Chai-Lites Chai-Lites November 2017 Issue 15 Would you spend 5 minutes a day to keep Congregation B’nai Israel a thriving synagogue? I trust that all of you would answer “yes”. Wonderful! Five minutes a day equals two and a half hours a month! How could you spend that time? Have lunch with the Rabbi to discuss Intermarriage (11/4, 12/2, or 1/6) Organize a pre-Friday night service wine & cheese gathering Make a meal for a battered women’s shelter Stop by Saturday @ 9:30 for a half hour, to support those who need to say Kaddish Have a conversation with a prospective member Give blood, donate clean used coats, and make Thanksgiving tables fuller – November Cook a meal for seniors to be served by our 7 th graders – December Attend a Friday night service with a speaker Be a Friday night speaker! Learn to play Mah Jong The list of ways to engage is almost endless – your five minutes a day can go a long ways! And as Mahatma Gandhi said, “Action expresses priorities”. Not sure how to get started? Have an idea that you haven’t seen yet? Just email us at [email protected] -- and let us know how you’d like to spend your time. We’d love to work with you, partnering you with others who want to spend their time that way too! I look forward to hearing from you soon! Anne

Chaverim BBYO had a great time at some of our fall events!

Scavenger Hunt Rush Event! (1:00 pm to 3:00 pm @ Camp Harmony September 17) This rush event was both an informative and interactive event! Participants had the opportunity to learn a lot about bbyo while engaging in fun activities. There were also opportunities to sit down, eat, and meet new people. Overall, it was a fun-filled day! Silverball Museum Trip (2:00 pm to 6:00 pm @ Asbury Park Boardwalk)

This event took place on September 24, and consisted of a fun filled day with arcade games and boardwalk fun! This regional event allowed teens to meet others from different chapters and allowed them to reunite with old friends! Come join the fun at our upcoming

events!

• Chapter Meeting – November 6, 6:45 – 8:30 pm at CBI • Pink and White Dance – November 18, 7 – 10 pm, Temple Emanuel,

Woodcliff Lake, $36.00, click here to register http://bbyo.org/region/gjhrr/. Carpools can be arranged

• Chapter Meeting – November 20, 6:45 – 8:30 pm at CBI

For more information, contact chapter president Maya Zucker, [email protected] or chapter advisor Janice Zucker, [email protected], 908-963-5357

I wanted to introduce you to a new Jewish youth group in our area for 6th, 7th and 8th grades.

It started recently by a dear friend of mine at Har Shalom and we are hoping along with other congregations, this will be

a place where kids of pre-BBYO age can hang out with their friends doing fun stuff.

There’s no fee to join and you can come to whatever you want when-ever you want. Bring other Jewish friends-everyone is welcome re-

gardless of synagogue or temple affiliation! The events will be held at assorted places, maybe even at CBI.

Some things require an rsvp for space and some things may have a small cost but they will all be fun and current.

The first event was Fraps and Football. There were 20 jewish Tweens from the area and

I understand it was a ton of fun, enjoying Frappacinos while watching football with friends.
