CHALCOT WEEKLY
Growing a Supportive Community of Active Learners
School Council Election Process
School Council parent nominations closed today at 4.00pm. We have five parent non Department of
Education (DET) nominations: Justine Bailey, Etelka Ronc, Julie Balog, Bec Pellowe, and Andrew Forte.
We also have two parent nominations who are employed by DET: Vanessa Smith and Angie Boustead.
In line with the DET guidelines and the Chalcot Lodge School Council Standing Orders, we are only
permitted to have one parent representative that works for DET on School Council.
We have seven nominations for the
one, 1 year vacancy for Parent Members and
three, 2 year vacancies for Parent Members.
Voting papers will be sent home on Monday 19th February with the youngest child in the family. If you
require a voting paper and did not receive one with your child, please feel free to contact the front office.
Our School Council is constituted to have 12 members, including: six parent members, four Department
of Education (Chalcot Lodge staff) members and two co-opted community members (co-opted members
cannot be DET employees).
The school community is invited to vote for: the one, 1 year vacancy for Parent Member and the three, 2
year vacancy for parent members.
Each voter must complete a ballot paper by placing four ticks next to the names of the candidates
standing for election for whom they wish to vote for.
You must only tick four names for the four positions.
To cast a vote, you must:
place the completed ballot paper in a blank envelope and place the blank envelope in a second
envelope with the your name and address printed on the back of this envelope and post the
envelope to the Principal so as to reach the Principal by 4.00 pm on Thursday 1st March, or
deliver, or arrange delivery of, the completed ballot paper to the school between the hours of
8.15am and 4.00 pm on any school day up to and including Thursday 1st March, and give the
completed ballot paper in a blank envelope to, Jackie Rowntree, Narelle Coyne or Monica Ghirxi.
They will instruct you to print your name and address in the ‘register of voters’.
Votes will be counted by Narelle Coyne and Monica Ghirxi on Friday 2nd March at 9.30am in the
Principal’s office.
Each candidate has the right to appoint a scrutineer to observe the counting of votes. Candidates
need to contact Ms Ghirxi no later than Thursday morning, 1st March (9.00am) if you wish to
have a scrutineer present during the counting of the votes.
The parent voted in 4th will fill the one year vacancy.
Please note that, no campaign literature supporting candidates or groups of candidates may be distributed
or posted in the school and no school resources, whether human or material may be used to support
particular candidates or groups of candidates.

Organising After School Pick Ups
An increasing number of parents have been contacting the office to organise student pick-ups after
school. This is becoming a concern as classes and office staff duties are constantly being interrupted.
Can I please ask all parents to organise student pick-ups with their children before the beginning of the
school day.
If you have parked in a different spot or have changed your meeting point, it is the responsibility of the
parent to collect their children. This may mean that parents will have to meet their children at their
classroom.
If on an occasion you are running late, please do contact the office and we will ensure that the children
are sent to the office to wait to be collected by an adult.
If you cannot collect your children on a regular basis by 3.30pm, please make arrangements with our
afterschool care service.
Badge Presentation Assembly – Friday 23rd February
Our next badge presentation assembly will be held on Friday 23rd February at 2.45pm in the hall.
Badges will be presented to the 2018 ICT Leaders, ICT Editors, Art Monitors, Play Group Leaders,
Sound System Monitors (Xavier Foulton & Jason Lamb) and Junior School Councillors.
Playgroup Leaders
Little Frogs playgroup has been operating at Chalcot Lodge since the beginning of 2016. We have had
Year 5 and 6 students assisting to provide a nurturing, safe and friendly environment for children from
birth to five years old, and their parents, carers and grandparents, to join together to have fun, socialise,
play and meet other people in a supportive environment. Little Frogs provides a welcoming place where
children can learn and develop, and where parents and carers can find new friends and develop a social
network, share experiences and become part of the Chalcot Lodge Primary School community. As the
students who assist in this program play such an important role in the development of these children and
their families, we would like to formally acknowledge their role by making them official leaders of the
school. They will also be presented with their Play Group Leaders badges on Friday 23rd February.

Year 5 Girls - Body Image and Self-Esteem workshop
The session will run on the 8th March for girls in Year 5.
Our society can often focus on beauty and perfection, so the Body Image and Self-Esteem workshop
focuses on encouraging girls about real beauty and individuality, both inside and out. The session gives
practical tips on how girls can feel better about their bodies, understand where their worth comes from,
and have healthy self-esteem.
Anaphylaxis
We have 4 students at our school who have Anaphylaxis. This means that these students suffer allergic
reactions to certain foods and factors in the environment. Their allergic reactions are severe and can be
life threatening. These students have an extreme allergic reaction particularly to nuts and seafood.
I would like to remind parents and students that, as part of the school’s Anaphylaxis Action Plan, under
no circumstances should food be shared or swapped with any other children at school. It is also
very important that children do not purchase food for each other from the canteen. This is a very
serious student safety matter. I am asking all parents to please reinforce this issue with their children at
home.
First Aid
When a child comes into First Aid for minor cuts and grazes, in line with the Department regulations,
their wound is washed with water only and if needed, a bandaid is placed over the wound. Schools are
not allowed to apply any antiseptic cream etc. parents are advised to check at home as to whether any
follow up treatment is necessary. Please note that in the case of serious cuts, grazes or injuries, parents or
emergencies contacts are notified. When these people cannot be notified the school exercises duty of care
and takes appropriate action.
Student Safety
As a school community, we all have a responsibility for the safety of our children. We rely upon
everyone to do the right thing on the roads and in car parks when dropping off and picking up children.
I am writing to all our parents and carers, to implore you to act responsibly on the roads around our
school, when picking up and dropping off children and particularly in the car park near the kindergarten.
I know most parents always do the right thing and we thank you. As a community we must put the safety
of children first.
Visiting the School
If you are visiting the school for any reason, whether it be as a parent helper, dropping off a forgotten
lunch or jumper, you must enter to the school via the front office. The office staff, myself or Paul are
happy to assist you with your inquiry. This is a departmental requirement and our endeavour to minimise
interruptions and disruptions to the school day.
Dogs at School
Just a reminder to our school community that dogs, whether on a lead or not, are not permitted on the
school grounds before, during or after school.
