Wave Lengths Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body or what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Matthew 6:25 As the story goes, Chicken Little was hit on the head by a brick. She did not know where the brick came from and so came to her own conclusions. “The sky is falling. It has landed on my head.” I don’t remember if Chicken Little was so named because of her small stature or because of her limited view of the world. Regardless of how she earned her name, she managed to get a great number of friends and strangers to listen to her story and take up her chant – “The sky is falling! Beware!” When our world changes – due to health, a move, family members coming and going, pastors coming and going, we tend to become car carrying members of Chicken Little’s “The Sky is Falling” movement. We fret. We worry. We talk with others – which is great - but too often we talk even though we don’t have all the facts so we share “facts” that are very far from the truth. What we really accomplish, and with great effectiveness, is a sharing of our fears and our disappointments, all the while getting others to at least commiserate with us, or hopefully, join us in our paranoia. Whether in our personal lives, the lives of our local faith community, or the life of the greater church, we all need to remember to pray and think. We need to remember to gather facts and not factoids, before we speak or react. And above all, we must remember to trust God. Trust that all will work out for the best as we are well prepared to move forward in faith, knowing we are living as fully into who God has called us to be. So rather than bemoaning, “the sky is falling!” let us look up and give thanks that God is with us and is taking care of us. And let us join together in prayer so we are all remembering to listen to God, above all. See you in church. Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body or what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and

the body more than clothing? Matthew 6:25

As the story goes, Chicken Little was hit on the head by a brick. Beware!”

When our world changes – due to health, a move, family members coming and going, pastors coming and going, we tend to become car carrying members of Chicken Little’s “The Sky is Falling” movement. We fret.

Shalom,

Pastor Paula
