Dear Fellow Educators:

Our job at the Inservice Center is to help the professionals in Alabama State University’s service area continue best practices which translate into improved student learning through sound professional learning activities; therefore, we are working on your behalf. We have had candid conversations with district staff developers, Governing Board members and regional educators regarding the professional development needs of our teachers, our administrators and other school personnel. Our planning and identifying the best trainers to share strategies that work have been critical to what is available in the summer bulletin. Notice also that session topics relate to the Alabama Quality Teaching Standards (AQTS), and the College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS), which drive content and activities in K-12 schools of Alabama.

Most importantly, as you examine the offerings for this summer, please select topics which you feel are relevant to improving your instruction and most helpful for school learning communities; We learn so much from one another as we share with others. In fact, powerful conversations regarding best practices are excellent for expanding our knowledge for helping children succeed. The school working as a team to address the needs of the children is the key to a successful outcome. Consequently, the professional learning activities offered are designed to provide strategies and information for professional team learning and team sharing.

For the best results, we ask you to come with questions for consultants and participants and with a willingness to share activities you feel represent best practices supported by research and what you have observed as helpful. Also, remember that although the summer is a great time to participate in professional learning, consultants are available to repeat or follow up on summer training sessions during the 2013-2014 school year. Summer training is just the beginning. Call us anytime for help and assistance.

We look forward to your participation in the Professional Educator’s Learning Community at Alabama State University. Do not forget that we are housed in our new home, The Ralph D. Abernathy College of Education Annex Building.

Additionally, remember to register using the STIPD procedures.

Hope to see you soon!
