Political Parties Emerge
• Major decisions faced the new government, but key officials had different ___________on how to make them
• Because of this 2 political parties emerged– Alexander Hamilton and followers believed a strong
government should be active in encouraging the growth of cities, trade, and factories. Known as the Federalists
– Thomas Jefferson and followers believed the nation should remain a land of small farmers and skilled craft workers. Known as the Democratic-Republicans.
