In 1999, nurse Sandra Maddock started her clinical research consulting company in her basement. Today, IMARC Research is a company with 17 em- ployees and over 30 clients that delivers high-qual- ity clinical research monitoring, auditing, training/ development and consulting services. Maddock was recently featured in Crain’s Cleveland Business’ “40 Under 40.” Come hear her entrepreneurial story. East Hall Forum, 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2011 Fireside Chat: Measure ‘Em Up! with Alex Neals, President, MeasureMeUp! East Hall Forum, 7 p.m. ? Results from ideabuild 2011! e Center for Integrated Entrepreneurship at Hiram College hosted its annual ideabuild2011 competition in the Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurship on March 2. e yearly competition gave students the opportunity to present their new entrepreneurial ideas to a panel of business and marketing professionals. Students had five minutes to explain their idea for a business or product, and then responded to questions from the judges. e top prize of $3,500 went to Lisa Bartlette, who presented the idea, “Sweet Abandon,” a system for meeting the core needs of security, serenity, belonging, purpose, and competence in the lives of at-risk orphaned children. Simone Gabriela ’13 (partnering with Artel Moreira ’13), whose idea, “Morabeza Mail Services,” won the $2,500 second prize, proposed a mail delivery system for a developing country where mail delivery currently does not exist. John Jordan, a WEC Student, took third and the $1,500 prize for his idea, “Push Pals,” a way to transport children in strollers over different types of terrain such as sand, snow and gravel. Five other students, Karen Ising, Nana Kwamena Takyi-Micah, Matt Russell, Allison Steele, and David Wolfram each won honor - able mention and a $500 prize. Congratulations to all who participated! ERLC application date extended to March 16 Integrated Entrepreneurship is now taking applications for the ERLC (Entrepreneurship Residential Learning Community). e ERLC is a living and learning community located in the suites in East Hall where students are provided with a supportive environment that encourages creativity and innovation in the pursuit of entrepreneurial interests. Open to all 2nd, 3rd and 4th year students, applications are now being accepted. DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION IS 4:30PM, MARCH 16TH. Contact Kay for more details. This week: Fireside Chat with Sandra Maddock Question of the Week—Win Pizza from Gionino’s! This engineer earned his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from UC Berkeley in 1955, where he also taught for several years. Dreaming of a day when there would be “people sitting in front of displays, ‘flying around’ in an information space where they could formulate and organize their ideas with incredible speed and flexibility,” he left Berkeley to research and invent a way to navigate this “information space.” Although his “tailed” device wouldn’t come into regular use until the 1980s, his invention is used by people every day. He was awarded the world’s largest single prize ($500,000) for innovation and invention in 1997. What is his name and what was his rodentian invention? ?Results from ideabuild 2011!The Center for Integrated Entrepreneurship at Hiram College hosted its annual ideabuild2011 competition in the Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurship on March 2.
