Minutes of Meeting
President, Debbye Hassell, opened the September meeting of CKAG on September 16 at 6:30 p.m.
at Our Place, 790 North Dixie Suite 500, Elizabethtown.
A total of 16 were present with two new members: Gwen Yarbrough and Beverly Heady
Carl McKinley, Membership Chair, accepted membership fees for the new year of $30.
Those members wishing to exhibit at local businesses were reminded to contact Janet Gebler.
Jo Friel reminded members of the upcoming Judy Mudd workshop scheduled for November 2 to
be held at Our Place from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Judy will use the “Paint Along With Me” format for the
watercolor workshop. The fee for the workshop is $25 and should be sent to Jo at 123 Westwind Trail,
Bardstown, KY 40004.
Website chairperson, Theresa Shelton, reported that the computer program, “Go Daddy” may not
be operational, but that it will be retained until another program “Host Gator” is up and running as she
was unsure if the investment in “Go Daddy” was refundable. A vote was taken to retain the current pro-
gram.
Joyce Lupresto supplied entry forms for the upcoming All Member Show to be held at the Morri-
son Gallery with opening on October 4 from 5-7 p.m. It was decided a flexible deadline for entry would
be September 24 with forms to be mailed or handed to Joyce. Entry forms are available on the CKAG
website as well as in the September newsletter. Paintings are to be hand delivered to Morrison Gallery on
Tuesday October 1 between 1-5 p.m. Joyce also asked for a non-exhibiting volunteer to be on site the day
of judging to assist the judge in any way she requested. Nona Atkisson volunteered.
Members were reminded of the 41st annual Lincoln Days Art Show in Hodgenville, which is
scheduled to open on September 29. Application and official rules may be downloaded at
www.lincolndays.org/events/art-show.
It was announced that Juanita will serve as Guild Treasurer.
The business portion of the meeting concluded followed by a refreshment break. Members voted
on submitted paintings for Artist of the Month.
Joyce set up a still life for sketching or photographing that will be worked on and brought to the
October meeting to view and critique. The emphasis is on the importance of value in successful paintings.

Dear CKAG members,
This is for those members I failed to thank last month.
Mary Lou Hall—for direction in every department throughout the years.
Gail Bagwell—for being such a great co-chair for our annual art show.
Phyllis Blakeman—for picking up, taking, and returning pictures from Larue-Hardin County auction and
Lincoln Days events. Pictures never had a scratch.
Bob Hill and Bob Preston—Bob Hill gave a program on poetry/art and Bob Preston on new products in art
and gave everyone a new carrying case.
Debbye Hassell—an excellent 3-year president of CKAG, showing fairness, patients, understanding and…
Karl Hollenbach—for giving countless programs on art everytime when asked.
Thanks for your letters and calls. I hope to see you all.
Love,
Marty Hollenbach

Newsletter Title
Art is a family tradition that dates way back. It seemed like everyone in my family, including my mother, was an artist. Growing up I thought it was natural for everyone to have easels sitting in their homes. My very artistic uncle recently texted me that, through ancestry research, my aunt found that artists in my family date ack to 1619 when Otto Marseus van Schrieck of Amsterdam was born. His paintings and biography can be found on the Internet today and, while I am not a complete fan of his subject matter (I could do without the snakes and lizards), I do admire his fine skill as an artist. He also taught painting and had many students. With so much artistic influence in my family, especially watching my mother paint when I was a child, it only made sense that I would become an artist as well. So years ago, I developed a self-directed art education, studying books and taking classes, workshops and advanced ateliers with artists that were strong in ar-eas where I wanted to improve. Eventually I would develop my own style, but as it should be with all artists, my style is evolving. I am always studying, experimenting and hopefully improv-ing my skills as an artist. I am now an award-winning artist, teacher, and workshop instructor specializing in landscapes, cityscapes and portraiture. I teach several watercolor painting classes a week and conduct occasional workshops on portraiture and landscapes. I love being able to share my passion of creating art with others. Painting a variety of subjects keeps me inspired, but in all of my work capturing emotion and atmosphere is key. Without a story, mood or emotion—then what is a painting? Being an avid plein air painter, I belong to Brushes with Nature, a KWS Plein Air group. Painting on site, from life, has enabled me to add atmospheric elements to all of my paintings, including my studio portraits. A late bloomer to art shows and exhibits, I was thrilled to have my very first entry into the pres-tigious American Watercolor Society’s International exhibit accepted into their show in New York. I have also been accepted into the Southern Watercolor Society’s annual exhibition. Here in Kentucky, I am a juried member of the Kentucky Arts Council’s Kentucky Crafted program and the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen. I am also a member of the Kentucky Water-color Society, the Portrait Society of America, the National Watercolor Society, American Wa-tercolor Society, and other professional groups. I live in Louisville, Kentucky with my husband, daughter, and her service dog, who actually pre-fers people to wait on him! it’s a good life...i paint daily in my home studio and it doesn’t get any better than that!
