3 Overview Now in its 11th year, Delta’s Chairman’s Club is designed to be the most prestigious corporate recognition a Delta employee can receive. Each year, the Club inducts 102 new members (100 Delta and 2 Delta Technology), nominated by their peers and validated by Delta leaders. The Chairman's Club recognizes employees who consistently demonstrate extreme dedication and determination to the highest standards of service to our customers, co-workers, and communities we serve.

Eligibility All active Delta Air Lines employees, excluding officers and directors, are eligible for Chairman’s Club nomination. Nominees should be high performers in every area of their jobs. Former Chairman’s Club honorees are not eligible. If a Chairman's Club honoree is no longer employed by Delta at the time of the Chairman's Club event (excluding retirement), then such honoree becomes immediately ineligible and forfeits Chairman's Club recognition. Chairman's Club recognition will subsequently be awarded to an alternate nominee within the respective business unit.

Honoree Allocation The number of honorees representing each business unit is based on headcount within the respective group and the number of nominations received at the close of the nomination period. The business units represented are listed below.

Business Unit Airport Customer Service Cargo Corporate Support Finance Flight Operations In-Flight Service Operations Reservation Sales and Customer Care Sales and Distribution Technical Operations Total: 100 Corporate Support – includes Connection Carriers, Consumer Marketing, Credit Union, Executive, Government and Public Affairs, Human Resources, Legal, Network Planning, Network Scheduling, Partnership Marketing and Revenue Management. Finance – includes Supply Chain Management Operations – includes Airline Operations Reliability, Safety, and Security

Event On Thursday, November 1, we will honor our 2007 honorees and their guests at the Fox Theatre in downtown Atlanta. The event will be hosted by senior leaders and will include a cocktail reception, dinner, awards ceremony and dancing. Selection Committee Chairs and a guest are also invited to attend the event.

Awards Nominees:

• Commemorative lapel pin Honorees:

• Overnight accommodations for the honoree and a guest in Atlanta for the event • 100,000 MyDeltaReward points • Decal bearing their name on the exterior of an aircraft • A unique Chairman’s Club lapel pin • A commemorative photo with our CEO and Chairman of the Board • Photo display for two years on the Chairman’s Club Wall of Honor in the Atlanta

Headquarters Training Center building • Two positive space first class tickets system wide • Chairman’s Club branded business cards

The Nomination Process Every Delta employee has the opportunity to nominate a co-worker (excluding officers and directors and former Chairman’s Club honorees) whose determination and dedication have made a difference in the lives of our customers, our communities, and other Delta employees. All nominations will be accepted online at www.MyDeltaRewards.com beginning July 2, 2007. All nominations must be submitted by 5 p.m. EST on August 12, 2007. Note: Those employees not registered within MDR will not be able to nominate. Employees who are already registered should make sure their profile reflects their most current manager to ensure proper routing of the nominations. Prior to the nomination period, you will be responsible for partnering with your business unit’s communicator to tailor the criteria listed below. Once the criteria are customized to fit the needs of your organization, you’ll be responsible for encouraging nominations and promoting Chairman’s Club. To assist you with encouraging nominations, Employee Recognition will send you a nomination report on a weekly basis. This report will show how many nominations your business unit received for the previous week and from what departments.

5 Criteria Determination Delta is a business, that when faced by enormous challenges, stands ready to respond. Chairman’s Club members:

• Continually look for ways to reduce cost or produce revenue. • Continually search for ways to improve customer service. • Recognize and value the contributions of people from diverse backgrounds. • Seek to enhance our customers’ travel experience. • Enhance the lives of others in the community.

Dedication Delta is a business that is always willing to go the extra mile for our customers, communities and employees. Chairman’s Club members:

• Maintain the highest level of safety and security. • Make customer requirements and expectations a priority. • Embrace change and see it as an opportunity for growth. • Maintain a high level of team enthusiasm and commitment. • Embrace opportunities to demonstrate compassion for people.

Encouraging Nominations When encouraging nominations it is important to communicate the importance of well thought out nominations. Nominations do not necessarily have to be well written, but it is important they include:

• Descriptive examples of determination and dedication; how the nominee: o Looks for ways to save money and/or increase revenue o Improves customer service o Enhances our customers’ travel experience o Maintains the highest level of safety and security o Embraces change o Maintains a high level of enthusiasm o Demonstrates compassion for people o Makes customer requirements/expectations a priority

• Complete sentences or bulleted thoughts • Examples of ongoing determination and dedication, not a one time event. • A clear picture of the employee’s accomplishments

Remember: The most important part of the nomination process is collecting quality nominations that are representative of your division.

Page 6: Chairman’s Club 2007 - c.ymcdn.com · 3 Overview Now in its 11th year, Delta’s Chairman’s Club is designed to be the most prestigious corporate recognition a Delta employee

Nomination Review All nominations should be approved by the nominee’s manager prior to submission to the committee. Nominations that are denied will not be sent to the committee for review. The result is an increase in the amount of quality nominations submitted to the selection committee for review. Nominations should ONLY be denied by the nominee’s manager for the following reasons:

• The nomination was incomplete or false • The employee is on probation • The employee has a final warning letter • The employee is unreliable and/or inconsistently meets job expectations • Performance is within minimal job expectations

All nominations approved by the manager should include the manager’s comments, therefore potentially eliminating the need for your committee to conduct a manager interview. However, if you receive a nomination without the manager’s comments or their comments are minimal, it will be necessary to conduct a manager interview.

Congratulatory Nomination Pins The first time an employee is nominated, Employee Recognition will send a congratulatory pin attached to a pin card to the nominee’s manager. Managers should take this opportunity to present the pin to the employee in an appropriate manner. If any employee is nominated more than once, managers should acknowledge the nominations, but will not receive additional pins for the same employee. Note: If a nomination is denied by the employee’s manager a pin should still be presented. However, these nominations will not be sent to your committee for consideration and the employee will not know if the nomination has been approved or denied.

Selecting a Committee As the Chairperson, you are responsible for selecting committee members. To assist you in selecting a committee, please reference the former honoree, population breakdown, and previous selection committee documents found in the reference section of this binder. We suggest formulating your committee as soon as possible so they can also serve as ambassadors for your business unit during the nomination period.

• Each committee should be comprised of 10 - 12 frontline and management employees • Committee should be representative of your business unit’s composition (management

vs. non-management, type of position, location, specialty areas) • One committee member must be a former Chairman’s Club Honoree

See the reference materials section for a list of former honorees (list only includes active & inactive employees)

• One committee member must have served on a previous selection committee See the reference materials section for a list of previous selection committee members

• Choose individuals who are willing to make the necessary time commitment Time Commitment: Approximately five hours per 200 nominations

• Select individuals who will comply with fair and consistent practices in the selection process

KEEP IN MIND: If a selection committee member is nominated for Chairman’s Club, they have the following choices: 1. They may stay on the committee and forfeit their nomination. 2. They may withdraw from the committee and stay in the running to be selected as a

Chairman’s Club honoree. We recommend selecting your committee as early as possible to allow these individuals time to make necessary decisions.

9

The Selection Process Delta’s organization is broken down into business units. Each business unit is assigned an allotment of the 100 available slots. As previously mentioned, the allotment is determined by headcount, nominations sent and received. Chairman’s Club members are leaders at every level of the business who consistently support Delta’s strategies, visions and values. In addition to job performance, members should be chosen based on how they consistently demonstrate extreme dedication and determination to the highest standards of service to our customers, co-workers, and communities we serve. During the selection process, the committee reviews the nominations and ranks them based on the criteria written by the nominator and the feedback submitted by the manager. The committee will then conduct interviews about the final candidates with peers, customers and managers. Once interviews have been conducted, the committee will make final recommendations of the honorees to represent your business unit. Each committee’s Chairperson will take the business unit’s recommendations to the Core Selection Committee. The Core Selection Committee will make final selections for the 2007 Chairman’s Club no later than October 1, 2007. The selection process is the most crucial time; please keep the following in mind when making your recommendations:

• Discussions of candidates are to remain confidential • Carefully review each nomination with integrity • Honorees display ongoing determination and dedication from the beginning of

their career until the time they are selected (and beyond). Honorees should not be selected based on a one-time event

Before You Begin 1. Make sure each committee member has signed a confidentiality agreement (see form

in the reference materials section of this document). 2. Be sure the committee reviews the selection and eligibility criteria. If corporate

communications tailored the criteria to fit your business unit’s needs, please include this information in your discussion.

3. Establish ground rules for discussions • Discussions about nominees or the selection process are not permitted outside

the committee meetings or interviews • Refrain from sharing personal experiences about nominees • Decisions will be made from the information presented on the nomination forms

and interviews

Page 10: Chairman’s Club 2007 - c.ymcdn.com · 3 Overview Now in its 11th year, Delta’s Chairman’s Club is designed to be the most prestigious corporate recognition a Delta employee

10 4. Remember: THROW NOTHING AWAY!!

The following documents are required from you and your committee: • Selection Committee Worksheet • Confidentiality Agreements • Nominations • Rating sheets • Interview sheets

Nomination Review – Step 1 Objective: Review and rate nominations and select candidates for further interviews. 1. Print and review as a group, each nomination received for your business unit. 2. Rate each nomination using one of the suggested nomination rating worksheets (two

at the end of this document). Apply the criteria questions/categories to the nomination content. Using your preferred form, rate the degree to which the nominee exhibits the criteria example as described by the nominator. Please note - the scale varies by type of form used.

3. Create three piles of nominations: • Nominations with 70-100 points • Nominations with 50-69 points • Nominations below 49 points

4. Tally and review your rating worksheet. Determine how many nominations are in each of the three categories.

5. Select nominations that warrant interviews. Interviews should be conducted on your highest rated individuals (see requirements below). It is all right to have a little more or less than the manageable suggestion. The objective is to select the strongest candidates for interviews.

Number of interviews required: Airport Customer Service 85 Finance 10 Cargo 10 Corporate Support 10 Flight Operations 30 In-Flight Service 60 Operations 10 Reservations Sales and Customer Care 30 Sales and Distribution 10 Technical Operations 35

Page 11: Chairman’s Club 2007 - c.ymcdn.com · 3 Overview Now in its 11th year, Delta’s Chairman’s Club is designed to be the most prestigious corporate recognition a Delta employee

11

The Interviews – Step 2 Objective: Determine candidates whose nominations require interviews. 1. Distribute the candidates for interview evenly among the group. 2. Conduct interviews using the provided interview forms. Interviews must be conducted

on each candidate. A peer, customer and manager interview is required. A customer can be an external or internal client. Important: If solid manager feedback is provided on the nomination form, you are not required to conduct a manager interview. However, if there is not enough information to go on, you must conduct a manager interview.

3. Review each nomination based on the findings from the interview. 4. Rate each interview separately using the same nomination rating worksheet used in

Step 1. 5. Tally and review your nomination rating worksheet. Assign candidates a final score. 6. Place the candidates in order of their scores, from highest to lowest. 7. The candidates with the highest scores are your 2007 honoree recommendations.

Each business unit will recommend 50% more candidates than their slot allotment. (Ex: ACS may have 27 slots, therefore 40 recommendations will be required) A minimum of 5 candidates should be recommended.

Note: Employee Recognition will provide you with the number you need to recommend at the close of the nomination period.

8. Please complete the final recommendations spreadsheet and email your recommendations and alternates to [email protected], Recognition no later than September 21, 2007.

9. Once the final recommendations are received, detailed HR background checks will be performed.

10. The final recommendations will then be reviewed by the Core Selection Committee.

Nomination Date: Employee Id: Nominator Id: Employee Name: Nominator Name: Station/Dept: Manager: Division: ACS

Determination: His daily above and beyond actions cause us in CVG to recognize everything he does. He is a man dedicated to his job as Duty Manager on A Concourse. Through his knowledge, skills, and creative problem solving techniques he has played a huge role in making the partnership between Delta Air Lines and Atlantic Coast Airline the success that it is. He is always friendly, supportive, approachable, and has a very driven attitude toward success. He developed an attitude for success at a very early age. As a child he struggled with a disability that made it almost impossible for him to complete school. However, with high dreams of success he never gave up. He completed school with the courage and perseverance that has made him what he is today. It is a great comfort to all to know in the middle of chaos you have a manager who not only stays with you until the wee hours of the morning but one who never loses his smile. This smile is the glue that holds the A Concourse together.

Dedication: He is such an active part of our work team. He is always loyal to his teams ideas. When he takes on a job it is not done until it is perfect. He is always on the look out for ideas to improve our work environment not only for our customers but to everyone involved. Bob is the Duty Manager who is not afraid to accept challenges, and with his "Whatever it takes philosophy" he handles all problems with what seems like ease. He is very determined to hold people accountable for their actions. He continually motivates others with his positive attitude. At the end of a very challenging evening he does not stop until he knows everyone of his employees is safely in their cars on their way home. He personally takes the extra twenty minutes to drive his agents to the parking lot. This is not in his job description it is just one of the many duties he does to support his team. Since ACA began operating in CVG has been the primary point of contact.

Determination: I would like to nominate her to the Chairman’s Club because she possesses all traits associated with excellence. I have worked with her for six years and she has always maintained a climate of professionalism and understanding. Not only does she support her colleagues but she promotes a climate of motivation and encouragement to all flight attendants in the New York base. She shows a sincere interest in employees and lends support and guidance to help them through difficult situations. She has worked for Delta for twenty-six years and possesses a great deal of experience of the departments she has worked. She understands Delta's business case and motivates others to work efficiently and professionally. Over the years I have watched her work tirelessly and I have seen the wonderful example she is to all who come in contact with her. She is truly an asset to Delta Air Lines and I am honored to work with her!

Dedication: She is knowledgeable of policy and procedure and works to sustain a very high achievement level. She produces measurable results and continuously seeks a high degree of professionalism. 37 Nomination Date: Employee Id: Nominator Id: Employee Name: Nominator Name: Station/Dept: Manager: Division: CRP

Determination: He is one of the hardest working employee's and the most organized. Because he is so organized, his customer service is second to none. Whatever it is you need or ask for, he has it in a folder or e mails it to within the half hour. He gets a lot of walk in traffic, and of course they want it yesterday. He deals with request for corporate identity and the Delta brand. For many months, when the previous employee left with a package, he stepped up to the plate and took on the daunting task of all corporate, communicative and outside request for the Delta brand. This is no small task. The brand hierarchy consist of all different variations of the Delta logo. This in itself is a full time job. In addition, to his graphic work, he is always willing to help in video. He was instrumental in helping us create video graphics for the high profile exercise with Norad. Dedication:

He will do anything and everything to meet a customer's deadline and expectations, even when the client's expectations are not realistic. Time after time, I will see client's show up at the last minute for a presentation for tomorrow with little information or idea on what is necessary to get it done. Time and time, again he will pull a rabbit out of his hat to meet the customer's deadline. You can tell he enjoys his job, and doing the impossible with the unrealistic. He is not afraid to take on the big assignments when most other people would run and hide. He is extremely creative and it shows in his enthusiasm and his commitment to do his best for his client's no matter what. Many of his client's think graphics are like the movies, you just look and it's there. They have no idea how many hours and layers going in to creating a single graphic. He is a unsung resource and he has been instrumental at making Delta look it's very best both internally and externally.
