Gathering Around the WORD PRELUDE:

GREETINGS & PASSING OF THE PEACE

MINUTE FOR MISSION: Stephen Ministry Leader Training

CALL TO WORSHIP:

LEADER: Those who trust in their riches will wither, but the righteous will flourish like green leaves.

PEOPLE: We gather to praise the Lord, casting our hope in God rather than material things.

LEADER: The greedy bring ruin to their households, but the one who detests bribes will live.

PEOPLE: God is generous to us, abounding in steadfast love. We turn away from greed towards God!

LEADER: A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.

PEOPLE: In worship we exalt the good name of God and our Savior Jesus Christ.

▲ HYMN OF PRAISE #26: “EARTH AND ALL STARS”

▲ Confessing Our Sin LEADER: In worship we sing to God a new song, and now we turn to God in prayer confessing our sins:

PEOPLE: Gracious God, you are an abundant giver. You create life, set the planets in motion, and

provide for us the rhythms of creation to experience your power. Forgive us for all the ways

we ignore your creative power and abuse your creation. Through Jesus Christ, you give your

very self to the world. Christ lived to show us how to love and died at the hands of sinful

people. You raised Jesus to new life for us. Lord, have mercy on us for all the ways we

misunderstand Jesus and his saving love. With the Holy Spirit, you give hope, wisdom, and

peace. Lord, have mercy for all the ways we miss the Spirit’s work. Remove the burden or

our sins and grant us the generous gift of forgiveness. Amen. ~ Silent Prayers ~

▲ HYMN OF GRATITUDE: #582 “GLORY TO GOD, WHOSE GOODNESS SHINES ON ME”

▲ ASSURANCE OF PARDON:

LEADER: God’s mercy is from everlasting, a generous gift of grace for all who genuinely seek it.

PEOPLE: We seek the healing power of God’s grace and thank God for it today.

LEADER: Friends, believe the good news of the gospel: in Jesus Christ our sins are forgiven!

PEOPLE: Glory to God our Creator. Glory to Jesus our Redeemer. Glory to the Spirit our Sustainer!

TIME WITH YOUNG DISCIPLES:

PRAYER: God the Father bless us. God the Son help us. God the Spirit keep us, now and evermore.

Children in Kindergarten-3rd Grade are invited to participate in Children’s Church

following the Time with Young Disciples at 11a.m.

Rev. Julie Jensen

▲ HYMN OF PREPARATION: #826 “LIFT HIGH THE CROSS”

SERMON: “Do You Have Pleonexia?”

“Take care! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; for one’s life does not consist in

the abundance of possessions” (Luke 12:15).

▲ AFFIRMATION OF FAITH: (from the Heidelberg Catechism)

Q. 1. What is your only comfort, in life and in death?

A. That I belong – body and soul, in life and in death – not to myself but to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ, who at the cost of his own blood has fully paid for all my sins and has completely freed me from the dominion of the devil; that he protects me so well that without the will of my Father in heaven not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, that everything must fit his purpose for my salvation. Therefore, by his Holy Spirit, he also assures me of eternal life, and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for him.

Responding to the Word
