IMPORTANT DATES

FOREWORD

Sahodaya School Complexes [SSC] which flagged off in the year

1986, is a voluntary association of schools in a given area, who

through mutual choices, have agreed to come together for a

systematic and system wide renewal of the total educational

process. The significance of Sahodaya is to rise together and to

share their innovative practices in the field of academic proce-

dures, pedagogy, evaluation, value oriented learning and profes-

sional growth for teachers. Through positive promotional efforts,

the Board has helped schools come together and form an interac-

tive and sharing relationship. It is indeed an interactive platform

for schools to deliberate upon the different policies and guidelines

of the Board and provide effective feedback on their implementa-

tion to establish new benchmarks of quality.

Central Travancore Sahodaya Complex(CTSC) established in

1995, is an association of CBSE schools in Central Kerala formu-

lated to organize various programmes useful for teachers & stu-

dents. CTSC is organizing Kalotsav for its member schools mainly

to identify and promote the inherent talents of the students and to

channelize them for the reformation of a virtuous society.

The motto of Sahodaya is ‘Caring and Sharing’

The CTSC Kalotsav Organizing Committee appointed by the

general body has designed this manual for the smooth conduct of

Inter School Youth Festival. The amendments made by the CTSC

Kalotsav Committee and approved by the general body have

been incorporated. It is mandatory for all the member schools to

adhere to the Manual strictly while preparing the students for the

competitions. Let‟s hope that this year‟s programmes and

competitions will be conducted in the most structured, worthy,

exceptional and zestful way.

Kalotsav Prelude

This will be the latest updated manual dated 05/08/2017. All other

manuals published earlier stands cancelled.

The competitions in various items are conducted under four categories

on the basis of the class to which a student belongs

For Individual items there are four categories

1. Category 1 - Class III &IV

2. Category 2 - Class V, VI and VII

3. Category 3 - Class VIII, IX and X

4. Category 4 - Class XI and XII

For Group Items

1. Juniors- (Category I&II)

2. Seniors- (Categories III & IV)

3. Common- (All categories together)

The term „Both‟ is used to designate :

Either Boy or Girl for Individual items

Boys alone/Girls alone/Both Boys and Girls together- for group

items

Any changes in the rules or additional information after the publication

of this manual will be intimated later. Much care is taken to make this

INSTRUCTIONAL manual for Kalotsav 2017 so that all information

regarding each item is put together for easy reference ,and repetition is

also avoided.

We hope that this hand book will be of great help if carefully read and

followed for the successful completion of our own CTSC Kalotsav2017.

express their multifaceted capabilities..Yes, helping them to realize

Kalotsav Action Plan

There will a General Convenor and two more Convenors to coor-

dinate the activities and arrangements related to CTSC Kalotsav

2017 which is decided to be held at three venues in four days

Only one participant/team from a school shall be allowed in each

item in the Sahodaya-level competition.

Two participants from each item in all categories shall be selected

from the Sahodaya-level, to participate in the State Kaloltsav. (In

the case of group items, first and second from each category shall

be permitted for State Level participation.)In cases where there is

only one participant for any item in CTSC Kalotsav, he/she will

be allowed to perform and can represent CTSC at State level.

The Mark sheets, Tabulation sheets, Result sheets etc shall be

kept in the safe custody of the General Convenor of the Sahodaya

Kalotsav and must be handed over to the General Secretary of the

Sahodaya after the Kalotsav.

CTSC will appoint a Coordinator for State Kalotsav .The General

Convenor of the Sahodaya Kalotsav along with the State Coordi-

nator shall prepare the list of winners of the first two places in

each item and forward to the General Convenor of the State

Kalotsav within four working days after the Sahodaya Kalotsav.

An organizing committee with following sub committees shall be

constituted for the purpose of conducting the Sahodaya Kalotsav

at three venues as follows.

All CTSC member Schools

should strictly follow this

Kalotsav Manual ‘17

for the smooth conduct of the

Kalotsav.

1. CTSC Registration: Participation in Youth Festival is re-

stricted to the registered member schools of the CTSC, who

have renewed the annual subscription for the year 2017-18.

2. Registration fee:

Secondary schools - Rs.5000/-

Senior Secondary School - Rs.6000/-

Participation fee shall be Rs. 150 per contestant per item

(individual/ group).

3. Mode of payment can be D/D taken in favour of treasurer,

CTSC payable at Ranni or by Cash handed over to the treasurer

in person or to whom he has entrusted. Receipt to be collected

on the same day.

4. Executive Committee:

a) The venue schools will organize the Kalotsav under the

supervision of the Executive Committee of the CTSC and

the cluster schools assigned for it.

b) The policy matters in the conduct of the Kalotsav will be

decided by the Executive Committee of the CTSC.

c) The various committees of the Kalotsav are accountable to

the Executive Committee of the CTSC.

d) Selection Committee for judges is appointed by the

Executive Committee and the name of committee members

will be kept confidential.

5. Kalotsav Committee :

1. Kalotsav committee comprises of CTSC Office bearers ,venue

school(s) Principal, Manager, Coordinator & other co-opted

principals of CTSC .

2. Kalotsav committee decides all internal matters pertaining to

the smooth conduct of kalotsav. (order of events, stages,

judges, guests, food and accommodation)

3. The Kalotsav committee is authorized to raise fund for the

expenses of the kalotsav as mentioned in the Budget.

4. The host school(s) shall raise funds through local

sponsorship also . Expenditure and other charges will be met

from the fund raised and the money collected through the

member schools.

5. Kalotsav committee can appoint a Program coordinator ( a

person with expertise in scheduling events and ensuring

smooth conduct of kalotsav).

6. Judges and Judgment

1. The judges selected must have the required qualification,

experience and clean past records.

2. Name and details of the judges should be kept secret

wherever necessary.

3. The qualifications and credentials of the judges shall be

announced on the stage after the completion of the item.

4. Every judge shall sign a declaration to the effect that none of

his/ her pupils or relatives are participating in that particular

item.

5. Once a competition is over, proper tabulation and checking

will be done before the announcement of results by the

verification committee. Immediate to the conclusion of an

item the next item will commence on stage even before the

official declaration of the result of previous item.

6. Final official publication of results will be made only after

getting no objection declaration from the appeal committee.

7. Appeal Committee:

1. Appeal committee comprises

a) One among CTSC President / Secretary / Treasurer

b) Venue Principal,

c) Kalotsav Co-ordinator .

2. In case the complaint is from the venue school, the president

shall have the power to nominate the Secretary or Treasurer

of CTSC to replace the venue school Principal.

3. Appeal can be filed by the participant through the Principal of

the school on remitting a fee of Rs1000/-within 30 minutes of

the announcement of the result by the judge.

4. The appeal shall clearly indicate the reasons for challenging

the decisions of the judges.

5. The appealer shall be given a chance to depose before the

Appeal Committee ,adduce and substantiate the claims

raised.

6. The Appeal Committee shall record the statement of the

judges and the objections raised in the appeal petition and

the reasons in defense of their decisions.

7. It shall be the duty of the Executive Committee to remind the

Appeal Committee of the famous dictum. “No litigant shall

leave the appeal committee room with the feeling that he/she

has not been fully heard”.

8. Prizes and Certificates

There will be No Ever Rolling trophy for highest scoring

Schools neither the category trophies this year.

• First, Second and third place winners will be given

certificates and medals.

Participation certificate will be given to all participants other

than the winners of first, second and third positions

Fixing of Grades

Grade A: 70% and above.

Grade B: 60% to 69%

Grade C: 50% to 59 % .

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

1. Each School must appoint a coordinator and submit the letter of au-

thorization by the school principal, to the Principal of the venue

school at the time of registration.

2. The school team along with the accompanying teachers should re-

port to the reception counter and receive instructions and guidelines,

immediately after their arrival at the venue school.

3. A class room is allotted to each school singly or for sharing with

another school.

4. Special Green Rooms are allotted for items which need changing of

dress.

5. Food coupons meant for a day will not be valid for the next day and

not refundable.

6. Distractions of any kind to the judges will be strictly prohibited.

7. Official Photographers are allowed to stay only behind the judges.

8. Official photography and printing facility will be arranged for performing

arts.

1. Identity proof mandatory for all participants. Students are not to a p -

pear in their school uniforms on stage.

2. For the items where back stage singing is allowed, singers shall be-

long to the same category and gender. In the case of common items

singers can be boys alone / girls alone / mixed.

3. In all competitions both stage performers and back stage performers

are eligible for certificates and prizes.

4. In the case of Thiruvathira, Margamkali and Oppana, both stage per-

formers and back stage performers shall wear the same costume and

make up.

5 For writing and drawing competitions, participants shall bring pen,

pencil, colour etc only paper shall be provided at the venue. The

subject / topic shall be decided by the judges.

To Participants

Online Registration Procedure.

1. Logon to http://www.travancoresahodaya.org.

2. Click on School Registration.

3. Login with your School username and password and complete regis-

tration .

4. After completion of registration crosscheck the list of participants

twice.

5. After validation of participant list finalize the data.

6. Participation fee to be remitted to CTSC will be displayed on

“Payment Details”.

7. Remit the participation fee to the Treasurer CTSC, on 19th October

2017 at Believers Church Residential School, Thiruvalla for getting

Candidate ID cards from the same venue .

Drawing, Painting and Cartoon.

The paper or canvas required shall be provided to the participants.

The theme or the topic shall be given by the judges at the venue.

The time allowed shall be 2 hrs. The participants shall bring

materials like pen, pencil, colours etc. A3 size paper will be

provided.

Value Points :

Drawing - Proportion, shading, neatness, imagination and beauty of

the strokes.

Painting - Ability in doing portraits and scenery, light and shade,

imagination, perception.

Cartoon : Clarity of the theme, sense of humor, uniqueness, beauty

of the strokes.

Poster Designing – (Time allowed: 2 hrs.)

a) There should be one Logo or Emblem created by the participant

based on the theme announced by the judges.

b) The poster design should be commercial nature.

c) Words or text not compulsory while designing, but if words are

used, it should be relevant to the theme.

d) The participants can use any media for designing (water colour,

poster colour, fabric colour, crayons or colour pencil can be used)

e) Cutting and pasting pictures not allowed. The design should be

purely done by the participants themselves.

f) Size of the design will be based on the paper distributed at the

time of competition.

g) Only paper will be provided for the competition, all other

materials necessary for the designing should be brought by the

participants. (A3 size paper)

h) Theme will be announced by the judges.

Subject composition , Creativity ,Visualization, Approach of

emblem and logo, Colour scheme

Collage Designing – (Time allowed : 2 hrs.) a) Waste magazine cuttings and newspapers can be used for collage

designing.

b) Size of the design will be based on the paper distributed at the

time of competition. (A3 size paper)

c) If needed water colour can be used for designing.

d) Only paper will be provided for competition, all other materials

necessary for designing should be brought by the participants.

e) Theme will be announced by the judges.

Value Points: Approach to subject, Recycled materials used, Neatness,

Creativity ,Colour scheme

Digital Painting: (Time allowed:30 min.)

a) Image size in MS Paint should not exceed as given below.

Width = 10 inches, Height = 7 inches, Resolution = 102 x 81

dots per inches.

b) No external images should be used. The images should be created

by the participants on the spot.

c) The file should be saved in JPEG file format. The file should be

saved in the folder named Digital Painting created on the desktop.

d) The file name should be participant‟s chest number. All other file

name will be considered as invalid entry.

e) Confirm the folder and check that your file is saved in the

specific folder before logging off. Organizers will not be

responsible for any lost file.

f) Text can be used to specify the theme, but the participants name

or other details should not be mentioned on the images created.

g) Theme will be announced by the judges.

Value points :

Clarity of theme ,Optimization of images (make the best use of im

age display quality), Synchronization of colour settings, Perception

(The way of seeing something so that they seem to have height,

width, depth and relative distance), Uniqueness.

PowerPoint Presentation. - (2 Participants, Time 1hr.+5min)

Time allowed: One hour for preparation and 5 minutes for presentation.

a) Number of slides and the topic will be announced at the time in

the venue

b) The file should be saved in the folder named Power Point

Presentation created on the desktop

c) The file name should be compulsorily participant‟s chest number.

All other file names will be considered as invalid entry.

d) Confirm the folder and check that your file is saved in the

specific folder before logging off. Organizers will not be responsible

for any lost file

e) The images needed for the slide will be provided in the folder

named Power Point Presentation created on the desktop. Choose the

appropriate images and backgrounds. MS PowerPoint 2007 version

onwards will be provided in the computer.

f) No CD or pen drive is permitted, and internet shall not be used.

Value points :

Clarity of the theme, In-depth knowledge of the topic given.

Appropriate animation and transition used, Appropriate use of

colour code and images, Suitable introduction and conclusion

Essay writing, Story writing and Poetry writing. The paper for writing shall be provided at the venue. Other

materials shall be brought by the competitors. Topics shall be

announced at the venue.

Value points :

Essay writing Suitable introduction and conclusion systematic and logical

arrangement of points, in-depth knowledge of the topic, flow of

language, grammatical correctness, correct spelling.

Story writing

Correct understanding of the theme, flow of language,

correct spelling.

Poetry writing: Rhythmic arrangement of words in poems,

Extempore/Elocution Time Limit, in-depth knowledge of the

topic, logical arrangement of points, flow of language, grammatical

correctness, appropriate poise gestures, facial expressions, voice

modulation, confidence. The topics for elocution shall be announced

in advance. For extempore, topic shall be announced at the stage.

Recitation Suitable facial expressions, imbibing the meaning and

message of the poem, clarity and correct pronunciation, appropriate

introduction and voice modulation. Only poems are allowed in

Recitation.

Anchoring- (Cat. III & IV -Time : 7 minutes – Single item)

Mode of conduct : A theme will be given 10 minutes before the

competition

a) Perform with ease and originality behind a microphone.

b) The subject matter will be based on any event which should be

anchored completely (Eg: Award meet, Film show etc.)

c) The participant should be able to speak continuously on the given

theme. There should be no gap in between.

d) Collar mike or cordless mike will be provided.

e) The participant can utilize the entire stage if necessary

f) Presentation should be entirely in English and within the time

limit.

g) Use your facial expressions correctly.

h) Modulate your voice appropriately.

i) Portray your personality at its best.

Light Music Film Songs, albumsongs or Devotional songs shall not be

allowed.

Value Points : Sangeetha Njaanam, Shaareeram, Sruthilayam, Njana

Classical Music Shruti box can be used in classical music. Any „Raga‟ can be

sung.

Value Points : Shaareeram, Sruthilayam, Njaana bhavam, Bhava

Shudhdhi, Thaalam, Manodharmam.

Mappilapattu

In Mappilapattu film songs shall not be allowed.

Group Song Only Malayalam songs shall be allowed. Number of participants

shall be 7. No Musical Instruments shall be allowed except

Shruthi Box.

Value Points : Harmony Rhythm, Tune, Njaana bhavam, Group

Singing, Sangeetha Njanam, Sareeram, Sruthilayam, Shabda Shudh-

dhi, Thaalam.

Patriotic Song (Cat 1- 4 Common )

Malayalam, Hindi or English songs shall be allowed.

Should be related to the theme of national integration. No

musical instrument other than Shruti box will be allowed.

Western Music

Common group item- No category and

no gender separation.

a) Songs can be of any pure western genre. No fusion allowed.

b) Each team shall have maximum of 8 people in which 3 should be

singers.

c) Interchange of persons are allowed after the completion of a

song

d) Devotional / Gospel songs are not allowed.

e) The members of the orchestra can also provide vocal support.

f) A total of 7 minutes is allocated to each team to perform.

g) All the instruments except keyboard and drum set will have to be

brought by the participating team.

h) Keyboard used should be played live. No earlier sequencing &

feeding are allowed.

i) Use of floppy disk & memory card is banned.

j) A total of 6 microphones and 4 instrument ports will be provided.

k) Guitar can be of any type (Electrical or Ordinary). Synthesizer

and Distortion can be used to give more effect, which shall be

brought by the participants. But no additional plug point allowed.

Even without these, teams can perform. Organizers shall arrange for

a technical person for general setting. Other settings and tuning , if

any, shall be done by the participants only.

l) Trainers or any other technicians other than participants will not

be al lowed on the stage before and after the performance.

2. Interpretation of style, approach to using unusual chord progres-

sions in the chorus, the alternation between major and minor

chords, the conflict in the lyrics.

veloping technique drumming technique, guitar solo with fluid

accuracy and articulation. Pitch in vocals - flat/ sharp.

CDs shall be handed over to the stage manager 10 minutes before

Oppana:

There shall be 10 participants (three singers and seven

performers). No background music shall be allowed. Only girls can

participate. Time : 10 minutes.

Thiruvathira:

There shall be 10 participants (2 singers and 8 performers).

Nilavilaku and Nirapara will be provided at the venue.

Only girls can participate. Time : 10 minutes.

Group Dance:

7 participants shall be allowed. Time : 10 minutes.

Folk Dance

Aakara Sushama, Bhava Prakadanam, Thaalam, Mudra, Chalana

Thiruvathira Costume : (Traditional Kerala Dress preferably Kasavuset)

Originality of the item, Chalanam, Thaalam, Steps. Time : 10

minutes.

Group Dance Harmony between the performers, dress, movement, rhythm,

presentation. Time : 10 minutes.

Margamkali Traditional costume is necessary. Kuzhithaalam (Cheriya

Ilathaalam) can be used in singing. No background music. Only

girls can participate. (6+1) members. Nilavilaku will be provided at

the venue. Time : 10 minutes.

Value Points : Veshathanima, thaalam, steps, music and clarity of

singing, presentation.

Duffmutt Arab byth or Mahath Pattukal only shall be used. The expressions

are of Veeram, Roudram, Bhayananakam, Bakthi and Unmaadham.

Only boys shall participate. (10 participants) Time : 10 minutes.

Value Points Correct rhythmic singing, expressions, dress.

Mono Act Time allowed - 5 min. Common for boys and girls.

Quiz

A team shall consist of maximum two individual.

The decision of the quiz-master will be final and will not be subjected

to any change.

Each team would be given a set of question paper containing 25

multiple choice objective type questions in preliminary round

Time limit - 15 minutes

Only 6 Teams would be selected for STAGE ROUNDS

In case of tie between 2 or more teams, further 5 questions would

be asked for final selection

The selected teams shall have to appear for the final round.

Quiz for categories 3 and 4 will be con-

ducted separately.

1. CTSC shall be the only official body to decide up on all matters re-

garding the Sahodaya Kalotsav.

2. The venue school(s) shall abide by the rules & regulations of the

CTSC Kalotsav.

3. Banners, posters, arches and other hoardings for the publicity of the

Sahodaya Kalotsav shall bear the name of the CTSC prominently.

4. All the stages shall display banners with the name of CTSC .

5. An office room shall be provided for the Sahodaya officials at the

venue school. They shall have the provision to use the facilities

available in the school with the permission of the concerned authori-

ties.

6. Food and accommodation of the Sahodaya Kalotsav Committee and

the judges shall be arranged by the Venue School.

7. The President of the Sahodaya shall preside over all the meetings.

The details of the programme with regard to the Kalotsav shall be

fixed in consultation with the Sahodaya officials.

8. The President and the Secretary of the Sahodaya shall be accorded

prominence in the functions.

9. Special seats shall be reserved for Managers and Principals of all

schools of CTSC in the Public Meetings.

10. On completion of the Kalotsav, all details and records are to be

handed over to the secretary of the Sahodaya.

10. A separate file shall be maintained for all the paper works regarding

the Kalotsav. This shall be submitted to the Secretary along with the

photographs of the function.

11. Proper communication shall be maintained with the Sahodaya offi-

cials with regard to the progress and proceedings, before, during and

after the Kalotsav.

12. The Sahodaya Kalotsav is a prestigious programme involving all the

CBSE schools in Central Travancore. Hence every attempt shall be

made to make it grand, colorful and successful.

13. The Sahodaya members shall extend all possible help, support and

guidance to ensure that the venue school gets all the publicity,

popularity and fame for hosting this mega event.
