasising values such as integrity in its selection process, committing graduates of the CEMS MIM to these values through the signing of the Global Values Statement at graduation, or adding Social Partners to the collective voice of the alliance, CEMS has increased its com-mitment to instilling empathy and a sense of responsibility in tomorrow’s business leaders at all levels.
CEMS doesn’t just “teach” these values, it aims to influence graduates of the pro-gramme to live them, based upon the in-valuable learning experience gained from the academic, corporate and social institutions that co-deliver the CEMS MIM.
Therefore it is by addressing issues of rel-evance for society and business that CEMS strives to remain on the forefront of Manage-ment education.
Forewordby Professor Thomas Bieger CEMS Chairman and President of the University of St. Gallen

Corporate and Social Partners – responsible leadership
The Corporate Partner profileCorporate Partners are leaders in their field, and
they see the mutual benefits in participating in
the CEMS MIM programme. A typical Corporate
Partner is:
// A global company, multinational corporation
or large company with strong international
scope
// Committed to the development of management
education and attracted by the CEMS student
and graduate profile
// Willing and able to contribute to the CEMS al-
liance, from student selection and governance
to curriculum delivery and recruitment
The Social Partner profileSocial Partners have been an integral part of CEMS
since late-2010 and are here to make an impact –
on the curriculum, the alliance and the thinking
of the next generation of business leaders. Social
Partners should have an international scope and
have an interest in positively influencing business
schools and students.
CEMS currently works with four Social Partners:
// CARE International
// Fairtrade Labelling Organizations International
// Transparency International
// United Nations Alliance of Civilizations
Multinational companies and Social Partners work with member schools to help develop the skills, knowledge and values in the students who will form the next generation of managers.
Getting involvedCorporate Partners are an integral part of the
CEMS alliance, giving them a host of opportuni-
ties:
// Direct involvement in a curriculum delivered si-
multaneously on 28 campuses around the world

job portal and student CV search tool offer a
one-stop connection to a worldwide student
and alumni network
// Brand visibility ensured via CEMS communica-
tion channels and student events

quality-tested pool of potential recruits

Transforming the CEMS experienceThe CEMS MIM provides graduates with the ex-

Ambassadors across the globeCEMS alumni are successful business profes-sionals working in a range of sectors. They
share the ability to adapt to a constantly chang-
ing marketplace. This has been recognised by the
Financial Times via a permanent top 5 position for
international mobility since the Masters in Man-
agement ranking began in 2005.
The natural intellectual and cultural curiosity
nurtured during the CEMS year and translated
into the early stages of their career is carried
forward later in working life to form an enviable
alumni network in professional and geographical
scope. The opportunities provided by this network
underline the crucial role that alumni play in carrying the CEMS experience many years
beyond graduation.
The Alumni Association Board, in conjunction with
in-country operations managed by Local Committees,
ensures that the global span of the alumni net-work is an active extension of the CEMS experience.
Wherever they may be living and working, CEMS
alumni are sure to find support from other mem-bers of the CEMS alliance that have carried the
values of the organisation into the business world.
“CEMS gave my life a truly international turn and helped me to build friendships all over the world - an amazing experience even after graduation!” Sarah Unkelbach
