PIPEWORK TO SUIT ALL LOCATIONSGarrandale has used its many years of experience todevelop pipework systems for all locations, whetherthey are buried below ground or at high level. Ourdesigns take into account the varying climates the systemwill be subject to and incorporate unique solutions tosupport the pipework, cope with expansion andcontraction and reduce installation time on site.

RINSING AND SIGHT GLASSESTo ensure the effectiveness of our CET systems, we haveused our knowledge of designing CET tanks to incorporaterinse function for rolling stock that does not have aseparate rinse connection, which helps to ensure that thelevel probes inside the CET holding tank do not become‘ragged up’, giving false readings and locking out the toiletdoors. Another useful addition is a sight glass whichenables the operator to see when the operation hascompleted which negates the need for constant monitoring.

WATER SYSTEMSMost CET aprons are also used for filling the train watertanks; doing this safely and in compliance with the waterregulations is an area where Garrandale is often called onfor advice prior to implementation. The mixing of rinsewater, tanking water and potable water in one area callsfor experience and understanding of the waterregulations, in order to reduce risks to health fromcross-contamination and backflow.

SUSPENDED HOSE SYSTEM Garrandale has also developed a number of unique andinnovative solutions to address the issue of trippinghazards on CET servicing aprons caused by hoses lying onthe ground, ranging from simple hooks to the SuspendedHose System.

The Suspended Hose System is suitable for all pipeworkinstallation types and can be tailored to suit a wide varietyof requirements, including manual and automatic CETs. It works by automatically retracting the suction hose afteruse, ensuring that the only hoses that are in contact withthe apron are those that are actually in use. There is awide variety of options available, including a stand-alonesystem with a lowerable post for low-level maintenance, a trolley system for greater coverage area and solutionswhich can be fixed to existing support posts.

Garrandale’s new High-Level Hose CET unit representsthe next generation of train servicing equipment, takingoperation to a new level. The design provides aconvenient and compact footprint to the problem ofhose stowage. This unit is only 350mm wide including themast providing minimal obstruction on any apron.The mast itself can be raised and lowered very easilyfor maintenance purposes requiring no special tools.In addition, a unique application of trace heatingtechnology heats the flexible water pipes from the insidepreventing freezing of the exposed pipes. This equipmentcan be configured for a variety of situations requiringflexible hose delivery of fluids. The unit shown has twinpipes to give CET suction and rinsing water at the left-hand side as viewed. On the right-hand side there is bothtanking water and potable water and all hoses haveindividual disinfectant pots. CET systems are configuredwith easy-to-use touch-screen control panels allowingspecific programmes for every type of train. Theprogramme can be based on the number of toilets on thetrain, litres required for discharge-flushing-charge andbiocide mixture.

IMPROVING HYGIENEControlled Emission Toilets (CET) have been fitted asstandard into rolling stock built after 1988 and havevastly improved the hygiene on the railwayinfrastructure, allowing for the safe removal of bio-hazardwaste from the train. As toilet facilities on trains can becostly to maintain and are often ranked low in passengersatisfaction surveys, we understand the need of theindustry to improve the standards of hygiene on trainsand offer a range of CET tanks for both new and retrofitapplications.

NEW BUILDOur range of CET tanks for new rolling stock is extensiveand incorporates all of the very latest technologyincluding level probes and heaters. Each tank can becustom designed and tailored for compatibility with therolling stock to ensure improved functionality andreliability throughout its service life.

RETROFITMany train operators have rolling stock fleet which wasbuilt before 1988 and, as a result, they are now facedwith the problem of retrofitting Controlled EmissionToilets into a fleet which was never designed to have thisfeature. Garrandale therefore offers a full retrofit serviceof CET tanks, working with each individual train operatorto design and manufacture a solution which will stand upto the rigorous demands placed upon them.
