Including his family.La Justica, El Globo, El Republica, & El Resumen- a Madrid newspaper which sympathized with the Filipino cause, said: To cover the ear, open the purse, and fold the armsthis is the Spanish colonial policy.La Epoca- an anti-Filipino newspaper in Madrid.M.H. Del Pilar- acted as his lawyer. Dr. Dominador Gomez- as his secretary. Senor Fabie- minister of colonies. Gen Valeriano Weyler- committed injustices against the Calamba folks

Rizal immediately sought help to the filipino colony

Silvestre Ubaldo- Brother in law, he receive a copy of ejectment order by the Dominicans against Francisco Rizal and Calamba tenants.Sister Saturnina- he learned of the deportation of Paciano(Rizal), Antonio (Lopez), Silvestre (Ubaldo), Teong (Mateo Elejorde) and Dandoy (Dr. Jose Rizals relative) to Mindoro. These unfortunate deportees were arrested in Calamba and were shipped out of Manila on September 6, 1890.

He also learned that their parents had been forcibly ejected from their home and were then living in the house of Narcisa (Antonio's Wife) A futile fight for justice

Jose Ma. Panganiban- Rizals talented co-worker in the Propaganda Movement, died in Barcelona on august 19, 1890, after a lingering illness. He deeply mourned the passing of this Bicol hero.Panganiban , the Excellent companion of labor and difficulty, that amiable friend and countryman beloved, has just described to the tomb at the earl age of 27 yrs/o.We just caught his last whisper, saw him expire in our arms, as it were and it seems as we are listening to his phrases saturated with the energetic patiotism, inspired by the purest love of his native land.August 19,1890- a fatal coincidence on the same month and day of the year another one friend and countryman died also- Feliciano Gonzales Timbang.

Rizal Challenges Retana to Duel

Asserting that the family & friends of Rizal had not paid their rents so that they were rejected from their lands in Calamba by the Dominicans. Such an insult stirred Rizal to action, Immediately, he sent his seconds to Retana with his challenge to a duel. Only Retana's blood or his apology could vindicate the good name of Rizals family and friends.Because he believed that discretion is the better part of valor, & more to save his own skin, Retana published a retraction and an apology in the newspapers. His seconds had warned him that he had no chance whatsoever against Rizal on field of honor for Rizal was his superior in both pistol & sword.
