Basic Ankle Taping

Spray the area to be taped thoroughly with spray adherent.

Place a heel pad on the back of the foot and a lace pad on top of the foot.

Apply underwrap to the entire area to be taped, using equal tension and avoiding wrinkles.

Apply two anchor strips at the top of the ankle and a lower anchor strip to the mid-foot area of the instep.

Apply three stirrups to the outside of the ankle, beginning on the medial side.

Apply three additional stirrups extending to the heel and secured on the lateral side.

Apply cover strips down the ankle over the entire length of the ankle.

Cover the bottom of the foot with cover strips.

Apply a figure eight beginning on the medial side of the ankle.

Gently compress the taped ankle to ensure complete adhesive adherence.

Wrist Taping (cont.)

Wrap the wrist with an underwrap. Apply cover or compression strips

beginning 3 to 4 inches proximal to the wrist.

Wrist Taping (cont.)

Apply an anchor strip through the palm area, pinching it at the thumb to avoid pressure at the thumb joint.

Apply another set of compression strips covering the ends of the anchor strip.

Elbow Taping

This procedure helps prevent hyperextension of the elbow.

Shave skin if necessary, then apply underwrap and spray adherent. Adherent should be applied 2 inches above and below the wrap.

With the arm partially flexed, apply an anchor strip above and below the underwrap.

Elbow Taping (cont.)

Cut down the middle of Elastikon or similar tape to create two anchor strips. Wrap them around the arm over the initial anchor.

Repeat the cutting and anchoring of the Elastikon for the bottom of the tape.

Apply cover strips at the top and bottom elastic anchor strips.
