    Cerberus guides the user through complex configuration and job design tasks with the help ofnumerous Wizards. Stepping the user through key decisions in a logical and intelligent sequence,

     these software tools present choices based on previous selections. Cable and tool selections aremade from pre-defined databases, while electronic survey data can be imported from external filesor spreadsheets.

    Cerberus results can be presented several ways, with varying degrees of complexity. The SurfaceWeight vs. Depth often provides a quick assessment of the job feasibility. Problems like cablecompression during RIH or overpull while POOH are clearly flagged. Other impor tant graphs includemaximum pull capability (for fishing or freeing a stuck tool), stretch (for depth corrections), and

     tractor pull requirements. All these results are captured in the Cerberus Wireline Report.

     Tool Deployment Modeling for Wireline and Slickline Operations

    Overview 

    Cerberus for Wireline is unique software for planning the deployment of cable-

    conveyed tools, especially in highly deviated or complex trajectory wells, by

    modeling the cumulative mechanical and hydraulic forces to ensure the target

    depth can be reached, the job performed, and the tools returned to surface

    safely and efficiently with the chosen equipment.

    First introduced in 1999, Cerberus for Wireline is relied upon by service

    companies and operators worldwide for planning and performing logging,

    perforating, and slickline operations in open and cased hole.

    Question and Answer Wizard

    Selecting the Toolstring is concerned with the tool configuration andweak point selection, including the effect of knuckle joints,centralizers and rollers on your ability to navigate doglegs andrestrictions in the well.

    Getting Into and Out of the Well addresses the fundamental issue ofwhether the chosen toolstring can reach the required depth, especiallyin a deviated or flowing well, and be retrieved safely to surface once

     the job is complete.

    Performing the Job At Depth ensures that, once downhole, you havesufficient maneuvering room to perform the job or deal withcontingencies. For example, how much tension can you pull atsurface if you get stuck or need to fish, or how much risk is there offlow pushing the tools uphole after perforating.

    Other Calculations includes modeling for stuck tools and extendedreach, as well as reporting and sensitivity analysis tools.

    The Q&A Wizard, especially helpful to new or infrequent users, provides access to the most impor tant calculations. Just click on questions, such as "Can I reach the target depth and return to surface safely? or "What production flow rate would prevent the tools getting downhole?." Available questions change depending onconveyance method. Examples shown here are for wireline applications.

    Surface vs. Weight Graph

    Overpull: Change of surface weight between pulling out of holenormally and breaking the weak point. A large overpull is desirable.

    Compression: Indicates the cable tension is too low, and youcannot go beyond this depth.

    Measured Data: Plot measured data forcomparison with model predictions.

    Drum Crush Warning: POOH tension issignificantly greater than RIH tension, risk ofdrum crush and torque damage to the cable.

    Weak Point: Surface weight range in which weakpoint will break.

    Surface Weight (RIH and POOH): Predicted surfaceweight when running in and pulling out of hole.

    Maximum Weight: Surface weight at which cable tension reaches its working limit.

    Hydraulics Calculations: For cased hole applications the modelconsiders hydraulic as well as mechanical forces, so Cerberus canprovide warnings if shear drag might prevent the toolstring fromgetting downhole past existing production, or if flow af ter perforatingmay push the guns uphole and damage the cable. Understanding thedifferent forces in play can be important, especially for marginalscenarios. If the problem is primarily flow-related, adding tool weightor reducing the flow at the wellhead may be the solution. If the problemis mainly drag, then rollers or friction reducing fluids may help. Thesensitivity analysis wizard allows comparison of different optionsside-by-side, to see if the job can be performed within acceptablemargins of risk.

    Toolfit Wizard (BHA Analysis):  This feature can answer basicgeometry questions, such as what size tool will pass a given doglegwithout bending, but it can also solve advanced engineering problemsinvolving bending of complex tool configurations, taking into accountthe effect of knuckle joints and centralizers. Using "stiff string"modeling methods and finite element analysis developed by CTES,this feature is used to design large BHAs like directional drillingassemblies, but can also be used to model wireline-conveyed loggingtools, casing guns, and so on. Results are sometimes counter-intuitive for example, using knuckle joints may make it more difficult

    to navigate a bend, not easier.

    Cable Tension Wizard:  Large tension differentials on the drumduring spooling, a potential source of drum crush and torque damage,can be anticipated by modeling the cable tension and its distributionon the drum following a sequence of jobs. The cable can then be pre-tensioned accordingly, or a powered sheave allocate for the job. Thisunique feature can be invaluable for planning operations in the deep,highly deviated wells frequently encountered today, where tensionscan approach the working limits of the cable and spooling equipment.

    Weak Point: Engineers tend to underestimate the higher forcesencountered in a deviated well, making it all too easy to choose thewrong weak point for the job, with potentially catastrophic results.Cerberus includes a design wizard to help select the optimum weakpoint rating sufficiently low that it will activate before the cableworking limit is reached, should it be necessary to pull free, butsufficiently high that increased drag does not cause it to activateunintentionally in normal running conditions.

    Stuck Point:  If the cable or tools are stuck, Cerberus can estimatethe stuck depth based on a pull test, wherein the amount of stretch ismeasured as the surface pull is increased. Unlike conventionalstretch charts, which are applicable only for vertical wells, Cerberustakes into account the additional drag caused by well deviation,yielding a much more accurate answer.

     type, such as "Reaching Depth," "Working at Depth," and "Contingencies." Each isassigned a status level based on criteria that is controlled by the end user.The reports are designed to do the following:

    indicate the task can be performed within the specified limits

    caution that the task can be performed but may require special attention

    warn that the task most likely cannot be performed

    report the result without warnings or caution
