Glimpses of the Budget – Ashes Nandi

The hustle-bustle of our daily activities often rob us the time to obtain the information that are so essential for us. This document is an attempt to provide us the relevant informations that need to deserve your attention for the FY 2018 --

• 100% tax deduction is allowed to co-operative societies

• Long term capital gains exceeding Rs.1 lakh will be taxed at 10% without indexing

• Short term capital tax remains at 15%

• Education cess increased to 4% from 3%

• Govt. makes PAN mandatory for any entity en-tering into a financial transaction of Rs.2.5 lakh or more.

• Customs Duty on certain products, such as mo-bile phones and televisions has been increased, to provide a fillip to ‘Make in India’

• Solar tempered import for manufacture of solar cells exempted from customs duty

• Social welfare surcharge of 10% on imported goods

• Central Board of Excise and Customs renamed as Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs .

• Rs.3794 crore allocated to the MSME sector in the form of capital support and interest subsidy By 2022.

•Out of 100 smart cities 99 cities have been selec-ted, with an outlay of Rs.2.04 lakh crore.

• Govt. will evolve a scheme to assign a Unique ID for companies like Aadhar

• National Insurance Co, Oriental Insu-rance Co and United Assurance Co to be merged into one entity and subsequently listed.

On the personal income tax front --

• No change in income tax slabs for individuals

• Cess on income tax hiked to 4% from 3% increasing the liability of tax payers.

• A standard deduction of Rs.40000 is allowed from salary income to employees in lieu of transport (Rs.19200) and medical (Rs.15000) allowances, the salaried won’t benefit much. Companies can restruc-ture the CTC format by showing the pay-out for Trans-port and medical as an allowance in any desired form.

• Women joining the workforce for the FIRST TIME will have to contribute only 8% instead of 12% or 10% as the case may be, for the first three years. The proposed move will enhance their take-home pay. Further, for new employees coming under the ambit of EPFO would be provided 12 percent contribution from the government.

• The limit of deduction under section 80 D for senior citizens has been hiked from Rs.30000 to Rs.50000 to incentivise senior citizens to get sufficient medical coverage.

• Exemption on the interest income on bank and post office deposits for senior citizens is hiked from Rs.10000 to Rs.50000. This is for all FDs and RDs.

P-

Union Budget 2018 was significant for several reasons. First, this is the first post-GST budget, & secondly, it is the last full-fledged budget ahead of 2019 general election.

It reintroduced standard deduction, gave senior citizens a few reasons to cheer, and increased take home pay of women in the workforce. It took away the medical and travel allowances of the salaried class, intro-duced long-term capital gains tax on equity, and even hiked the cess one pays on income tax.

The impact of union budget on FEI operation is huge. Union Budget 2018 came up with some changes in the New Taxes & Duty Structure of the imports from 1st Feb 2018. The major impact is on imported items from Japan, Thailand, France and Korea. Impact is seen on all imported products which are either sold in trading activity or used in manufacturing of finished goods and used in project for Panel Building. Hence any changes in the duties or Tax structures is directly proportional to the cost of the imported goods.

There are two major changes in import duties for automation related business which are: -

Changes in the Basic Custom Duty (BCD) for VFD’s

Eradicate Cess (i.e. Education Cess 2% on BCD & Higher Education Cess 1% on BCD) and introduction of Social Welfare Surcharge (SWS) which is now 10% on BCD.

We urge channel partners to take a note of the same and plan your business accordingly to avoid the sur-prises on our new price list or the discount structure.

There is a famous quote “When it rains look for rainbows, when it’s dark look for stars” and we found our stars in the form of Inditech, Mabara, Eletech, DSA, M.V. Engineers, Galaxy Engineers, who with their newly deve-loped motherboard could provide the features that were provided by Chinese Integrated drives. FEI, strongly supported their cause & provided a fitting reply to the Chinese manufacturer.

DMG SPA, FEE’s lift alliance partner in Europe made a strong entry in International Elevator and Escalator Ex-hibition @ Mumbai in Feb’18 with their Unified lift solution with Fuji Electric Frenic Lift drives. They demons-trated an unified solution even for the geared lift @ a cost-effective price for the developing countries.

The effects of FEI’s Lift vertical strategy & efforts unveiled in the Exhibition 2018 where FEI collaborated with Controller manufacturers & not direct participation was FE Drives maximum visibility. Lot of overseas visitors from Italy, Iran, Bangladesh, Japan, Turkey and even from China visited our partners stall with trade enquiries.

FEI has bounced back with appropriate product & strategy to arrest the slight fall in it’s market share .

Though, these corrective measures were necessary for the governance & efficacy for the overall economy, but due to the new learning & mood swings, lift market went sluggish. Leaving aside the sluggish market, FEI faced the sudden onslaught from the suppliers of integrated controller VVF drives from China @ a very challenging price.

Indian Real estate market in 17-18 had to live in a new environment due to --

1. Demonetization

2. Slowdown in real estate due to Real Estate Regulatory Authority Bill,

3. GST learning &

4. Many other extraneous factors.

Mabara’s Integrated

Solution with Frenic lift -

Subhrit ShyamalIntegrated controller (dis-

tance-based drives-kit) made it’s ap-pearance in India market from year 15-16 &

threatened the very existence of indigenous controller ma-nufactures. Realizing the potential threat, the technocrat led company Mabara collaborated with FEI to develop the winning combination of their controller with Frenic Lift.

The offered features are -- 1 .Direct landing performance with ‘Zero Speed’ feature.

2. No tuning of drive required. No time wastage by referring to the drive manual.

3. All calibrations are done by the Mabara controller auto-matically.

4. Optimized elevator operation speed with no feeling of ac-celeration and deceleration jerk.

4. Mabara’s controller can adapt to the drive’s parameters by self-learning the lift Dyna-mics, Drive Latency, Motor Parameters & Shaft Frictional Values.

6. Interface to standard drives with ‘Mabara Intelligent Direct Landing Software’ brings down the cost by 25 to 30% compared to the integrated drives.

We thank Mabara to select FE drives to make the winning combination. Mabara’s first direct landing controller is ready to roar & challenge the dragon!

Forecasting is a tool which helps management in its attempt to cope up with the uncertainty of the future, relying mainly on the data which is recorded from Sales Trend, Customer Information & Sales Plan.

We @ FEI, are dependent on stock/inventory inflow from Japan & Thailand. The lead time for any product is almost three months & one month is the tran-sit time to reach FEI warehouse. Hence, we start our planning & forecasting five months in advance, as per the sales trend & the forecast from the sales team & our OEM’s. Coupled with the traded stock, we need to plan for our components for manufacturing .We plan to maintain the safety stock level of 1.5 months.

Hence it’s imperative for all stakeholders to contribute towards the data. We urge all our CP’s to be proactive in terms of improving the supply chain. This will help us to be effective & reduce the unnecessary cost incurred in air freighting the material.

The complex forecasting model & it’s ramifications on a firm’s efficacy & competitiveness as prescribed in text books is given below. The first step lies with the person who serves the customer & is res-ponsible for their satisfaction. Hence, seek your extra efforts to forecast rightly & in time.

Biogas is one of the viable alternatives to the burning Green earth question. About 20,700 lakh cubic meters of Biogas is produced in the INDIA which is equivalent to 5% of the total LPG consumption in the country. Biogas is a mixture of methane and carbon dioxide with a few other com-ponents. It is used for the production of heat, electricity or biofuel. A family type biogas plant generates biogas from or-ganic substances such as cattle –dung, and other bio-degradable materials such as biomass from farms, gardens, kitchens and night soil wastes etc. It provides clean gaseous fuel for cooking and lighting.

FE is a significant player in the Bio Gas environment with it’s state of the art products. Our ZPAF analyser, simultaneously and continuously measure the concentration of CH4, CO2, H2S and O2 components in the biogas. CH4 and CO2 are measured by non-dispersive infrared method (NDIR), O2 by electrochemical fuel cell method and H2S by constant-potential electrolytic method. H2S measure-ment range is up to 5000 ppm. It is mainly used in landfill site, waste storage site, gas treatment biogas digesters and fermenters, sewage treatment plants and laboratories.

It’s unique features are very high sensitivity, easy maintenance & easy measurement method using an adapted single beam, compact and lightweight, 19” Rack mounted, automatic calibration, atmospheric pressure correction, alarms for upper/lower limit concentration, remote input for swit-ching range.

ZPAF biogas analyzer can be integrated to the ZPSB Biogas Analysis System. This full cabinet allows reliable, robust and efficient biogas and H2S measurement up to high content.

ZPAF and ZPSB measurement gas components and measurement ranges are -

CH4 0-20% vol. to 0-100% vol. NDIR

CO2 0-20% vol. to 0-100% vol. NDIR

O2 0-10% vol. to 0-25% vol. Electrochemical fuel cell

H2S 0-500 ppm to 0-5000 ppm Constant potential electrolytic sensor

We are pleased to share improved service response time of CSC for our Channel Partners. CSC introduced a daily monitoring of Ser-vice pending cases through dashboard to monitor daily inwards and outwards movement from service centre. Our target is to accomplish com-plete failure analysis within 7 days from the date of receipt of material. First chart indicates the failure analysis response time of D&A products. It shows the number of cases registered every month and number of days it took to accomplish the task. Feb 2018 CSC improved it’s performance to complete checking and repair cases within 7 days. Key reason for this achievement was because of daily monitoring of Dashboard and work allocation to engineers.

We have also introduced a system to track complete closure of the cases: At the starting of this system, we found that it was taking more than 30 days for complete closure of the case (from the date of receipt of the material to the date of dispatch). Now we are monitoring and taking complete control on supply chain activities for Service department and we would able to close the same within 15 days after our fai-lure analysis.

Our attempt in the new fiscal will be to bring it down to 10 days.
