Overview of Stockopoly

Basic rules of the game

• Number of players: 2-4, and 1 banker

• Age: 12 & above

• Calculators are required

• Start-up capital: $100,000 cash or $100,000 worth of stocks

• For any transaction, players can round up to the nearest $1,000

• Players must start the game by rolling a SINGLE dice and move his/her token

• Players have to calculate value of their stocks and bonds whenever required. For example, i a player lands on a square that states "Stocks down by 20%", he/she will then have to calculate the value of the stocks an record it in their Value Chart.

Investments

• Investment refers to STOCKS, BONDS, PROPERTY. They allow players to have capital appreciation or depreciation and dividend. Players can choose to purchase the investment at any point in time. However, they will miss a turn

Stocks

• Stocks: Players can choose between a variety of stocks. Each category of stocks has a different cost and dividend payout. Stocks can be bought again during the game at the cost price listed on appendix 1. Also, stocks can be sold in exchange for CASH only at its current value respective to each player. Lastly, dividends are paid out every 10 squares.

Bonds

• Bonds: All bonds have a maturity of 20 squares, after it matures, players will be paid the interest and have their initial investment returned in full cash. Bonds cannot be sold at all. When purchasing junk bonds, players must take note that they might become worthless during the course of the game.

Property

• Property: Players can purchase property to hedge against the fluctuations in stock market. Property value will remain constant till the end of the game and it will be sold at its purchase price unless players receive a bonus card where property can be sold at a higher value. However, it is sold at 20% loss at any time of the game. Also, returns are paid out every 20 squares.

Chance

• When a player lands on a chance square he/she must answer a question. If answered correctly, he/she will receive a bonus card.

Additional information

• A bonus card can be used to avoid dips in share prices, missing turns, dropping back boxes

• Bonus card can be traded for $25000 cash at any time of the game

How do you record the changes in valuation and purchase sheet?

• Player A decides to purchase $50000 Finance and $50000 Commodities stocks.

• Player A lands on square 8 – All stocks appreciate by 20%

• At square 10 dividends from stock is paid out based on latest market price. Player A also decides to purchase AAA Bonds.

• Player decides to buy another $10000 worth of finance stocks.

• At square 10 dividends from stock is paid out based on latest market price.

• At square 30 AAA bonds mature and coupon is paid out.

• At square 81 Player A has finished the game. Player A has to calculate the total dividend received and the current value of his/her stock holdings. Numbers are rounded up to the nearest thousand
