Colonial assemblies rejected plan.• Each colony tried to
fix their own problems.
Battle of Fort Duquesne 2 years after first
Indian attack Critics General Braddock attacked French Fort Duquesne• In Pittsburg, PA
North Carolina sent troops to help.
Boone and George Washington
Attack was a disaster
French raced toward them with weapons
Indians shot from the hills.
More than half the English were killed
British General Braddock was killed.
Boone and others ran for the woods in a retreat.
Cherokee Dilemma Conflict Spread to
Europe. Started the 7 years
War Cherokee had to
side with either French or British because of gun dependence.
Chose the British, but alliance was weak
Some Cherokee killed and ate cows in Virginia
British killed several Warriors and sold their scalps.
Other Warriors attacked and killed settlers in S. Carolina.
British demanded Warriors be turned over.
Group of Cherokee leaders came to talk, but British put them in prison.
Cherokee grew angry and attacked British
British killed all Cherokee Prisoners
Cherokee switched sides to the French
Went and got French guns and ammunition then went back and attacked the fort. British went back to Charles Town
Cherokee launched attacks on N Carolina Settlements.
Pitts Plan Pitt was Britain’s
Sec. of State 20,000 soldiers
from England, colonies raised another 30,000.
Pushed Cherokee and French further West.
Wanted to get rid of French.
Proclamation of 1673 British, French
and Spanish Colonist could
not settle west of the Appalachian Mts.• Those living west
had to move east• Most colonist
stayed.
