Thenewlyestablishednon-partisanCenterforAppliedEnvironmentalLaw&Policy(CAELP)seekstofurtherinnovationandprogressinenvironmentallawandpolicysothatitcanbestserveitspurpose—protectingindividuals,communities,andnaturalsystemsfromenvironmentalthreatsandmakingtheoftenhiddencostsofenvironmentalharmsvisibleandsalient.CAELPseeksandwelcomescollaborationwithallthosesimilarlydedicatedtothispurpose.Throughthethoughtfuldevelopmentandconsistentenforcementofenvironmentallawsandpolicieswehavemadeimportantprogressinmitigatingdifferenttypesofenvironmentalthreats.Wehavealsolearnedagreatdealabouthowtomakeenvironmentallawsandpoliciesmoreefficientandmoreeffective.Today,however,wefaceenormouschallengesthatthreatenoursafetyandwellbeinganddemandallofouringenuityandinsight—climatechangeforemostamongthese.CAELPworkstosupportthedevelopmentandeffectiveimplementationofenvironmentallawsothatitcanhelpusmeetthesechallenges.TheCenterengageswithlawandpolicyasitisbeingcreatedbylegislatures,agencies,andthecourts,andworkswiththeleadingpractitionersinthisfieldtograpplewiththemostchallengingquestionsinclimate,air,andenergylawandpolicytoday--andwithwhattheycouldbetomorrow.CAELPiscurrentlyhiringforanumberofpositions:SeniorAttorney–Leadsstrategicplanning,engagement,andcollaborationwithotherstakeholdersonthemostcriticaldevelopmentsinclimate,airpollution,andenergylawandpolicy.Theidealcandidateswillhaveeightormoreyearsoflitigationandlegalpracticeexperience,deepstrategiccapacity,experiencewithlegislativeandregulatoryprocesses,facilitywithbothpractitionerandacademiclegalcommunities,andtheabilitytobothengagewithhighly-specificlegalquestionsandevaluatethebroaderlandscape.JuniorAttorney–Workswithfellowteammemberstobetterunderstandandadvancelawandpolicyoncriticalissuesinclimateandenergy.Theidealcandidateswillhavestronglegalacademicbackgrounds,keeninterestinenvironmentallaw,statebarcredentials,excellentanalytical,research,writing,andcommunicationskills,andfacilitywithtechnicalandscientificsubjects.Thispositionwillfunctionasaone-yearfellowshipforcandidateswithoutsignificantlegalexperience.CommunicationsDirector–Workswithfellowteammemberstodevelopandsupporteffective,innovativecommunicationscontentoncriticalissuesinclimateandenergy.DevelopscommunicationsabouttheworkoftheCenterforexternalaudiences.Theidealcandidateswillhavesignificantexperienceincommunications(ideallyinthecontextoflegalissues),akeeninterestinenvironmentalissuesandcommunicationsresearch,andstrongcollaborationcapacity.
