An Einherji Goes to WarAcrylic Paints on Illustration Board

Painted for the show “Underworlds and Afterlives” with Rain City Illustra-tion. It is painted in acrylic wash, and depicts a member of the Einherjar (Norsemen who have died on the field of battle and been resurrected by Valkyries) as a child, dressed in ‘kitchen armour’ of pots and pans. He is

being pulled aloft by Odin’s ravens, Huginn and Muninn, or Thought and Memory.

I happened to be at a playground and saw children playing a ‘war game’, which led to me think about the cyclical nature of conflict. Combat is

glorified, glamorized, condemned and regretted, but it is never far. It is a part of our evolution, but also a threat to it. Thought and Memory are the

only things that can truly bear us away from the game. Of course, Einherjar continue to do battle, even long after their death. They are the reserve troops of the apocalypse, and will only pass into death when the new world dawns,

upon which they have no place.

Monstropolis BC Place Animation Project

BC Place asked for student films to be submitted for their theme of

‘Nature and the City’, to be shown on the Jumbotron Downtown (currently an ongoing contest). This piece was made using stop-motion, flash, and

hand-drawing techniques.

Sleipnir Animation Messy #1

This piece was produced over one week as an assignment on metamorphosis with plastercine. It was meant to be ‘messy’ as a way to get used to the program and station. It is not a perfect

piece, but despite some technical flaws it demonstrates my passion for stopmotion even during a first foray into it. Also

included is concept art.

Flash Puppet Project

In the line of the silhouette films of Lotte Reiniger, we were asked to create a film with Adobe Flash

Puppets. Each piece was put together with a skele-ton and manipulated with the puppet tool, but this method proved difficult to control. Instead, each part of the puppet was keyframed individually.

My Master's VOiceAcrylic Paints on Illustration Board witvh Digital The project called for a Grotesque style of art that simulatenous parodied a famous painting and critiqued some aspect of consumption in society. I chose "His Master's Voice" to describe excessive media consumption.

Acrylic paint wash was brought into Adobe Photoshop to add background and fine-tune colours. Included are the original acrylics.

Sketchbook

A collection of personal conceptual sketches in pencil, ink and photoshop as well as small process for an early

digital piece. These images represent my fascination with the animal forms in relation to human ones, as

well as some inspired by myths and legends from various cultures. Some of these sketches were

developped into full illustrations, but I believe these earlier stages show how I brainstorm and conceive.
