Camp Boggy Creek was founded in 1996 by Paul Newman and General H. Norman Schwarzkopf, with one simple premise in mind, that every child, no matter their illness, could experience the transformational spirit and friendships that go hand in hand with camp.

With unobtrusive expert medical care, it was their dream that Camp would provide seriously ill children with a fun-filled experience defined by compassion, laughter and acceptance.

Since 1996, Camp Boggy Creek has made it possible for children with serious illnesses to enjoy a camp experience in a safe, medically-sound environment. Located just a short drive from Orlando, Florida, the 232-acre camp serves children ages 7-16 who’ve been diagnosed with chronic or life-threatening

conditions.

Camp Boggy Creek never charges campers to attend and never asks them to contribute anything other than a positive, playful attitude.

As a year-round retreat, Camp Boggy Creek is able to serve thousands for campers and their families through activity-packed weekly and weekend camp programs. The camp offers children the chance to catch their first fish, go horseback riding or climb our ropes tower, all while making new friends.

Beyond boundless fun, Camp Boggy Creek provides fellowship. Children can spend time with others who are just like them and share their life-experiences, which serves as a reminder that they are not alone

Keys to Fundraising Success

Make it Personal: Personalize your fundraising Web page with a picture, story or video.

Follow Up: Most donors will not give until the third time they are asked. Send out multiple emails to friends and family and post to social media regulary.

Share Camp’s Mission: Use stories and pictures from Camp in your outreach to potential donors. Visit the “Champions” section for Camper stories.

Use Your Online Fundraising Tools: Utilize your Web page, participant HQ, email templates & thank-you notes.

Set Clear Goals and Deadlines: Create a plan and stick to it! You will be amazed at how quickly you can achieve your goals!

o For example, if you would like to raise $2,500 by August 15th for Camp (the cost of sending a child to Camp for during a summer session) set a goal to raise half by July 15th, or challenge yourself to asking 10 people for support each week.

Diversify: Use a mix of emails, phone calls, personal letters, notes and social media to reach your goal. The more fundraising ideas you use the better your chances are for success.

Thank Your Donors! Your donors will receive a “Thank You” from Camp Boggy Creek, but don’t stop there. It’s important to send a personal thank you to let them know how much you appreciate their support. This can be in the form of a personal note or email.

How to Ask for Support

Five Easy Steps to Request Support

1. Identify the need you are trying to address. 2. Explain why it is important to you. 3. Share what you are doing about it. 4. Ask your potential supporter to take a specific action. 5. Stop talking!

Give the person your speaking with time to absorb your request and to respond.

An Example of a Face to Face Request for Support

Children coping with serious illness and their family members often feel isolated and alone in their struggle and miss out on the opportunity to experience the fun, friendship, and spirit of childhood. I am cycling 60 miles in the 7th Annual Challenge Ride to help Camp Boggy Creek provide a safe, mecially sound camp experience for thousands of Florida campers and their families, completely free of charge.

Will you help me reach my goal of raising $200 by making a donation today?

About Camp Boggy Creek Camp Boggy Creek is specifically designed for children with chronic or life threatening illnesses and allows them to safely enjoy the activities of a “traditional” camp. Between early morning swims and evening campfires, children whose lives have been a series of medical procedures and hospital stays are transformed into just “kids.” They have a chance to be with others coping with the same illness or condition and realize that they are not alone.

Acres of hope.

"When our son is at Camp Boggy Creek he doesn't have to answer questions about being in a wheelchair. Other kids are eager to play with him and offer their friendship." -Camper Parent

"It's not about the activites, it's about the people. You can be friends with anyone without fear of being judged unfairly. It's more than just a place to have fun." - Andrew, Camper
