Challenges of smart school in Malaysia

Introduction

• Smart School is one of the 'flagship' of the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC)

• changes the culture and practices of primary and secondary school. Teaching and learning process change from memory based learning to an education that stimulate thinking and creativity

• This school is not just for smart people but it is a smart way to ensure that each student to achieve its full potential.

• the philosophy of education focus on developing the potential of individuals in a holistic and integrated manner, so as to produce individuals who are intellectually, spiritually, emotionally, and physically balanced and harmonious

Smart school challenge in

Malaysia

a) Lack of infrastructure

• Limit number of computers, LCD and projector

• Teachers compete to one another to use computer lab

• Students share a computer

b) Management of lab computers

• Involve repairing damage computer

• Lack of technician

c) Hardware, software and courseware problem

ii) Software

–Out of date

– Software used in school and KPM is different (cause problem to key in data)

– Software supply by KPM cannot be used by school’s computer.

–Processor take a longer time and slow

d) Lack of skills and knowledge

• Shorter teaching and learning time

• Cause T&L process bored

• Lack of knowledge can cause damage to computer

e) Negative attitude of teachers• a teacher has been blended with traditional

methods and difficult to adapt instructional technology

f) Staff development program (courses)

• Did not involve every staff

• Teachers did not apply the knowledge in T&L process

f) Ethic and law in ICT

• Use a pirate software

• Surf prohibited web

• Use ICT infrastructure for self interest

• Student also may surf for +18 video

CONCLUSION

If the challenges and the weakness of the Smart school can be overcome, then we

develop a generation and work force which prepared to meet the challenges of

the 21st century.
