Technology Corner – ceqonline We’ve listened to your feedback regarding the lapsing of renewal quotes on the day of expiry. Even if a quote was edited on the date of renewal it was still referring before an agent could apply cover.

We have now updated the process so that a renewal quote will remain open for 5 days after the renewal date*. This means that no referral is required and the renewal can be accepted with minimum fuss helping to make working with us that little bit easier.

In addition, to help support your renewal retention we have also introduced a new renewal reminder email that will be sent to you 5 days prior to renewal for all Property Owner’s, SME and Liability policies.

Please note however that cover can only commence from the day the renewal is processed. If there has been a gap since expiry we are not able to backdate. Renewals

IMPORTANT date for the diary – 1st April 2012 Businesses will need to provide an ERN to get Employer’s Liability cover The insurance industry has taken proactive steps to help people who have suffered an injury or a disease at work to identify the relevant insurer quickly.

By updating the antiquated practice of keeping Employer’s Liability Insurance, the Employer’s Liability Tracing Office can assure that claims can be resolved quicker and more efficiently than before.

With effect from 1st April 2012 it will be compulsory for any new policy or renewal to be recorded in the Employer’s Liability Database (ELD). The ELD will contain all information relating to a Policyholder and all their subsidiaries covered by the Employ Liability policy. The ELD was set up with the hope of enabling policyholders and claimants to trace the correct insurer more easily.

The database will work by linking policies with the policyholders Employer’s Reference Number (ERN), also known as the Pay As You Earn (PAYE) number. The ERN is a unique reference, issued by HM Revenue and Customs and is normally used for tax purposes.

All businesses in the UK are required to have the ERN if it employs one or more people and it will be a legal requirement to produce the ERN when purchasing Employer’s Liability Insurance from April 2012. Without it, businesses cannot get Employer’s Liability cover.
