1 GENERAL DESCRIPTION

1-1 AREA OF OPERATION

The equipment is designed to be used in an airport traffic area for towing and pushing back airplanes. Any other use is considered to be excluded, as is use in an explosive atmosphere or use on any other surface than concrete or asphalt. The maximum operating slope is: 1.5° (2.5%) by default. When the operating wind speed is above 75km/h (40 knots) additional operating precautions have to be determined by each operator based on the analysis of local conditions including a good knowledge of the effects of the wind direction. These precautions shall be the subject of training dispensed to all equipment operators at the airport concerned. Only to be used for the loads it is designed for. The standard temperatures for use are - 20°C to + 45°C (-4°F to +113°F). Do not manoeuvre inside an airplane’s fire safety perimeter while it is being fuelled. Prope

OPERATING LEVER

RIGHT FLASHING INDICATOR

Move the lever downwards to turn on the right flashing indicator .

The indicator light flashes along with the front and rear direction indicators.

Place the lever in the central position to turn off the indicators.

LEFT FLASHING INDICATOR

Move the lever upwards to turn on the left flashing indicator .

The indicator light flashes along with the front and rear direction indicators.

Place the lever in the central position to turn off the indicators.

DIPPED HEADLAMPS

Turn the lever counterclockwise to the second position .

The indicator light turns on .

MAIN BEAM HEADLAMPS

When dipped beam is on, just push the lever away from you to turn on the main beam.

The indicator light turns on .

Pull the lever back towards you to return to dipped beam.

HEADLIGHT FLASH

Pull the lever towards you .

The main beam headlamps come on.

Release the lever to turn them off again.

HORN

Press the steering wheel center or the end of the lever in .

The horn sounds. It stops when the lever is released.

2 USAGE

2-1 WARNING

CHECK BEFORE STARTING

Perform a check before starting up following the instructions for the daily inspection, see “Maintenance manual”.

DANGERS AND RISKS RELATED TO USAGE

CAUTION: ALWAYS DRIVE WITH DOORS CLOSED.

ACCESS AND TAKING CONTROL

CAUTION: COMPLY WITH THE MAXIMUM LOAD IN THE CAB. THE MAXIMUM WEIGHT IS SHOWN BY A LABEL.

CAUTION: THE CAB IS DESIGNED FOR TWO PEOPLE, THE DRIVER AND THE PASSENGER.

USING THE VEHICLE AT LOW TEMPERATURES

NOTE: if using at low temperatures, the hydraulic oil is less fluid and can trigger the clogging indicators. Remove ice from windscreen and lights. Drive for five minutes to heat up the oil before doing any work with an aircraft. Use the brakes several times while driving 100 meters to ensure they are not frozen. NOTE: if the clogging indicators remain on after these manoeuvres, the vehicle may have a problem not related to the usage temperature.

2-3 STARTING THE VEHICLE Set the battery switch to "ON".

NOTE: the emergency stop must not be engaged. Adjust the rear view mirrors. Adjust the seat according to your weight and height. Put on the seatbelt. Turn the ignition switch to the right in position 1 "Ignition" to turn on the ignition.

The preheating indicator turns on.

Leave the ignition switch in position 1 until the preheater lights off . Turn the ignition switch to position 2 "Start" to start the engine. NOTE: if the vehicle does not start first time, return to position "(0) STOP" and wait about 10 seconds before restarting the procedure. Release the ignition switch.

It automatically returns to position (1).

2-4 USING THE VEHICLE

DRIVING THE VEHICLE

WARNING : DURING OPERATION BE HELPED TO IMPROVE VISIBILITY BEHIND THE TRACTOR.

Depress the service brake. Release the parking brake (see 2-6 page 19). Select a gear and a direction of travel (see below). Accelerate. Drive.

SELECTING A GEAR

Pull the lever towards you and push for reverse or back for forward. Turn for select the gear ratio to engage.

By default the engaged gear displays on the gearbox display.

2-5 PUSHING OR PULLING AN AIRCRAFT

CAUTION: FOR THE PUSHING OR PULLING OPERATION, REFER TO THE PROCEDURES AND REGULATIONS APPLICABLE TO THE AIRCRAFT IN QUESTION.

CAUTION: WHEN PUSHING, AVOID CHANGING GEAR TO LIMIT SHOCKS CAUSED BY CHANGING FROM ONE GEAR TO ANOTHER.

CAUTION: THE BAR HOOKING AND UNHOOKING OPERATION REQUIRES THE PRESENCE OF TWO OPERATORS.

CAUTION: WHEN PULLING ON A SLOPE, THE BRAKING DISTANCE IS INCREASED CONSIDERABLY. ADAPT YOUR SPEED IN ORDER TO COMPLY WITH THE STOPPING DISTANCES.

CAUTION : WHEN PUSHING OR PULLING AN AIRCRAFT, DO NOT USE AUTOMATIC MODE OF THE GEARBOX. THE RISK IS DAMAGE THE GEARBOX.

HYDRAULIC COUPLING OPTION. CAUTION: AN INTERRUPTION IN THE POWER SUPPLY (MALFUNCTION OR ENGINE CUTTING OUT) AUTOMATICALLY CAUSES THE COUPLING PIN TO DROP. DO NOT PUT YOUR HAND UNDER THE COUPLING PIN. A PICTOGRAM HIGHLIGHTS THIS HAZARD.

Move the tractor to the pin with the gear selector in 4th gear. Turn the safety lock to raise the pin.

Line up the tractor with the bar. Draw the tractor up to the bar so as to centre it. Check the bar is centred relative to the coupling. Release the pin (release the pin or release the pushbutton for the hydraulic coupling).

Select the gear needed to pull or push the aircraft using the table provided in the cab and reproduced below.

2-6 USING THE PARKING BRAKE.

CAUTION: THE PARKING BRAKE MUST ONLY BE USED WHEN THE TRACTOR IS STOPPED.

Push down the parking brake switch to release the parking brake.

NOTE: While the parking brake is applied, the engine may be accelerated unladen but movement of the tractor is disabled and the gearbox remains in neutral.

2-7 USING THE PARKING BRAKE SAFETY OVERRIDE BUTTON.

CAUTION : ONLY USE THIS FUNCTION ON A SHORT DISTANCE. IF NOT, YOU COULD CAUSE DAMAGE ON THE AXLE.

This function allows you to have all gears available and disengage the tractor, even if the parking brake is on. Open the protective cover.

Push on the « Parking brake safety override » pushbutton and at the same time, select a direction mode to disengage the tractor.

NOTE : Translation is allowed instead of the parking brake fault, but the parking brake stays on.

The parking brake indicator lights off .

2-8 STOPPING THE VEHICLE Put the gear selector in neutral position. Apply the parking brake. Stop any active equipment. Turn the ignition switch to the “0-STOP” position. Place the battery switch in the "Off" position.

2-9 EMERGENCY STOP

CAUTION: THE EMERGENCY STOP MUST ONLY BE USED IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION AND IS NOT THE NORMAL PROCEDURE TO BE USED FOR STOPPING THE VEHICLE.

2-10 ENGINE SHUT DOWN ON FUEL LEVEL

Sequence:

Alarm light turns on when fuel level is 1/4 of the tank. Engine shut down when fuel level is 1/8 of the tank. When engine shuts down, buzzer turns ON. The driver can restart the engine for 20 seconds max before engine shutting down again

and so on. No buzzer during those 20 seconds. For maintenance people, a momentary button will permit to be able to avoid shutdown. No

buzzer when switch is depressed. As soon as button is released, the engine shuts down.

2-11 CENTRALIZED LUBRICATION

The centralized lubrication system automatically supplies all lubricating points with grease. It can be automatic (option) and thus totally autonomous. The lubrication periods and times can be adjusted by using the control switch located on the pump and reading the display. The display also shows any errors. The control switch can also be used to start a lubrication cycle. The dashboard indicator on the dashboard display lights on when the centralized

lubrication works . NOTE : for more information, refer to the section on "centralized lubrication" in chapter 5.

2-12 RADIO COMMUNICATION SOCKET These sockets are used to connect a headset for communication between the aircraft cockpit and the tractor. They are on the front or the rear driving position according option.

2-13 EMERGENCY PUMP In case of engine failure, the emergency pump allows you to use hydraulic functions such as steering, hitch. Switch contact on. Activate the emergency pump by switch on the button on dashboard. NOTE : Autonomy is about 20 to 30 minutes according to usage.

4 SHIPPING, TRANSPORTING, HANDLING PREPARATION

Store the manual in its box. Place a desiccating bag in the electrical cabinets. Fill the fuel tank to a quarter of its capacity. Cut the power supply with the battery switch. Close and lock the covers. Stow all moveable parts.

TRANSPORTING

Apply the parking brake. To protect the vehicle from corrosion during transport, it is possible to apply a temporary coating of the paraffin wax type. Take care not to cover optical sensors. Lock the doors. Isolate the electrical circuit using the battery isolator.

CAUTION: DO NOT PUT CHAINS ON THE AXLES OR THE TRACTOR ITSELF.

ACCEPTANCE

Carry out the maintenance check according to the daily inspection in section 2. Check the tyre pressures. Refit any parts removed for transportation. Remove the temporary protection on arrival with an approved solvent.

5 STORAGE CAUTION: STORE THE EQUIPMENT IN A CLOSED AREA AWAY FROM SUNLIGHT, DUST OR SAND, RAIN AND CORROSIVE ATMOSPHERES (SALINE, ETC.).

CAUTION: CARRY OUT A FULL MAINTENANCE OPERATION EQUIVALENT TO THE STORAGE PERIOD IF THIS IS GREATER THAN 6 MONTHS. REFER TO CHAPTER 2, MAINTENANCE TABLE.

5-1 STORING ELECTRICAL PARTS Disconnect the electrical supply. Disconnect the battery. Place desiccating bags in the electrical cabinet. Close and lock the electrical cabinet. Battery: If the batteries need to be out of service for a long period, they must be stored fully charged in a dry area away from frost. In order to guarantee that the batteries are always ready for use, charge them every month and check/top-up the electrolyte level. Every 3 months, check that there is no corrosion on the electrical connections and renew the desiccant sachets if necessary. At the end of the storage period, remove the desiccant sachets and check the tightness of the electrical connections.

5-2 STORING MECHANICAL PARTS Completely clean the outside of the equipment. Non-painted surfaces must be protected with grease (brushed on), unlike the anti-corrosion products used for metal parts. Check for the absence of corrosion every three months. If corrosion appears, clean and renew the protection immediately.

5-3 PROTECTING HYDRAULIC CIRCUITS Completely clean the outside of the hydraulic reservoir, the hydraulic components and the pipework. Repair any hydraulic fluid leaks if necessary. Check the sealing of the hydraulic reservoir. Protect all hydraulic components (pumps, units, pipes, flanges, hoses and fittings) using a special product. Drain and replace the stored oil in the tank, pumps and motors every year. Check for the absence of corrosion in the hydraulic components every three months. Clean and use a protective product (anti-corrosion or grease-impregnated packing bands) on outside metallic parts. At the end of the storage period: Drain, clean and refill the hydraulic reservoir with clean new hydraulic oil. Replace the filter elements of all hydraulic filters. After 50 hours of use, check the filters for blockage. Check the sealing of the components after start-up.
