Objective: To provide information on how a centripetal governor works and why it is important

How It Works

• Centripetal Governor is linked to the camshaft

• Once a certain speed is reached, centripetal force activates the governor

• Rotating weights are pushed out which lets off on the throttle

• The engine slows to a safe speed

Why They are Needed• Used to maintain engine speed• Necessary so that the engine

doesn’t run itself to death

Why it’s Made of Plastic

• Possibly because there is less friction between steel on plastic than steel on steel

• Plastic is also lighter than steel

Conclusion• Governors are very important

to maintaining an efficient engine

• Important in preserving the life of an engine
