Happy 2020!
As the calendar turns over to a new year, we start thinking about what we did or didn’t do the past year.
Some of us will make resolutions or goals and others may spend their time in prayerful
meditation. With the help of Google here is a verse that can help us start a new year.
“Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”
--Luke 2:10-11 (ESV)
What better way exemplifies a new beginning than the birth of Jesus. My wish for each of you this year is that you will experience a new beginning. Your leadership team has set up a wonderful year of programs and activities for 2020. This
couldn’t be done without everyone’s help.
Here’s to new beginnings for our St. John’s United Methodist Women. Blessings, Shirley Channell Co-President

If we self-evaluate more often than every twelve months, maybe we would actually follow the goals we set. Goals are important: it gives one something to focus on. We all need focus: otherwise, we just go through the motions of our lives, with nothing to show for each 24-hour period except the passage of time. For myself, I think I will try to be more diligent with my daily prayers. If you really want to improve yourself, speaking regularly with your Creator is a great way to start. Remember to begin by thanking God for your blessings before you start on your requests. In tough times, this method will keep you sane; it good times, it will keep you happy. And in all times, it will keep you focused on God, which is where your focus should be anyway.
Blessings and Happy New Year,
Martha Arizpe
Hello All, By now, we are all in a post-Christmas glow. Presents have been opened, large quantities of food have been consumed, parties attended, friends and family hugged and kissed, waistbands expanded. We are now beginning our annual self-improvement phase, where we take stock of our lives. From my point of view, this is a good thing to do, although I think it should be done more often than once a year.

After an expressed desire by the male membership, steps were set to launch plans to re-charter the United Methodist Men of St. John’s. Planning meetings were scheduled in September, October and November to formalize the structured group. With Pastor Darren’s support, plans were laid to inaugurate the renewed charter in January. On January 13th, the United Methodist Men will hold their first meeting in the Family Life Center. One of the first order of business is ratify newly elected officers. The officer will be as follows:
President – Gene Lawhon
V- President - Monthly Programs - Dean May
V- President - Projects and Mission Work- Darren May
Secretary - Leon Henderson
Treasurer - Ricky Young
Advisor/Coordinator - Steve Stephenson
Chaplain - John Aleman
As men of faith, we share in the vision of John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist Movement in declaring "an intimate, an uninterrupted union with God; a constant communion with the Father and His Son Jesus Christ, through the Spirit; a continual enjoyment of the Holy Trinity, and of all the creatures in Him!" This mission will be based on serving Him and His through creating disciples of all men and transforming lives to the glory of God the Father, His son Jesus Christ and the Power of the Holy Spirit.
Subsequent meetings after the January meeting will be the 2nd Tuesday of every month in the Family Life Center.

Excerpt from Nan Merrill’s Psalm 119:
“Yes, Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path … When I am filled with fear, I meditate upon your light. I yearn to have every doubt and fear quelled and transformed; O, Heart of all hearts, bless me with your healing light that I may be a loving presence … When I meditate upon your light, my heart opens with compassion for all life. This is how the veil is lifted, how the soul is filled with truth and light.”
