CONTAINER FREIGHT STATIONS AND ICDS
CFS are not a new phenomenon in the maritime industry!
In shipping glossary terms a container freight stationrepresents an area designated by a carrier to load orunload goods from containers.
In the EACA a CFS is referred to as an InternalContainer "epot!
In ombasa for the port community a CFS representsany facility that can act as a secondary customsclearance point for cargo some located within the port#$% sheds& and others located some distance awayfrom the port.

CONTAINER FREIGHT STATIONS AND ICDS
Ideally all these facilities pro(ide relief to portoperations away from the ship)land interfacearea hence the logic that they should be
remo(ed some distance from the *uay andtemporary stac+ing areas . ,he correctterminology should therefore be InlandContainer "epots #IC"s&.

CFS IMPACT ON PORT EFFICIENCY
/ey performance indicators ha(e shown a positi(e trendsince 299> and ha(e helped to stabili8e port operations.
2912 is a uni*ue year considering all the de(elopmentacti(ity that was underta+en by the port that had the eJectof reducing the operating capacity.
%ort still not utili8ing the a(ailable CFS capacity. ,heremore scope to use fully the e=isting CFS capacity.
