Technology (ICT) Market Trends

At present, the potential of the ICT market is concentrated in Sofia, the capital and largest city in Bulgaria.

Economic growth and stability, as well as increasingForeign Direct Investments (especially from the EU area) are

positively influencing the expansion of the BulgarianICT sector. As of 2009, the ICT sector was represented by

more than 5,000 companies, most of whom are small entities.

The software market accounts for 1/6 of the total ICT market. Sales in this sector are driven mainly by ERP/CRM software and solutions.

DS IT Outsourcing Market Trends

In ITO the key demand spreads to software development, bespoke IT solutions, network software, web architecture and service assistance.

Overall, the Bulgarian companies have specialized in the development of complex informational systems in different areas, including CAD/CAM, GIS, ERP, CRM, firmware, E-business and B2B solutions.

Software development and operating costs remain rather low (almost 3 times lower than in Czech Republic). However, the EU membership requires that Bulgaria adjusts its practices to the EU standards and, therefore, the threat is great that the salaries in ITO will rise significantly.
