Volunteers who report daily precipitation totals submit their data directly to Bob Davis or Kristi Gardner (CORN). Data for gages with monthly totals only have been obtained from Scott Kirk at ODNR / Division of Soil and Water Resources.

Daily precipitation measurements shown on previous pages are typically taken from plastic rain gauges of at least 5-inch capacity. “Station I.D.” nomenclature is adapted from National Weather Service (NWS) procedure for naming Cooperative Observer stations.

The station is identified either by the nearest community or well-known landmark, along with a distance in miles, and direction from that community or landmark, if it exceeds approximately 1 mile. For example, Marion 2N represents a site that is approximately 2 miles north of the City of Marion. If no distance or direction is included with the station I.D., the station is located within the community, or less than 1 mile from the identified landmark.

Gage ID numbers from 201-216 and 301-308 represent volunteers whose gages are located outside of the 10-county area officially designated by the NWS as the “Central Ohio” climatic section. The “Central Ohio” area consists of Marion, Morrow, Union, Delaware, Licking, Madison, Franklin, Fairfield, Fayette and Pickaway Counties.

The CORN logo used on data recording sheet pads and CORN merchandise was designed by Steve Davies and digitized by Mike Moore.

Central Ohio Significant Storm Information for Month: June 18-21: Periods of showers and thunderstorms over these 4 days, with the heaviest rains falling from early evening on the 18th through the early morning of the 19th (about 1-2”), and again during the afternoon of the 20th (about 0.5-1.0”) for most of our volunteers. A total of 3-4” of rain over the 4-day period was reported by volunteers in extreme NE Franklin County, and at Sunbury, Utica, Apple Valley Lake, and near Buckeye Lake. June 23-26: Periods of rain and thunderstorms, some with torrential rains, with the most significant rains falling from the afternoon of the 23rd until early morning on the 25th. Total rainfall in the northern half of the network ranged anywhere from 1.0 to 6.0 inches, with the highest amounts reported in northern Franklin and southeastern Delaware County, especially near Sunbury. Flooding occurred in portions of these areas as a result of the heavy rains falling on saturated ground, with high water levels reported at Hoover Reservoir and Alum Creek Lake. Locally intense rains during the evening of the 24th created flooded roadways and underpasses during the evening of the 24th in portions of NW Franklin County. Miscellaneous:
